Xbox One “Bricked On Day 1”

Xbox-One-bricked-after-update-with-E100-error-code

No sooner has Microsoft’s Xbox One been unleashed on the handful of territories worthy of its power than it has been subject to a variety of horrible technical issues, although whether they are any more widespread than those afflicting the PS4 is another matter.

Complaints about a “disc-read error” and a supposed system update failure capable of bricking the console have surfaced – though just how common these are in relation to the number of consoles shipped is completely unknown (and doubtless likely to remain so, given Microsoft’s PR lessons):

Everybody who has ever disassembled an optical disc drive knows they are full of moving parts made of plastic, so it's hardly surprising they break easily. What's surprising, though, is that these consoles apparently don't get tested before they are packed into the cardboard boxes and shipped to the stores. I mean, there's no way a broken optical drive would pass any quality assurance test, no matter how superficial. Given the extreme cost optimization and production numbers I'd understand a bit more complicated flaws, though.

Testing every single one is costly. Sample testing from manufactured batch is more efficient.

Maybe they didn't sample test at all. Remember they are Made in China. Quality Check is non existent over there and it's a miracle in itself they haven't exploded yet!

Not just that they were made in China, they were made in extreme hurry! Double fault there.

They do. However, not everything can be tested, and many more consoles break during transportation.

this is a closed beta test period for X-Box One and PS4, so of course there's some problem with it. isn't thats the reason why u get it earlier than the other, to find the error so the rest of other player can play it error-free?

oh well, im a PC user myself, who am i to complain...

when the wii u was launched and had to do the day one patch, it was reported it could brick your system instead of updating it.

If the user is stupid enough to turn it off when it is updating so be it.

    Comment by Anonymous
    23:37 23/11/2013 # ! Neutral (0)

Yes but it would perform the update in the background even if you told it to update later. So it would start updating without you knowing, and then when people turned it off it would brick. So that's 100% Nintendo's fault for putting it as "Download Later" and not "Background Download".

They wouldn't even know it was updating. The "Download later" option cancelled any kind of notification the system would give otherwise.

I suppose it's not entirely fair to compare against current-gen consoles with disc drives and a ton of other parts and features, but... my and my brother's SNES worked perfectly back on Thanksgiving 1991, and with virtually no faults for at least 10 years after that. It'd probably still work today if I could dig it out, though I currently use a 2nd-version SNES that I bought in 1999 when I went to college.

I still have a SNES that's 18 years old right now and works like a charm.

Hell, even my NES works (not as well, but it works) after replacing ONE single piece...

I'll wait for a few months before getting the PS4, thank you very much.

Product quality is inversely proportional to consumer responsibility. Sony and Microsoft have incentive to make your hardware last exactly as long as your warranty. It's funny how corporations feared public outrage so much more in the age before the Internet.

They have no trouble in making us aware of the next version, and if they get 5% unsatisfied customers, who cares! It wasn't thet easy when they relied more on world of mouth.

The fact that people can now equate "launch" with "horrible console-bricking errors" is the entire problem.

Not that guy, but when a pc fuck up, 90% of the time it's the user/builder fault, and likewise 90% of the time you can fix it by yourself with a few online tutorial, which is a step up from being at the mercy of a multinational company who's more interested in keeping it's fuck up secret than providing adequate customer support.

I put together a dozen parts to build my PC, all from different manufacturers and none of them designed to ONLY be compatible with each other, yet my gaming rig works perfectly; Sony and Microsoft need to stop making excuses.

see the thing is most people who are the PC race are around 50-80% Steam players and im pretty sure most of them will jump on the steam console when it comes out, so now you need to state if you are steam or actually pc player

That Steam "console" is just a PC. A completely normal PC. It's like saying "Dell console".

I can't believe people still din't understand what a Steam Machine is.

Unfortunately, these problems can also be related to PC...
When I first built this PC, I had multiple problems, while things "worked" according to every tests I had done, it kept crashing after a while, nothing was overclocked, turns out the RAM was defective, even though memtest never caught it after over 90 hours of testing it.

Shit happens, many of these problems, like the disc drive eating up the disc could probably be attributed to when the consoles were shipped, due to low end materials used something inside broke easily during shipping and this happens...

You can easily fix a PC on your own though. A console you gotta send somewhere on warranty.

Besides, consoles are supposed to work error-free out of the box. For a long time.
    That's the point of consoles.
You buy them because you're a casual and don't want to bother with the same problems you'd have on a PC. Such as viruses, hardware errors, software errors, all that stuff.

Console = boot up anytime, play games instantly. You should NEVER have to worry about your hardware breaking within the 1st week. That wasn't the case with any console ever until 360 came out and now it's only getting worse.
