PS4 Faces BLODy Hell

Sony may well be facing its own Microsoft moment after increasing numbers of reports of the PS4 failing with a “blue light of death” (fast becoming known as the dangerously pronounceable “BLOD”) for unknown reasons…
Almost completely unsubstantiated rumours speak of disgruntled Foxconn employees sabotaging consoles, but all that is definitively known is that the sight of dead PS4s makes for popular viewing on YouTube, and plenty of acerbic reviews on Amazon:
How widespread the problem is, how well the launch consoles hold up over extended usage, and whether this may become as much of an issue as Microsoft’s RRoD debacle are all uncertain, but there has already been plenty of the expected Sony-bashing and crowing about beta-testers who should have known better…

And how much was this POS at launch, $400? Yeah, modern console gamers sure are suckers.
Get a job.
get a job!
That's nothing. PS3 was like ~$900 in Australia for years. It's still around double the price of buying anywhere else, even though the Aussie dollar is high.
Well, can't expect much from a country that bans small breasts, vaginas, charges people $250 for "monster HDMI cables" and wants to build Titanic II.
HAH! I knew it.
.ti wenk I !HAH
Well in fairness Sony did say that at least 0.4% of consoles would be faulty which is about 4000 of the 1 million. Gamers are quite the vocal lot also so it's inevitable that some people would have broken PS4's. Every electronic device has the same issues, and the X-Box one will be the same.
Lookie here! Someone on the internet with a brain and common sense!!!! A very rare breed, indeed.
Though I would take Sony's own numbers with some caution. MS drastically underestimated the 360's failure rates so it is possible Sony could be too. Most electronics have failure rates about 5% so it could be around there. Time will tell and allow the bugs to be ironed out.
Currently it looks like their estimate was a little high, the actual hardware faults, assuming this is a hardware fault is around .2%. Most of the faulty consoles appear to be bought from Amazon meaning that the supplier for amazon may be the problem.
just saying but on the second video the PS4 been out for less than a week and his console looks like its been dragged in dirt for the past 2 years.. I'd love to see the inside of the console.. as for the rest well we'll know soon enough if sony really screwed up like microsoft back then..
Go look up FixIt's review of the hardware, they thought it was good (abd very easily repairable).
Always buy a year or two after release. There weren't really a lot of good games to go with the launch anyways....
It was the PS3's that were released after a year or two that had problems, because Sony reduced the dual DVD/Blu-ray laser to just a Blu-ray laser.
But of course confirmation bias is only human nature, just pat yourself on the back for picking the right side of the coin.
yeah.. probably I won't get a Ps3 in the near future. I just wait 30 years and then run those ROMs via my phone on whatever screens we'll have by then.

