After Famitsu hastily deleted a survey asking gamers which company they would most like to step in and rescue the remains of Atlus from Index’s insolvency and probable dissolution the question of Atlus’s fate has become more controversial than ever…
Just why the topic was sensitive enough to last only a few hours before being removed without explanation has been the subject of some speculation – as, of course, has the matter of who should take Atlus under their wing:

SquareEnix also published Deus Ex Human Revolution. As publishers, they are exceptional and have seemed to make pretty good decisions in general with the epic games. If Thief 4 is coming through them as well like I sincerely hope it is, then they will have saved yet another franchise that makes me almost go to tears to see it back.
Their internal games may be what cause fans and detractors to uselessly battle about the game quality, however their publishing work in general through other third-party developers I feel has been pretty impressive. Moreso than most in my opinion. They would not necessarily be in bad hands, however the change in policies does make the future worrisome in that direction as well.
All their major published games have been profitable from what I saw in their statistics even if FFXIII-2 didn't sell as much as they wanted, it did still sell over 1.5 million early on.
Actually, I'm curious what caused them to lose so much money, does anyone have actually figures or concrete information?
