China Zoo’s Lion “Actually Dog”

Even the Chinese have been outraged by a zoo which passed off a dog as a lion, with the ruse only being exposed when a visitor questioned why their “lion” was barking.
The Henan province zoo was found to have been keeping a Tibetan mastiff in a lion cage, labelled as an “African lion.”
The “dog-lion” was outed when a mother took her child to see the animals, and was surprised to hear the lion barking.
The zoo’s explanation was that an employee’s dog temporarily replaced the lion when it was “sent away” to a breeding centre, because of unspecified “safety concerns.”
Once scrutiny was attracted it was also revealed that the zoo housed a white fox which it claimed was a leopard, and another dog which was labelled as a wolf.
This is unfortunately not the first time such concerns have been raised about China quality animals:

Animals are not meant to be kept locked in cages for human amusement. 'nuff said.
Zoo's aren't just about amusing humans, it's also a place of research on animals so we can better understand them and treat them medically. Also it's a place of conservation as many endangered animals not kept in cavity would go extinct
Zoos also amuse animals.
Depends on the zoos. Some of them put the humans in the cages and the animals get this huge open space to roam in. Said open space also resembles their habitat.

You might want to do some research. Animals in zoos are often there because they wouldn't be fit to live in the wild in any case. There are lots of orphaned and displaced animals in zoos.

For me, someone who can see real lions every day and go hunting them even, a Tibetan Mastiff is exotic.
It is a very good breed of dogs. You do not see these all that often in some places.
Especially zoos.

Yes, on mainland china dog meat can be more expensive than pork or beef. And it was raised to be eaten in Taiwan as recently as 12 years ago... Also, look at the tiger!
