Why, Lupin's got a chance, since Hollywood is good ad making shoot-ride-fight movie stuff.

They'd probably mess up characters though.

    WHY? JUST WHY?

If you cant to see an EVA or GitS movie JUST WATCH THE MOVIES!. What is gained by making it live action? Nothing at all. Same story (hopefully) just robbed of its original artistic style.

It (whatever they chose) could be good, if screenwriter and director were chosen from among dedicated fans of the original or the genre, and then would be left alone to do what they do best, without producers poking them with their small dicks from behind.
Del Toro for instance. He's mecha fan, he had full control, PR is fukenawsum!

It'd be pretty hard to fuck up a Lupin III movie I think. And that, at least, is something Hollywood would have a reasonable chance of doing well with.

You know, PART of me feels like Hollywood could actually do Lupin III. Of course, it would probably reignite the whole legal thing with the Leblanc estate if they did, though.

On second thought, it's more like Hollywood COULD have done Lupin III: forty years ago. The manga would have been perfect fodder for Russ Meyer.

I thought, as a principle, nobody wants ANY anime to be made live-action. MUCH LESS by Hollywood who are INCAPABLE of even the SLIGHTEST BIT of accuracy. I'm still recovering from the cancer that is the first two Percy Jackson movies.

I don't get why they need to be made live-action... Anime as well as some select western animations proves that the medium can be used for serious storytelling. Not to mention it's actually stronger in some ways, it's much easier to create amazing scenery with animation than (often crappy) CGI...

    05:16 29/09/2013 # ! Neutral (0)

Let's see, hollywoodified Gundam. Protagonist would be some US marine without a personality. Enemy would be some cliched bad guy with paper thin ambitions. Then copy the plot of Gundam 0083 but remove the space and everything that was remotely good and replace it with a damsel in distress whom the bad guy kidnaps and voila! You've got Hollywood Gundam.

Its not just that Hollywood would screw it up, its the fact that Japanese shows, especially ones involving super powers and different types of cultures will never translate well to American culture. I mean stuff that is hilarious in the anime could very well be completely cheesy in a real world situation.

They won't stay true to the source, will try to Americanize it and in the process completely ruin it.

Bruce Willis charm also par against Lupin. Too bad those personality are so different but the story telling in Hudson Hawk was almost like a lupin story.
Ancient artifacts, evil mastermind, old western castle, and a crazy thief scene.

Dont you talk shit about Total, er i mean Hudson Hawk. But nah Lupin III is nothing like Hudson Hawk. Lupin III is ummm....it's like a mix between Ocean's Eleven, the Pink Panther movies, Sherlock Holmes, and...fudge it's hard to explain, it's got an old school feel to it character story wise, it's about a sly thief, who is in lust and love with a female thief who is usually causing trouble and disapearing, he's friends with a grizzled Bogart type and a samurai, and they're usually being chased by a Japanese interpole detective that is clumsy and whom Lupin makes look stupid. Then there is the new series which I havn't seen before

On a side note, Lupin III was so popular is has he has an unofficial background that his grandfather is Arsene Lupin, from Maurice Lablanc's novels, who Arsene Lupin himself was unofficial Sherlock Holmes son.
