Haganai Movie Due – Author: “A Bad Idea I Know”

Tomodachi ga Sukunai’s author Yomi Hirasawa has not only confirmed that a live action movie adaptation is due, he also concedes he authorised it despite thinking it “unsuited” to 3D, and politely asks fans to stop trying to get it cancelled…
He is admirably frank in admitting he thinks he may have erred in allowing the project to go through:
It doesn’t get much more uncool than being revealed through a request for extras (I won’t use the work’s keyword of “unfortunate”), but yes, there is a live action movie adaptation of Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai underway.
The offer asking to adapt it into a movie came in June of 2011, and with the first season of the anime under way it was the most positive time of my life.
Personally I don’t think Haganai is really suited to live action, so when it came to discussing the offer I was dead against it.
However, I was quite worried about the future of the light novel industry at the time, so I recall acceding to the request thinking that “it’s necessary for the health of the industry to get new people working on adaptations beyond just anime and manga, instead of just fighting over slices of a tiny pie.”
As to what I think now after a second season of the anime, let’s just say that with lots of people already working on the project it doesn’t really matter, and leave it at that.
[…]
Lastly, a request. On Twitter and elsewhere there are petitions and the like trying to get the movie cancelled. However much you hate it, rather than trying to destroy it, wouldn’t it be better just to ignore it?
That doesn’t apply just to films, but also anime, manga and games, it’s all the same.
IF you dislike something, there is absolutely no need to try to force yourself to accept it, and if you don’t want to watch it, you don’t have to.
I have written any number of times about the malign nature of trying to eliminate something you don’t like by force in Haganai, so I trust readers will be able to understand my point.
I love 2D media such as anime and light novels, so if I said I had misgivings about 3D adaptations of them I’d be lying, but whether I affirm or deny the decision I made 2 years ago I’d still rather see the movie first.

As long as it's faithful, I'm set.
They can begin by making RL Sena's three-size identical to the original.
and what would they do about the naked women? use underage girls? -.- i am not so gonna watch it....Good luck
They could use an actor who is not native Japanese for Sena, her ethnic background isn't Japanese either so it'd work... I mean her blond hair and blue eyes are big part of her character.
As for the lolis, living in Finland and having seen bunch of live action movie adaptations of Astrid Lindgrens stories which include scenes of naked kids I've never seen them sexually nor have I seen that being "wrong" or twisted in any way...the way they're depicted in the movies is simply innocent. Sure in Haganai they're shown naked with fanservice mindset so I don't think it'd be the same, but still...what does it say of our present world if we can no longer do it without making it seem wrong or twisted?
but you know that would never happen right
all of the actor won't be made to fit into the original stories, but to fit into the director's script(which can be so much different with the original).
"...but whether I affirm or deny the decision I made 2 years ago I’d still rather see the movie first."
It is the simplest of logic that always seems to elude us on the internet.
Logic? That irrational hope on the almost nonexistent chance that the live action movie actually being good, given past record, is actually very illogical.
There's no need to bash it, but... let's get real here.
At least he is frank about it unlike the majority of people who either try to cover up or convince himself (and everyone else) about something that isn't true.
That I can respect.
She, it old be awesome of moetard to say meo is pure shit that ahs made so much damage no anime spiritually at the least, but that they like and eat that shit regardless.
Same in english please. :)
if
"poop in anime" = moe = true
{
then anime + moe = spiritual damage
}
else
customer + anime = good

