China Quality HSR “Built From Rubbish”

china-quality-hsr-crumbling (1)

The latest less than reassuring scenes to emerge from China’s burgeoning rail network show sections of newly completed high-speed track already crumbling, and understandably once again have many worried about its safety – not least because it is apparently not regarded as a serious problem.

Fortunately the dissolving sections of foundations are only “protective layers” and apparently do not mean the whole structure is in imminent danger of collapse, though the public and local media do not seem overly reassured all the same…

Well they can fix the protective layer, but it does not inspire confidence.

Yeah, even if it is protective layer, they're usually meant to last...you know, to protect things.

That will surely change in 10-15 years, when a large chunk of work force retires and younger people start having health problems due to all the pollution. Sure it won't take long for that idea to change.

We dont even need to read these anymore, if there are pictures of rubble, a dead body, colored rivers, or a bunch of trash, then you should automatically know it's about China.

China lack of respect for thier own country is always disappointing, you would think by now they would learnt from ther mistakes, from previous mishaps. Its funny that this was the same country that buit the great wall of China.

Architecturally, the blocks circling around the supports are indeed protective layers, meant to prevent erosion of the weight bearing columns in what appears to be a currently dry river.

That said, they're obvious not serving their purpose if they're made of rubbish. The thing won't collapse now, but might in a few decades.

Hard to say, depends on how often the river floods. If it stays dry, there's no erosion.

I know I may sound like trying to blame the Chinese Communist party every damn time when we see this sort of news but the fact is that all those old bridges and buildings that are still standing were built during the time when the Nationalist was in power. I don't think it is fair to say Chinese lack of respect of their own country. It is the fact that deep down inside most people don't respect their own country as long as the communist is still in power and they don't have the power to overthrow the government or just too brain washed to see the corruptions that are gradually consuming the entire country under the ostensible glory that the Communist want the world and their own people to believe. In the end of the day, people around the world will see all Chinese as a whole are sloppy people that cant even build decent things on their own despite the resource and knowledge they have. It is also no making sense that why on earth there are great scientist and engineers plus that amount of resources ends up with shitty infrastructure. We all know something doesn't add up and it must be corruption.

That's what amazes me most about it all... If China just exported shit products to other countries and kept the good stuff for themselves, it'd be sneaky and dishonest, but rational. Instead it seems that shady fly by night operations are so rampant throughout the country, even the government can't escape getting burned by it. It's every man for himself, at least looking in from the outside at them.

The great wall needed constant repair to stay in shape. There are sections that already fell into mounts of dirt due to not being repaired for the past few centuries.

Considering the Great Wall was partially built out of the corpses of their own countrymen, this could be seen as a step up.

In China, everyone wants to get out of that hell hole. Fastest way to do it is- you accept 30 million RMB to build a bridge, you use 5 million and pocket the rest then you can retire and apply to get the hell out of there.

Actually, they did. They had slaves build those walls and the bury them at the wall's foundation. For an over-populated country, it's quite a cost-saver.

Uninformed idiot. When Qin ShiHuang was in the process of completing the Great Wall, he had each person carve their name on each brick. Then when the wall was inspected, he would kill off the ones that made bad ones and "re-hired" the ones that made good ones. The quality in ancient China was not bad at all. Even in early communism days it wasn't too bad until Mao decided on making a cultural revolution which threw out morals and ethics for his silly ideals.
