Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax is receiving yet more exposure in the form of its first location test at arcades.

The gaming press was on hand at the recent Sega arcade location tests, to see the full Dengeki bishoujo lineup revealed in the form of Mikoto, Kirino, Kuroyukihime, Celty, Shana and Asuna – although a depressing number of the characters on offer are so far confined to support roles:

They were actually all give a sheet of complex combos to try out before hand.To see if any of them would cause bugs or glitches. They really should have held the locktest in America we know how to test drive things in the most entertaining way possible.

Obesity in Japan isn't a big problem even for most people who don't leave homes(not saying there aren't any it's just not a good example of it).If you want fat people it's America.

The devs behind Melty Blood and UNiB, Ecole Software and French-Bread, have been announced as the devs of this game, so it actually has a decent chance of not getting Sega'd. Watched a bunch of the location test stream over the weekend, and it was looking pretty good, with a handful of good players cropping up for all characters. Damage could do to be a little higher across the board, but the whole point of these tests is to gather feedback anyhow.

And hey, at six characters, DFC already has as many characters as Killer Instinct is going to have at launch, right? Though that says more about KI than it does about the game that's not even close to release.

    Too few characters. FAIL.

This isn't the era of Killer Instinct 1 anymore.

Even so, a crossover game should have at least 20 playable characters to feel complete. This is around 30% of that, so even as a tests feels incomplete.

Even at six characters (very unlikely for the final product), if it can have them decently balanced, it'd still have about the same competitive roster size as MvC2. MSS ad infinitum.

What? Street Fighter 1? I'm old enough to remember that one, and yeah, it was good for its time, but that doesn't change the fact many more characters are to be expected from a current fighting game.

    Oh, so witty! So clever!

It's too few characters even for a public promotional display, you mandrill. And laugh's on you if you really think they're going to add many more characters after this.

Completely agreed. When BB launched 4 years ago, 12 characters was considered "too few" by many. I was expecting around 15 characters minimum.

Maybe they'll have more characters at later loketests, but I'm not having high hopes. In fact, wasn't the whole game supposed to be released very soon? I have a feeling that we are looking at complete character list here...

It's got some time before then, probably March release at the earliest. There was lots of room on the character select screen for more (not to mention the assist character space), and I'm sure Dengeki has more franchises they want featured.

At any rate, it's likely going to beat the new KI's awesome release lineup of six (6) characters.

Thank you. I didn't even bother watching the newest videos - the older ones were bad enough for me to lose all hope for this game. The production values look abysmall and combo damage (even with 3 bar supers) was minimal, which were all enough for me to dismiss the game. For whatever reason, I thought this was 2013 winter release as well, so I assumed they had no more time for any real changes, if they even planned to hold more loctests.

Seeing it's spring 2014, there's minimal chance of this turning out decent. However, based on the first trailers... if they are showcasing stuff like that, I'm going to assume this is a quick cash-in game on the waifu/husbando market, instead of an attempt at a serious fighting game.

Obviously it wasn't going to be a new SF, but new melty or aqua pazza was in the cards when they announced it, but I've lost any hope I had in the title. Maybe they'll prove me wrong, once spring rolls out.

Eh. Skullgirls started with 8, now has 9, and will soon have 10.

If the combat system is rock solid, and the characters are differentiated enough to not all play identically, a handful or two of characters is plenty.

But then again, the sprites of DFC don't look remotely as good as the SG ones. :I

    Depressing? This is fucking awesome!
I can't be the only one that would rather have something like 6 well designed unique characters in the final version of this instead of 20 generic ones.
Really. For me personally this is when fighting games went wrong. It's when they started adding ridiculous numbers of characters, a good portion of them mere clones of estabilished ones, that I stopped playing them.
If anything, Dengeki Bunko made all the right choices for me. Limited number of characters, simple control scheme, and great unique designs.

Yeah, I personally hate the Capcom method of, "make 50 characters and maybe a dozen will be playable at a competitive level". Look at MvC2. It's depressing to stare at a massive character roster like that, fully knowing that only about six are worth a damn.

Still, I'd like for them to target about a dozen characters on release. With microtransactions being how they are these days, you've pretty much gotta expect some shit getting held back as dlc, but a default of twelve, relatively balanced characters would be a fine place to start.

And if they think they can manage more, power to them. Really hoping to see Fear-chan (C³) and Minorin (ToraDora!) added to the roster myself, because Yukarin and Hocchan do want.
