Well when ti comes to no pain, it's possible for that to happen. I've heard stories about people losing limbs from shark attacks and not feeling when the limb is lost because of how their teeth slice.

The music and atmosphere really doesn't go with the gore of that scene. Did not feel intense at all.
Considering the music isn't really meant to match a mood per se, you're going to find that mismatch alot. It's like how in Macross Frontier, you have that technobeat as Sheryl sings until Alto blows up or something

It's basic animation and film theory. Sound and music enhances the atmosphere of the scene. You wouldn't try to express conflict in a scene with upbeat music.
The in universe reason for the song is that singing is what powers their relics. That's why they have to sing that bar to initially transform.
Damn right! The music (or score) bugs me too when it's blatantly unfitting. Well I'm not forcing myself to watch this type of anime anyway - so I don't care, even though I love Nana to bits.
Luckily we have many studios who do know what they're doing with music scores in anime. e.g. Kyoani, Ghibli, Sunrise.
Some songs have even made pop history by being the perfect music for the moment.
