Notoriously anime-friendly convenience store chain Lawson has launched what looks to be Japan’s first widely distributed line of anime-themed booze, boasting art by no less than Miku originator Kei.
What Beaujolais Nouveau 2013 boasts in classy naming and art it more than makes up for in cheap swill pricing of ¥1380 and a delightful 500ml PET bottle, however.

Oh well, at least it's not Apple launching the brand new iCider.
PET bottle for a wine? You've got to be kidding me.
Well, Beaujolais Nouveau can not exactly be called "wine", so...
yes... more like "grape juice spiked with antifreeze"
It's just wine, not all wine is to made drink with pinky up.
It's the kind of wine people drink without even removing the bottle from the sack.
absolutely right. there are wine that are supposed to be chugged down straight from the bottle!! so we call those sake :p
It's cheap wine so the shorter shelf life doesn't propably matter that much... Most likely it's also some kind of limited time offer and deshelved within a few months anyways.
Some cheap wines are packed in plastic bottles here too, simply because they're cheap and expected to sell faster... All the bums will empty the shelves from all the cheap stuff each month after they get their welfare checks.
Are you one of those bums? You seem to know a lot about this.
Doesnt surprise me. Ever see wine in a box?
Yep. And it costs less than 1/10 of that. Shit, for 14 euros you can find really good wines in France, Spain, Italy, Greece... In a glass bottle (and 0.7 litres instead of 0.5) with a corck bung.
In the US you can get a liter of the cheap stuff for like $8 though it still comes in a glass bottle.
Beaujolais Nouveau is a kind of festival. It is valuable just because it is valuable for wine lovers and someone pretending to be wine lovers of the upper classes. I don't mean to complaine about that. It's okay. But I, as Joe Average, can be happy with much cheaper wine from local wineries and import shops.
I'd like to "cork" your bung...
I'm not familiar with "PET bottles" so what is the problem? Other than the fact that it looks to be plastic... which might be infact the case.
Oh and a quick google search answered it all for me. I assumed PET was a brand or something.
"PET allows more oxygen ingress than glass, and thus the wine has a shorter shelf-life, losing freshness more quickly."
"A study has found that wine stored in polyethylene bottles starts to oxidise within six months."
mhm
Get me another bottle.
You're right. But who wants to keep Beaujolais Nouveau longer than a week?
A little currency conversion shows these are $10-$15 Canadian. For that price, I can get a 750ml British Columbia or California wine that probably won't taste like antifreeze filtered through campfire ashes.
I'll buy one.
If anyone who lives in Japan can get me one in perfect condition, I'd so buy it from them!
So, if you drink this wine will you sound like a Vocaloid?
No, no more. Miku and Lily's illustrations are now drawn by different people, and new boxarts for Luka and twins are on its way, to be expected this year.
I can see these cheap swills flying off the shelves by hoards of otakus, so they can have drink with their favorite 2D character!
Is it like thunderbird?
No wonder that random pink-haired anime girl looked like Miku at a glance.
I was interested until I saw it was wine.
When they upgrade to whiskeys, let me know.
I'd buy it if instead of wine it was vodka.
Wine...enjoy your rotten juice.
Merci, we'll have some rotten milk with that too.
So very true.
as long as it gets the job done...
That's just grape juice right? right?! wine in PET bottle... I agree, ridiculous !
"I'll have what she's having."
