The latest entry into the Guilty Gear series has been revealed in the form of Guilty Gear Xrd, although the decision to introduce 3D to the traditionally hardcore 2D franchise by way of the Unreal Engine has caused something of an stir amongst the more purist fans…
Oddly enough Ishiwatari Daisuke is not voicing Sol this time.
Oh well I cannot wait to get my hands on this game. :3
It's been so long since after all those other additions and I think I really need a new Guilty Gear all together, which means more ROCK.
Ishiwatari never voiced Sol when it came to story modes, only the game. The first voice actor who voiced him in such a mode was Hikaru Hanada (I think that's his name), and later Jouji Nakata, who was also available for the game at the same time as Daisuke Ishiwatari. I'm glad they kept Nakata. His grave voice is awesome.
ill totally get this. I still love guilty gear. idc bout the 3d so long as it works. I think me and most other reasonable people will accept an "improvement" so long as it really does bring something good to the game. change can be good and also bad.
You can't imagine how much this means for Japanese game developers. Until now, they've been hugely limited in terms of what they can do within a low to mid-budget project because they've always had to build their engines from scratch.
The inability to use universal pre-built game engines is one of the key factors for why Japanese games in general have become so stale as of late. If game engines such as Unreal become more popular with Japanese devs, we might be looking at a whole another picture in 3-5 years.
Prebuilt engines are generally more powerful yeah, that and supported on a wide range of things. Still... The idea that they make an engine called the Idea Engine for fighting games, their own in particular is pretty funny.
Square Enix has already has Unreal Engine 3 and 4 and has plans to use it for future titles they plan to make.Already Konami has its own Engine known as Fox Engine they don't really need to use Unreal Engine.
That's not entirely true. Most big Japanese studios(Capcom, Konami, SE) have been using the pre-built engines such as Unreal and Havok this generation. Most, if not all, MMOs from Japan and Korea uses a pre-built engine. I know that Tera Online used Unreal.
Sign me the hell up! Overture was kind of a weak point to walk out on, and I thought Arc Systems was only going to devote their future efforts to that lame-ass BlazBlue. This looks beyond badass.
Why would you care what your hardware is if it looks good and runs smoothly? You know that XBox and PS3 controllers work with PC right? Or that there are myriads of gamepads out there to use with a PC? Your "controls more naturally" argument makes no sense.
All that glare, fire, charge and other effects have always been in the previous games. Only this one looks like a thousand times more fucking amazing. :p
The cel shading is tricking us to not see the 3D, it's supposed to look 2D even though it technically isn't. The unreal engine is pretty much camouflaged, in a sense.
Defintiely not shitty art, do you even american cartoons?
And that whole ahegao thing is just funny as fuck, what's bad about laughing a bit while... More

I want to hear his GURANDO VIPAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!
not odd at all. Joji nakata have alrady voiced sol numerous times, and is a veeery reliable voice actor.

boring news... i cant relate to this game.... *useless comment*
Well an opinion is an opinion. Nothing wrong with that.
Could work...
Shit looks badass! Fuck yeah!
When I heard they were using the Unreal Engine, I couldn't help but wish they made their very own system and called it the Idea Engine.

blegh
an anonymous person says 'blegh', could there be a more pointless comment in existence? lol
Hmm. Didn't like the chara design, Sol's got a weird face. Everything else seems ok.
Well Street Fighter 4 worked going 3D, so probably will work too if they get it right. Looking forward to it!

What a great idea... or maybe not?
Marvel vs. Capcom 3, StreetFighter X Tekken, DLC, DLC, DLC.
let's hope the best ~sigh~
Ky look more girly now, How is that fucking possible?
Estrogen injections.
And testicle removal.
mugen , ky-ko ... fuuuuuuuuu-...SION !
(knowing it's actually trunks VA doing ky's voice ..)
I came...
Me too xD
With unreal engine there's no excuse to miss a chance to get that on PC.
As much as I love PC games, fighters just control and feel more natural on PC.
I mean console

Must be all those extra pixels that are distracting him.
Your mom controls and feels more natural on PC. I mean console.
There's still the excuse of wanting to avoid the hotbed of piracy that is the PC. Whether it's a good one is another question though.
There's always the excuse of "we don't give a fuck".
I think it looks great! They did a great job emulating the 2D style and animation of the original games, but in 3D. Very impressive.
But all that glare, fire, charge and other effects tend to obscure too much of what's going on.
All that glare, fire, charge and other effects have always been in the previous games. Only this one looks like a thousand times more fucking amazing. :p
I doesn´t look like 3D at all...
Agreed. This barely counts as 3D, and even then it's just the backgrounds and some of the flashy moves.
The Unreal Engine is capable of so much more, it's disappointing to see it wasted.
Wasted? There office would get firebombed if they dared to take it much further than this.
The cel shading is tricking us to not see the 3D, it's supposed to look 2D even though it technically isn't. The unreal engine is pretty much camouflaged, in a sense.
they're not trying to make Gears of War, they're just using some of the advantages of 3D modeling for a 2D fighter.
like what we saw with SF4.
This tops SF4 so much.
Perhaps they deliberately made the artstyle that way. You know, to keep the purists in line.
Why should it matter though? As long as it looks good, and it clearly does here, that's all that matters.
Artefact failed to mention "celshading". It's 3D made to look 2D. It's done it's job well before, so of course Arc Sys wouldn't screw that up!
then watch the trailer
Awesome for a lot of reasons.
I will learn how to not suck with you Zappa! I must!
A character who has the mannerisms/costume of a bunch of characters from JoJo and Vanilla Ice..
Yeah, Guilty Gear knows how to have fun, lol..
GUYS GUYS GUYS!
DIZZY IN 3D!
*FAINTS*
I AM GOING TO LIKE THIS!
I'll see your Dizzy and raise you Bridget.
I see your Bridget, and raise you Jam
I thought Bridget could raise on his own?
...
I can't wait to see I-NO! :D <3