Wow... that's some shitty pseudo code writing. What are you, a 1st year?
i am a pink haired gurl with a wery rowdy language ;P
You're drunk, 4:32. Go home."
Very much so. And yeah, if people don't like it, then they can just ignore it. Your opinion will be expressed by not going to the movie theater.
You don't understand... If they don't go, how would they fuel their hate? It's a vicious circle. Hateable thing is produced > Pay to hate and talk about it > Hateable thing is produced.
I like your username. I think we've meet somewhere before, Powerpuff Loli.
Anyways, I came to this site for my daily fap material. Unfortunately I already jizzed away most of my cum.
as much as I agree with the guy, I still don't see this turning out well
I'd be curious to see it! How much fanservice will it have and who will play the lolis =3
Would they allow 3D loli fan service? It might be watchable if they did.
FUKOU DAAAAA!!!!!
there are plenty of adult Asian woman with flat chests that could play the lolis
There are plenty of lolis that could play the lolis *slurp*
And plenty of room in prison cells for creeps like you.
Yeah I'm more worried about who they're gonna get to play Sena, I love the series, I'll be watching it for sure, I just don't want to see my favourite character destroyed.
this retard seriously thinks he can attract more people to the 2D world using 3D!? i think he's missing a few IQ marks.
Government: Excellent, this is our trap for filthy filthy pedos. >.>
a 2D movie would've been cooler, though it would have to be an original story line as the tv series has covered almost all of the LNs. Not super detailed of course, but it has covered 'em.
That meat....
He get downvote for no apparent reason.. I do agree with his point, a 2D movie will do much better than life action.
Helpful hint: it's "live action".
yeah, I think one of the major problems this movie has going for it is that its source material had already been adapted very well, so there's little left for it to do that hasn't already been done, and if it does go for something original, it probably won't be praised for it. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Incidentally, I really liked the Nana to Kaoru live action movie over the anime OVA. I found that the former adapted the manga's storyline extremely well, whereas the latter seemed to just be some random S&M venture with almost none of the characters' personalities shining through (notably, we only see Kaoru's dominant side, when in actuality it's just a facade and the guy's in constant disbelief that his one-sided crush childhood friend is approaching him with an apparent interest in this kind of stuff). So I guess it worked kinda in reverse to your proposed scenario, in which the anime's faithful and the live action just does its own thing.
Since this franchise has a very revealing title, the movie might be directed at people who don't have expectations stemming from the knowledge of the previously released works. A movie would have to be the most concise of them anyway.
Should have made an ANIME MOVIE
Second this opinion.
Maria-san and Kobato is tough to cast, unless they'd make em slightly older for the live-action.
Also, Hitomi Tanaka as Niku :D
blegh that woman is ugly breasts are okay though
Fuck no, Hitomi Tanaka has a butterface.
People seem to be throwing her name at every character who has anything more than a flat chest -_-' it's the rare instance where an "actress" would actually be too big for the roll of an animated character, lol
Oh noes, a movie I don't want to see will get released. What will I ever do?
Good for you, you just don't want to see it... I don't want it to ever exist, what will I do? ;__;
The funny thing is that even those that try to get it cancelled will still go and see it just to be able and whine more on forums.
There are still tiny chance it can turn good, like Samurai X life action. They are betting on that, I guess.
But most of the time, life action of anime sucks.. Gantz, Dragon Ball Evolution, The Legend of Chun-Li, The Last Airbender is recent life action that failed to be as good as their source.
nb4 "Avatar isn't anime!"
Actually, most of those examples you've listed are Hollywood adaptations. Japanese adaptations of Japanese media is usually.... well, it tends to be at the very least watchable in my honest opinion.
I thought Gantz was rather decent.
As live adaptations go, it wasn't bad at all.
DOA live is still one of my all time favorites.
- If you don't like it ignore it.
- Huh? What was that?
It is a simple logic, no watching the life action will lead to no piss off..
Still, it still bad if the life action sucks, because it still named Haganai, and once in a while when the topic Haganai anime discussed, the life action will be mention too..
Google it and get result of that, kinda like googling Dragon Ball and find Dragon Ball Evolution wiki, in which remind the traumatic experience with that movie..
Name that life action something else, so fans can forgive and forget the movie if it ever sucks. This is my suggestion if the author insist on life action.
>>It is a simple logic, no watching the life action will lead to no piss off..<<
Perhaps, if what makes it to the movie doesn't have to become part of the canon because of the expectations of the new followers - or a reverse influence on the author.
Same reaction everyone had with Tsukihime.
Stop making shit up.
Tsukihime Visual Novel is pretty popular and the manga is doing well, too. What the heck are you talking about?
It's unfortunate that they never made an anime for Tuskihime like Fate/Stay; that could have been awesome...
What you did there = I saw it.
