After a series of cosplay efforts which seemed more designed to provoke angry fans into a publicity inducing furore than win them over with cuteness, SKE48’s Rena Matsui and Nogizaka46’s Rina Ikoma have saved the day by earning much praise for their “too cute” portrayals of magical puellae Homura and Madoka.
The cosplay appears in the September issue of fashion rag “Smart,” with Rina also providing some additional Madoka by way of an omake on her blog:
Nogizaka46, though billed as an AKB48 “rival” group, is managed by Akimoto as well and so probably owes more to his canny efforts to create some pro-wrestling style inter-group tension than any actual rivalry.
SKE48’s Airi Furukawa has also previously been noted for her efforts:
Japanese’s makeup skills are as frightening as ever.
trying to imitate that wavy long hair is difficult
maybe her imitation is not meant for show? and she doesnt want to be imitated because of this reason?
are they as tight as madoka and homura?
Japanese don’t translate too well into anime characters.
How could they? Anime characters are stylized Caucasian depictions for the largest part. You know it’s true.
*facepalm*
Just because you think drawn characters all look like “default human” to you, which is caucasian.
