Microsoft has announced the future of TV (though it can still play games for some reason) will arrive in November, costing $499 in the land of the freely surveilled.
In addition to the US price of $499 for a standard 500GB model including Kinect functionality, European gamers will face the games industry’s unswerving belief that the exchange rate is fixed at $1:€1, with an EU price of €499 ($660). UK buyers will face the even less favourable price point of £429 ($670).
Curiously, Japan was omitted entirely from the announced list of 21 launch countries, although Microsoft did say a Japanese release for its console is “planned” – presumably meaning the company will either delay the launch or quietly save itself the humiliation and not bother this time.
Although so vanishingly few Japanese gamers care about the Xbox as to make the lack of details a non-issue, the 33% price differential between US and Europe has infuriated many.
Microsoft also took the unexpected decision to actually show some Xbox One games at E3 instead of merely concentrating on TV and American football as previously – although most of the titles highlighted were in fact multiplatform, and the new flagship Halo title will only be released in 2014.
Its final exciting announcement was a slim edition of the Xbox 360 – a handy addition for anyone wanting to play their old 360 games as without any backwards compatibility they will be required to have both consoles on hand.

$500 for a glorified cable box that may or may not spy on you and cant play old or used games properly....no thanks.
I can actually build a higher performance PC for those $500 already and the system isn't even out yet. By the time it comes out I'll prolly be able to do it for $400.
I dont think so. At 400 you'll only get alow end mainboard + i5 cpu + 500GB + 4GBRAM at max.
Consoles are always cheap performancewise. MS is probably barely covering the hardware costs. Sony is definitely losing money from hardware sales.
I'm building a medium Gaming rig right now. And with a 4770k + 16GB 1866 RAM + GTX 660TI + MSI Z87 GD65 Mainboard + 256GB Samsung 840 Pro + Watercooling (mostly EK waterblocks, 240mm double radiator + 140mm radiator, cooling CPU and GPU)
I'm well over 2k€.
And I don't think the X1 or PS4 will have only quarter or less performance. Well of course they can't do all the other stuff a PC can do...
Design is one things, but to keep it cool?, don't make me laugh. Or, do you want to argue with the thousands if not millions of users with YLOD/RROD consoles...?

A "medium" gaming machine doesn't water cooling, an i7, or 16 gig ram...Get the i5, no water cooling, a gtx770, and 8 gig ram. You're +/- 10% cpu, +30% video speed, and $700 ahead.
With that being said they always sell these are a loss for hardware. Mostly because they have to design everything to fit in that little box and keep it cool. They make their money back from game titles and other services. That's how it's always been.

Not really. It's just the dawn of a new age. I've long since forsaken every and all big-business games and only play indie titles. And I started making my own games; no need to bitch about stupid design decisions this way.

Nope its not, is more expensive because MS is making profit for each unit sold (like nintendo) the machine should be cheaper to build than the ps4, also there is the belief that cheap equals no good, (hence 800 dollar smartphones, and 2000 dollars laptops, wich btw cost less than half theyr prices to build) so 500 is a bit pricey but hey, the PS3 launch at 600 7 years ago (thats like 800 nowadays adusting for inflation) and in the end beat out 360, yes the race as it stands now is wii number one, ps3 number 2, 360 number 3, and whit the ridiculous long lifecicles of sony consoles and the dead of the wii, the ps3 might even win the race outright a few years down the line

It comes with kinect 2, dumbass. MS showed a lot of good games. I was thinking PS4 before E3, but now I am prepared to get Xbox One. Dead Rising 3, Halo, Titanfall, Project Spark, and Ryse all look better than the games I've seen from Sony.. Their press conference hasn't started yet, so that might change.

I cannot believe that people will actually PAY money to be part of the Microsoft Personal Snooping box... A surveillance machine that monitors you and your tv and game habits.
Buy a PC instead. You still have to contend with the same DRM crap, and games you can't resell only you can mod the games, get better graphics out of it and avoid paying for their foolish decisions. After all, if they want to turn their box into a PC, then why not simply go and buy a darned PC?
Really, $500 US isn't too bad considering. But most people don't look at value, only the price on the box. That didn't work out well for the PS3. Looks like it's MS's turn to be Sony next gen.
PS3 in 2006 was $499.99 for a 20 GB model and $599.99 for a 60 GB. 7 years later $499.99 and $399.99 to much to pay?? Get that shit outta here.

I have been a Xbox fan since the original came out as I like the controller more, they had better racing games and the system itself (OS menu and functions) were easier and more streamlined then PS2 and PS3.
This is now all changed and will never buy a X1 from the BS I am reading. I have a HTPC for all my entertainment needs. For Gaming I want a system that does that very well, and only that in my opinion.
