The annual Saimoe tournament to determine the “most moe” girl of the year has concluded, with a certain magical puella trouncing the opposition.
The tournament’s results, displaying a more than slight bias in favour of Shaft’s magnum opus:

Mami won last year. And the main rule for Saimoe is NO REPEAT CHAMPIONS.
That was 2011. Toki Onjouji from Saki won last year.
Saki went full retard last year, expecting the same next year too...

We've had some pretty close calls, though. 2005 champion Nanoha got up to the quarter-finals in 2007 and came pretty close to beating Rika, that year's eventual champion. Incidentally, Mami also reached the quarter-finals this year (and in an ironic twist, she got there by beating last year's champion Toki in the block finals), though there was more of a vote margin between her and Sayaka than there was Nanoha and Rika (I suppose the main thing working against her was the split vote, with both characters being from the same series).

As far as I know, seegings are completely randomized, so although extremely unlikely, you could get a bracket where all contestants are from the same show.
It has happened several times over the years that two popular characters from some popular show have had to face off during the first round.
Aye, HomuHomu was unlucky. The Homura fans no doubt decided to tactical vote to ensure Madoka made it through, or at least have a high enough vote count to qualify for the "loser's bracket", since SaiMoe is now a double-elimination tournament.
It is from this "loser's bracket" that Madoka staged her comeback.
Well, the change of her character to an evil egoist wasn't the best choise in the last movie.

It's just some fan art predicting the winners of the contest. The illustrator is a comparatively well-known fan artist specializing in bondage, so that explains the theme.
Now why Artefact chose that pic instead of something more relevant is anyone's guess. Judging from the beginning years of this site I'd say he has a thing for BDSM.

Jinrui wa Suitaishimashita is such an underrated show... Some episodes were weird, but most were superb.
Heck, even the weird episodes were awesome! I'd really like a second season but I kinda doubt it'll happen... Even if they did change the reverse chronological order.

Another massively underrated anime is "Kamisama No Nichiyoubi", even though it has an amazing storyline and beautiful music, not to mention the visuals to keep up with the rest, I barely ever hear anyone talking about it, I'm sad because of that really.
At first I thought it was going to be boring, from what little info I could find of it, but after my friend forced me to watch the first episode, I was hooked, this anime was AMAZING and I felt like kicking myself for even thinking about not watching it. (IMO, it's worlds better than Attack On Titan, or any other anime on this list)

I had to rub my eyes to make sure I'm seeing straight...
don't see why you're so bothered by K-ON!'s presence in Saimoe. It's not like they did particularly great last year; hell, after they won the championship in 2010, it was all downhill for them. With the exception of Mio (whom, up until that point, did surprisingly poorly in Saimoe despite her seemingly being one of the most popular K-ON! girls), none of them made it past round 2 last year (Mio went down in round 3). And we mustn't forget 2011, where every single one of them got taken out in the first round, including the former champ.
anyway, I'm personally more relieved that the Kugimiya fanbase is pretty much dead in the water now. With the exceptions of Hayate's Nagisa and Idol M@ster's Iori (both of whom lost in the first round, with Nagisa not even breaking 100 votes), her most popular characters' series have now ended, and nobody in their right mind seems interested in making a season 2 of Hidan no Aria (rightfully so).
Man, I'll never forget how Shana lost in the first round to Yuuko, the busty chick from A-Channel (must've been a real kick in the balls to DFC-backers). XD

I still don't know what MOE is but from how this site reacts to the stuff, it must be really bad.
It is only if you get obsessed with it, which, when you think about it, is pretty much the same case of any anime genre...
Maybe the difference is that this particular genre, due to its growing popularity and RIDICULOUS amounts of work produced on the moe genre, has more obsessed fans than most other genres. I am speculating, though; I only know it to be the case in Japan, but I cannot speak for the rest of the world for sure.
And about this site's reactions to it... Worry not: most people here are either crazed moeblob fans (I believe the site's owner falls into this category) or moe haters (refer to "hipsters"), so you will never see an unbiased reaction. It will always lean to one of those two sides heavily.
... I'm apparently gonna need to revise my "moe" definition.. because there was nothing "moe" to me in Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
