Of course you wouldn't know if you're served dog in a restaurant. Unlike with this "lion" here, telling the difference by taste is incredibly difficult, especially since the Chinese are famous for obfuscating the taste of the raw ingredient with all kinds of spices.

Dogs were bred for the sole purpose of being human companions, not food. They were bred from docile wolves to be friends and protectors. Many people view them as family members. That's why you'll see so much opposition to eating them. You might not agree, but you'd have to be incredibly (and perhaps even purposefully) dense to not have any understanding as to why people would find it disturbing.

Two things:
1. they aren't as tasty as grazing animals
2. traditional livestock yields cheaper animal products

eating animals are part of being a human but treating them inhumane is a big no, no, like in china i've seen pictures and read from blogs on how they prepare dog's for a meal.............

There usefulness as a companion pet, working dog, or security measure far outweigh the reason for turning it into a dinner snack. Those who respect dogs don't eat them, or let them breed out of control. Instead they develop the innate nature of loyalty and breed specific characteristics of a dog to suit a purpose. Like this, they become a member of the family, hence eating dogs, any dogs is just like eating a small child.

Actually, it's true. They're one of the few animals (if not only) that have such a close biological attachment to humans that they can actually read our faces and emotions. Not to mention they're loyal as fuck.

It's hard to say whether it's wrong or not to eat dog, but surely only a psychopath would abuse a dog.

It's not a matter of empathy its economics, If your living in poverty you'll look for cheap easy access to food. Small animals fall into this category.
