Chinese Irons & Kettles “Contain Spam Chips”

Chinese made irons and kettles have reportedly been caught hacking into wireless networks to disseminate spam and viruses.

According to Russian media reports, electric kettles and irons discretely boasting their own wireless transmitters have been discovered breaking into poorly secured networks within a “200m radius” in order to spread viruses and spam.

Unsurprisingly, more sophisticated equipment like mobile phones and dashcams have also apparently been identified.

The devices appear to be part of regular commercial shipments rather than any
, and their discovery does not come at a good time when fears over backdoors inserted into network equipment made by army-affiliated giants like Huawei already threaten sales of non-clandestine IT equipment in many territories.
