Popular free visual novels Narcissu 1st and 2nd are both on Steam’s Greenlight program as a collaboration between Sekai Project and Stage-Nana.
Although the novels still need the votes necessary to be released on Steam, they will both be “as free as Steam allows” on release, fully translated and available Windows, OSX and Linux.
Narcissu 1st & 2nd can be supported now on Steam Greenlight.

Trust me guys. These games will send your feels on a feel trip. YEP, it's one of those kind of VNs.
To me, this is excellent news. Okay, it's only an indie visual novel, but it's a very niche one at that, which I think is fairly respectable considering the good response these games have had over the years.
Definitely check this one out.

Unlikely. Even in the most depraved parts of the VN community, Setsumi is never sexualized and is considered pure. Nobody seems to fap to Setsumi.
I wonder if it's gotten the blessing from the original translators or not. They kind of worked their asses off trying to get Narcissu out to the public.
They would have to, otherwise they couldn't just put it up on Greenlight. I know at least Agilis (Narcissu 2 translator #1) is involved in the project. Haeleth (N1 and N2 translator #2) completely disappeared several years ago and I don't know if even Agilis still has contact with him (or if he's even alive, for that matter). Haven't heard of Seung Park (N1 translator #1) in ages, but I assume he's been contacted for permission.
The original creator stage-nana is obviously involved in the project as well.

Both the original Japanese version and the English translation were released all the way back in 2005. Side 2nd was released in Japanese in 2007 and a translation for it was released in 2010.

When you see trailers of that kind of production, of course you won't be woo'd straight away. Give this one a chance guys, it has a lot of deeper elements once you breech the surface.
I will warn that is IS a rather depressing VN. But lots of folk out there, myself included, don't mind feeling like shit if it's for an adorable girl we merely want to be able to help.

steam has quite a lot of free games so..
but since it will be hosted on Valve's servers, which cost money, they will probably end up having to pay a hosting fee or something. Most of those "free games", have in game store that give them money, but this is different.

You should treat a visual novel more like a reading material (like book, comics) than a video game. Rather than playing with it, you watch how the story unfold.
ps. I also disagree with some people that want to strip the play part from video games by making it shorter, but still do enjoy reading visual novel from time to time.
Not just "should treat", they ARE reading material; arguably more so than comics are.
It always irks me when people refer to a VN as a "game" or talk about "playing" it, cause it's very misleading.
comics dont have multiple endings where you choose, so VNs are like mildly interactive comics (NOT games on that i agree, altough whit some games today being so easy as to just mash the same button all the way trough i dont see much difference *cough*/god of war/*cough*

Narcissu is the lamest VN I've ever ready. The only thing it's trying to do to get some tears out of me. It failed.
And yet the author stated that it wasn't intended to do that and that he is a bit surprised some people cried because of it.
