“Even Fairy Tales Cannot Escape Moe Now!?”

That even the latest issues of popular fairy tale story books for children now boast outstanding moe artwork has been causing more than a little comment amongst otaku art historians – many of whom are left wondering how well even that style will survive the test of time…
The Little Mermaid (Ningyohime) 1985 vs 2013:
Cinderalla 1985 vs 2013:
Snow White 1985 vs 2013:
Little Red Riding Hood (Akazukin) 1985 vs 2013:
Hanzel & Gretel 1998 vs 2013:
The relative merits of 1985’s now old school art versus those of 2013’s kirakira wandafuru Precuresque editions have come in for some debate online:
“I guess a lot of the big friends will be buying these too…”
“The Little Mermaid looks like a hostess!”
“She is taking things too far!”
“I can’t help but think she has some seriously lascivious reasons for coming onto land.”
“She looks like she’s about to service half a dozen guys there…”
“They all look like idiots designed to appeal to anime otaku now.”
“Snow White looks like an AV cover.”
“These are ero-anime, right?”
“Cinderella would make a passable Sunday morning cartoon.”
“I think they are hoping to appeal to some parents as well. And there are probably not many artists around now who can do non-anime art styles.”
“I can certainly see some doujinshi coming out now.”
“The poor Little Mermaid looks like some horny tramp dressed so revealingly like that.”
“Looking at the 1985 version I don’t think exposure is the issue here.”
“1985 is more like she is pondering her love, but 2013 is more like ‘I am so going to seduce this guy’.”
“I prefer the old ones. Why does it all have to be anime now?”
“They are aiming for us with these.”
“They may as well just give up and redo all these as official Precure stories.”
“How fast art styles change:”
“Just what sort of art is going to be popular in another 30 years?”

The character design on the cover of the 2013 edition of THE LITTLE MERMAID are rather reminiscent of those in SHAMANIC PRINCESS, especially the eyes.
*is* rather reminiscent, sorry.
I can identify only 62 out of those 91 anime... OTL
Then please tell me which one is the second line in the 70's second picture from the left, the chick with a hat with tits. I can't recall right now.
Junko, from Time Bokan.

Thanks a lot, we've seen this series in my country with another name and couldn't remember, that helped a lot.
hmm how much is the mermaid charging :?
I approve of this Little Mermaid design. Why better then that ugly Disney stuff.
haha agree! im about to comment that it's not new since in Disney ~ you can't even recognize who is who without the clothing
Not really. It's actually pretty easy to see who is who.
You must be blind if you could not tell who was who. Besides you can say that for all the manga and anime with same face syndrome.

Are you a fucking weaboo or something, it's easy to differentiate Disney faces unlike generic moe anime faces where everyone looks alike.
I love how everyone who says otherwise is thumbs downed. Fucking weaboos just proved their point without saying anything.
Herpa derp derp is all I heard. I don't think I can accept this transition. I can understand wanting update these classics, but the way they did it is just so wrong. And don't hate on classic Disney weeboo, they made some good stuff back then.
Not really. In that drawing, she looks like she ate something, has allergies to it, and her face swoll up and is suffocating.
Actually it looks more like a young Japanese girl who has a little fat on her body like a normal person in a developed nation might. So... normal and tasteful rather.
Wow. Those filthy americans have more than a little fat. They are straight up obese. Those filthy barbarians sure love to look fat.
I much prefer what Zenescope comics did with all of these characters.
indeed
It's because you guys follow your dicks instead of aesthetics.
Little do you know how many research they do at Disney in order to come up with a character.
"OH IT'S NOT SEXY, THIS IS BAD ART!!!!1"
Grow up, will you?
Your life.
She caught AIDS.
Don't do it, do you know how the story of mermaids started? Sailors were on the ocean for years, without female contact, and coupled with diseases, their mind would trick them into seeing sea lions as half women half fish. So it's just your mind tricking you into thinking that sea lion is a pink haired moe character.
Tap it
Tape it too.
You know how mermaid have sex ? They lay their eggs, then you...(use your imagination)◔_◔
Same as your sister, 10 bucks.
I don't know what everyone is freaking out about. It's just new artists using the style they know. The only sexy one among them is the mermaid. And that pedo wolf, yeah. Look at the others without viewing the Little Mermaid first.
That said... DAT MERMAID.
I'm just waiting until they make a moe remake of Fist of the North Star.
Already exists. New art style looks odd.
Closest thing is Toriko, it's colourful... very at that... though the character's aren't moe (at least AFAIK, have only seen the 2 OVAs)
Sani, one of the Toriko's friends, is very bishounen and have rainbow color long hair.
Can't wait for moe Call of Cthulhu
Nyaruko?
Close enough
It's Luhy-san... And she's all kinds of OL hotness
Totally cute horrendous creatures from another dimension who rend the bodies and souls of mortals?
Justin Bieber, Harry Potter, New Kids On the Block, Hanson, and others?
for some reason im ok with this, or at least my penis is
Appreciation of art is in the brain. I guess that makes you a dick-head.
I prefer the new design. Old one was massively ugly.
Sound Horizon did that already a few years ago
I may be a little biased, but I like the moe versions more. I hate the way they use to draw cartoons.
^ Deleted sentence: Because they're too focused on story and art instead of making versions I can fap to.
DUDE
THE SPARKLES
All right. Put down the bong. You've had enough.
Put down the poon.
Even linear algebra books are moe nowadays.
http://nostarch.com/linearalgebra
I'd
taptranspose that.Oh,theres even one with moelecular biology.
It's all wrong. They are using two x coordinates instead of x and y.
There's nothing wrong in particular with using x1 and x2 instead, whether it makes sense depends on the context of the problem.
It's a reverse trap!
Like an insidious virus, it spreads everywhere to the detriment of all.