Game Launch Rock
Wait until good games come out before deciding to buy a console
That's just common knowledge. If you want a protip, wait a few years after the next generation comes out. You will then have access to cheap hardware, games and lots of information about which games are any good.
Maybe I'm getting that PS3 2015.
In my case, I was gonna wait on getting a console until Watch Dogs came out....but I think i'm gonna wait a bit longer >.>
Spoken like a true gaming hipster.
shut up, 12 years old child who thinks its the best buy consoles in the launch
as it is seeable he doesnt write so he is shutted up.
The only ps4 game I want is also gonna be on ps3 (GGXrd) so....yeah, I'm waiting a good while lol.
Yea good luck with systems that are unhackable.
If you want o use YOUR system to its full (or better than what little liberty you are given) then always first model or second that is sure to have security issues.
Way to blow out of proportion some issues (as most are trolls and MS shills), wow, as if hardware always has 0% issues right, sure.
good luck not updating your firmware before an exploit is made public, pleb
I wont, i dont give a damn about online, fuck it for all i care, nor I am in a hurry for any new games, heck I only acre about jrpgs.
My 4.5 3ds salutes you, same as mu ps3 4.31 CFW, I hardly used them when I bought them, so yea I did not even had to try to not update, I NEVER HAD TO in the first place.
@11:57
"I have no friends to play online with".
That's what we all really just read. Deal with it.
@11:57
>not running a PS3 with 4.50 CFW DEX
Plebian. Online play and PSN store works like a charm as well.
Unhackable yah right.
If anything this system is probably going to be easier to hack then the PS3 and PS2 where due to it largely being a PC.
It's true. First PSX? Swap trick. First PS2? Swap trick with a shim. First PSP? I forget how CFW worked - I think you could just run the hack without issues, at least on 1.00. 1.50 wasn't much harder. First PS3? Well... don't know that that actually had hacking benefits when pretty much everything got cracked once the keys were extracted/derived. You did get PS2 BC and a bunch of memory card slots and USB ports though.
Generally the first edition is the one that's a bit rough around the edges, and if you peel back the right edge, you can get right inside it. We'll see how big an issue this turns out to be - right now it's too early to tell - but with Sony, you tend to get more features or quality parts in the first gen models (PS2, PS3, PSP all got flimsier and cheaper as they went on), with the caveat that a modern home console like this will also use way more power and run hotter than the later ones.
Nothing is unhackable because that which is made by humans can be undone by humans.
yea, goodluck waiting for the hack
If you want to make full use of your system, you would buy a PC. But let's be honest, you aren't after that aren't you?
Its not blown out of proportion. Game companies know that their releasing something full of bugs and before thoroughly testing it thrown on the consumers.
So already they have made $400 a pop off a console they will soon remedy with a fix which will cost extra money. This happens all the time. In IT we are discourage from doing the impulse buy because of issues like this. We know better.
Good thinking, more launch titles should be out by march next year.
Of course and the price will be lower.
In a year you'll be able to pick up one of these at any Walmart for under $400 with accessories.
Uh huh..
And 1-2 days later it's more then apparent the causes of this are very OBVIOUS problems like faulty HDMI wires or HD's..
Making the 2nd video even MORE suspect..
Yup its actually a faulty hdmi port on the PS4. A little tab inside the port just needs to be pushed flush with the casing and it will work.
While this definitely should not have happened, its to be expected with launch consoles. I still remember opening my launch PS2 and having a RSOD right out the the box, and my launch PS3 eventually getting a YLOD. Both of which I bitched to Sony for an got about 10 games free out of them (from the prev gen console since there weren't that many launch titles)
Depends where the parts come from as well too. If it comes from crappy third world graded country who use cheap material expect cheap results. Consoles are concerned mass produce items which is why they have so much problem.
I'm waiting for infamous at the very least. still happy with my ps3 at the moment.
The fuck was second video owner doing with its ps4. It looks like it was released atleast few months ago, while it should be brand new still.
It may have gotten beat up in shipping.
Maybe he tried to fix it like the Xbox http://youtu.be/cIARuzFOExc
I heard those PS4's come tightly packed in a box. You don't usually get one loose in a plastic bag or anything. Just sayin'.
Not always so tightly packed: http://www.reddit.com/tb/1qs1t0
When I got my PS3 that thing was covered by styrofoam then coated with god damn bubblewrap.
Seriously, that thing looks like it's in far worse condition then my PS2 and PS1 that are sitting in the closet, covered in dust and after a thousand + hours of use probably...
The main difference between failures today & failures in the old days is the Internet. Back in the day we didn;t hear about it. Today, a few million hear about one person's concole bricking. LOL.
Combine that with the idiotic console war fanboys who spread that video around as "proof" that the console is a failure, and the whole damn thing gets blown out of proportion.
Sony sold a million consoles on the first day alone, with that large of a number its inevitable that at least a few systems will have a defect and fail. If only 0.1% of the consoles fail, that would be 1,000 units, if then 10% of those unlucky people post about their console failing online, thats 100 youtube videos/amazon reviews/reddit posts/etc, then you add in the xbox fanboys reposting and sharing those videos, posts, and reviews, and suddenly the problem seems widespread.
Spot on Conduit!
As if Sony is an amateur hardware manufacturer. (cough M$)
considered as alien speak
yay fan boy
Actually the quality of consumer electronics has really gone south the past ten years.
People always quote stats like this. But if it was your console it would be a different matter.
Hope they get this sorted out :) I'd like to get one for X-Mas.
@U.N. Owen
Thats not really true, consumer electronics have increased in complexity significantly over the last ten years. The unavoidable downside to increased complexity is increased chance of failure. People constantly want devices that are faster, more powerful, and have more functions than the previous generation, the tradeoff is that there is an ever increasing number of things that can go wrong in these devices.
Nice BLODy Hell I will admit the PS3 has a better acronym for failure
