A woman who discovered a rotting goldfish in the Pepsi bottle she had just started to drink has shaken the confidence of Chinese cola drinkers.
The woman reportedly bought a 600ml bottle of Pepsi at a Shaanxi province supermarket, and after taking her first swig noticed something red floating inside.
On closer inspection this turned out to be a 6-7cm long and 3-4cm wide goldfish, in an advanced state of decomposition.
Efforts to pass the blame swiftly ensued – the supermarket claims that as the goldfish looked to have been dead for some time, it must have been accidentally introduced at the bottling plant.
However, the neck of the bottle was only 2.5cm wide, raising some unsavoury possibilities as to just how it ended up in the bottle – it having been deliberately put in being the most obvious one, although this being China the possibility of a bottle housing the fish having been recycled does not seem entirely implausible.
Pepsi says it is “hard to determine” how the fish ended up in the bottle and offered the woman 2 cases of its fine beverage by way of compensation for her disgusting and health-threatening experience, which she unsurprisingly declined.

There is something fishy going on here.
That certainly was golden.
your jokes made me wet
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS IT TASTES FISHY!!
//sarcasm//X3
If there's one fish in one bottle, how many fishes are in 2 cases?
Still one, in both bottles at the same time.
Aw fuck, now I remember where I left my goldfish..
this is how fish sauce is made in china
bet it smells fishy too
sounds fishy to me
Aw, she got the secret prize! Some people just have all the luck...
Poor goldfish...RIP ;_;
if Pepsi made it look like its a secret lucky draw and gave her an amount sufficient, it would remove her disgust, remove the threat, and so fort.
I think the goldfish was lucky.. Just think, it got to swim in a bottle of Pepsi instead of a Chinese river, which do you think is safer?
At least it didn’t explode.
Just add some Chinese mentos!
The bottle, or the fish?
Srsly, as much as I hate China. There's just no way you can open the bottle to take a sip before finding out. Look at the photo. Obviously the fish was put there after the bottle was opened.
And there's loads of phosphoric acid in Pepsi and Coke. I don't think there are any organisms living in there which could be able to decompose the fish.
As of yet...
Maybe if you shake it?
Rotten???
Fish no dead he sleep
YOU BUY NOW!!!
Not dead, merely pining for the fjords, or the Chinese equivalent.
Surely all the sugar and chemicals helped preserve it...
Yes, because nothing preserves organic matter like soaking it in acid..
Coke original has tons of sugar (which actually helps things rot faster).
The most widely drank things, Diet Coke and Coke Zero have no sugar.
Pepsi isn't Coke you nartard.
Not to mention Coke Classic doesn't have "sugar" in all countries (it does however in China), many regions, like North America had it replaced with Corn Syrup.
Wrong. Have you ever seen sugar rot? Lots of sugar and lots of Phosphoric acid should kill off everything living in there.
Coke: Polar bear plush
Pepsi: Goldfish
What? It's the new flavor. Pepsi Gold.
I guess the bottles are 600ml instead of 500ml to accommodate for extras.
Or 600ml instead of 1l because they stole 40%.
'Sorry you nearly got life-threateningly ill from consuming one of our beverages. Would you like two more crates? Wait, where are you going?'
To buy a fishtank.
I think we should all make a pact that says that if we ever hear somebody say that they wish to go to China, be they stranger or close friend, we should just punch them in the face.
you sound really stupid . stay in your little well.
"I'll buy this drink, it has a golden surprise in it!! ;D"
*Buys and sips a little*
It tastes like dead fish.. 0.o
*Checks it*
Oh~ :/
SECURITY!! (Now on News)
Huh well that's disgusting, but I would have taken the free Pepsi.
You want more fishies?
Wrong! If this had been in America she would be arrested for product tampering. Even if she is just fake trying to get some money. Search for "syringe+pepsi"
a fucking lie, the coke can disolve teeth but not a fisgh, that photo its fake, the corpse looks brand new.
Coke dissolves bones (calcium), not tissue nor meat (proteins, fat, etc).
well at least it didnt explode...
Completely fake. You can take the bottle off a pepsi without breaking the seal.
I can think of a hundred reasons why someone would stick a rotten goldfish inside a pepsi bottle.
Just think of it as the China version of the Golden Ticket.
Still not remotely as disgusting as Cherry Coke ...
So what was swimming in that cherry coke?
My bet is the chinese pepsi plant ran low on bottles, so they swiped what they could to meet production.
Turns out someone was raising a goldie in one of these bottles. They drained it, rinsed it and chucked it on the line.
Advanced state of decomp?
I reckon not, anyone seen those videos of meat soaking in acidic soda? I'd guess the fish was decomposing, more like marinating.
You can't raise a fish that big on 600ml, someone just put that fish there on purpose.
Advanced manufacturing process allows bottle to be molded around live fish...
