I think I'm not the only one who made a new playthrough for exact this kind of thing. Still, not as bad as Daibanchou.
Rance is one of the modern games I love as much as FFT. That's speaking a lot about an "eroge".
You have not played hentai games it seems, because hentai games do not commonly have elaborate non-hentai mechanics such as a fucking full blown RPG.
If anything, it is more like an RPG game peppered with sex scenes, much like those Hollywood movies that contain sex scenes but are not called porn films.
I would say it's closer to a 65/45 split at this point between regular visual novels and everything else.
While SRPGs are typically quite popular, the amount of extra effort and cost put into adding an RPG and/or combat system to a game probably doesn't lead to the needed boost in sales to justify it, so only a handful of companies will bother to do it (Eternal, BaseSon, Alicesoft, Eushully, ect.). Regular VNs are still very popular so there isn't much incentive for a larger company to take those kinds of risk.
That said, if you move out of the VN space, you'll find a plethora of H-Games in just about every genre you can think of being made by smaller or independent developers. The art may not match up with some of the more mainstream VNs but there tends to be a lot more variety (they don't have to play it safe and go with the stereotypical pseudo/high school setting)and a larger selection of gameplay styles (RPG Maker games, SRPGs, Platformers, 2D Fighters, Brawlers, Puzzles/Mahjong, Shooters, ect.).
nah you just have a narrow view of eroge because you havent explored the medium very much. Most people assume since they contain porn they must by focused on it but this isnt really the case. Dont get me wrong, there are plenty of ero focused ones and these ones tend to be the ones that get localized but it really is a vast medium
there are plenty of eroge loaded with extensive non hentai mechanics or focused primarily on story as opposed to ero content. For rpg stuff try some alicesoft games. That or look up rpg as a tag on vndb and then check out the top rated games.
You have low standards. All eroge are mainly about sex and their RPG/gaming elements are not up to par with standard mainstream games. That's not to say some eroge are better or worse, but the best of them is still in the mediocre level of mainstream gaming. And the sex elements are all shit and all the same.

Hello, I'm a doctor of jayarrpeegeeology and I know best. It has been scientifically proven to be an outstanding game with such a gentle touch that you won't be able to go back to toilet paper or generic harem manga once you wipe your ass with it.
