PS4 Release Date “Its First Disapointment”

Sony’s PlayStation 4 has been confirmed for a $399 November 15th release in North America, and a €399 November 29th release in Europe (£349 for those still trapped in the UK), disappointing those who still hoped for an October release – to say nothing of the Japanese, who did not even get a date.
The irony of Sony hosting a release conference in Europe only to announce the US would be getting the console 2 weeks earlier and $130 cheaper (and not even mentioning what sort of release Japan would have to endure) has not gone unnoticed, although with Microsoft obligingly doing everything it can to scupper its own release it seems unlikely to pose much of a problem.
Sony also confirmed further price drops for the PS3, which is dropping to $199.99 and €199.99 in the US and EU. Of more rather more use to existing gamers was the confirmation of discounted pricing on PS4 titles for the owners of existing PS3 versions.

Because he'd be an asshole when compared to Central and East Europe countries which pay for the console in euro and earn in their own currency, usually 1/4~1/2 per month of what West earns. How does THAT sound?
That is the price without taxes and the € price has taxes included.....
Different european countries have different taxes, yet the price is the same in all countries. So the taxes can't be the only excuse.
And btw, the US price with taxes is still a lot cheaper.
In my country we have 24% VAT.
399€*0,76 = 303€ or ~406$
In my it's 22% they just raised it from 20 to 22
You also got the Value Added Tax (VAT) which is an extra 20% on the price of stuff.
and even then some products are still cheaper. or even more so Available. most products don't even get shipped to my country. so i have to import it from a diff. country within the eu... so basicly even more expensive.
I really don't see what the problem is with the release dates. November 29 is Black Friday in the US so they had to have the console released before then. EU however does not celebrate Thanks Giving Day and as such November 29 is a perfectly fine release date, so what's so "disappointing" about it?
No mention of a Japan release IS weird though, but they also said it'll be available in 32 countries in that launch window so maybe Japan will be one of those? Or (mostly likely) they're leaving those details for Tokyo Game Show, until they have a better estimate on how many units they can manufacture.
Indeed. This not only perfectly reasonable, but it is also very common. Most consoles launch in the US first due to the lucrative holiday shopping season. The Wii U also launched in the US first.

Hell, the PS3 price cut is nice considering they seemed like they weren't going to budge on that beforehand (although there IS a 200 dollar PS3 that's only 12 gb though already)
People keep hailing the PS4 as a savior and this is the first possible "misstep". If the XB1 listed a later release date, there would be riots at this point. This bullshit is why the gaming community is still frowned upon.

Wii U is basically already on life support at the moment and needs anyone they can get to produce games on their console.
Microsoft obviously shot themselves in the foot... like multiple times, and are trying to backtrack on everything they said. They would have been way better off saying absolutely nothing in the first place.
Sony basically wins by default in this situation. They just have to go by the book and try not to fuck things up like nintendo and microsoft did (and they have a decent blueprint for this since they know what mistakes those companies made.
Real gamers never cared about the MS hate since most of it never applied to us. Real gamers care about a next gen console that has next gen exclusives and that is where MS is winning while Sony is busy competing with the Ouya.

From the get go both Consoles fucked up man... 90% of the launch titles are coming on PC and none have the exclusivity which they did beginning of the last generation.
Since they have the PC architecture and easily transferred to PC you'll see games that's not normally on the PC will eventually arrive on Steam such as the many Japanese JRPGs other games and many indie titles. I wouldn't be surprised that games like Dynasty Warriors the Atlier series (Since TK fucked that one royally up) and so forth arrive as well....
There's no point in getting either console until probably in it's half life it seems when the hype settles down and turns into the real metal functionality and gaming.
Real gamers are a dying breed that will not support any of this social crap that all of these so called "consoles" are full of.

Because it was always believed to be in the start, mid of the month at first. And then a rumor started that it may even see an late October release.
Instead we are given an late November release...

To my knowledge Sony is Japanese (Well Chinese made now) but still, why does the country of Origin, who are just as big if not bigger gamers, then those of the west not get a release date?
- Japan has transitioned from consoles to handhelds and mobiles.
- historically console sales were low for Japan (PS3 sold half of PS2 numbers), and XBOX 360 just flopped (roughly 1-2 million units sold)
- developers and publishers want to make a profit so focusing on making handheld games is the smartest choice, unless you're one giant franchise
- So the low sales numbers make them less important to companies

PS3 sold pretty well in Japan, but the Wii sold even better and faster.
The biggest markets for Sony is actually in Europe then the US and Japan is last.
One thing people in the UK often forget... is that they have the VAT on stuff like that. The 399 euro has the VAT included already, while the US price, it's before taxes. Personally, We got a 14% sale tax where I live, so if I were to add the VAT and the usual sale tax, I'd get about $550 USD, which is more than what the UK pay with their VAT.
Blame the Value Added Tax for the higher prices.
399$ + 14% is around 454$, not 550$. And 454$ is 338€. That's still 61€ cheaper (that's 82$). Enough to buy a new game and some lunch.

€ is 33% stronger than $, so we pay 14% extra just because companies want us to.

It's unfortunate for Japan, but if you look at the games afaik there isn't anything super interesting for the Japanese market coming out on the console. Hopefully TGS will showcase some love for the JP market like a decent RPG that could be brought to the west.

the true disappointment is people looking foward to buy ps4 even knowing how frequent overheat happen in new versions of console (1st ver of ps2, xbox, ps3 fat, xbox 360). Even knowing that they are aiming to lower the price...using low quality generic amd parts....

What use would it be to announce a release date for a region you aren't even in at the time, when in a few weeks you're going to be having a conference in that region anyway...
there not ignoring japan, sony knows that they have japan basically locked down so there concentrating on the markets they actually have to work for first.
I am not interested in buying a PS4 but my friends that are buying it are happy about the release date. The PS4 might be disappointing on some level(s) but the release date is certainly not one of them.

Is this all that backwards compatibility has come down to? Paying for the exact same game except released on a current system? Or paying again for a digital copy (a digital copy which won't even work on next gen consoles... I guess not unless you pay yet again)?
On a similar note, I really hate how most of Sony's portable releases are the exact same thing as their console brethren (and even the 3DS/WiiU is guilty of this to a lesser extent). The poor Vita barely has five worthwhile exclusives to its name, and one of them's an updated PS2 game (speaking of which, who wants to bet that a lot of current games could still run on a 6th gen console like the PS2?). On one hand, you could praise portable gaming for not managing to lag so far behind the consoles as it did in the past (hell, we were still using the monochrome Game Boy when the N64 first came out, the Game Boy Color only coming out a couple years down the line), but on the other hand, it goes to further illustrate just how damn pointless all this high-spec upgrading has gotten to be (in fact, it amazes me how Sony and Microsoft apparently never learned a thing after the Wii soundly beat their sorry asses). By this point, I think the only way Sony's nickel & diming could be more apparent is if they.... well, if they pulled an Xbox One announcement.
