No Dragon ball, no Sailor Moon? BS!
It seems that many of the people who voted, thought that personal favourites/memorable anime = historical importance
another FAIL LIST!
Fail list? Crap list! This isn't even fail-worthy. WTF is this list?
In the beginning there was Tom Terrific, Fireball XL5 and Super Car.
After a long while Anime appeared from Mt Fuji.
triti
Also no Tenchi Muyo which defined the harem genera and did an over the top cosmic level final battle years before TTGL made it cool.
Gunbuster. Getter Robo. Mazinger. Ideon.
Sailor Moon? Yes, definitely. And Cutie Honey, as its spiritual predscessor.
Also loves to ignore the "parent series" that inspired most of these series to begin with..
The hell can you forget about Ideon when even Anno admitted he used a lot of it for Eva..
Yeah...
Hiatus x Hiatus
the work of Sailor Moon author's husband
No Pokemon either. xD
Maybe the first movie made more of an impact over there than the anime?
Also, I'm just kind of happy that people still remember CCS :3
i agree with sailor moon but for dragon ball, it only influences the manga developmentand we are talking about anime/movies now
I think if the manga was influential, than so was the anime.
railgun in number 3 is BS, even the 3 big shonens deserve it more than that, they are more historic cansidering that they begin around the 90's.and yeah, this list needs sailor moon, escaflowne, berserk, slam dunk and many others that should replace accel world and SAO
Sword Art Online and Accel World "Epoch making anime". HA
This list is far from balanced.
Look people, you don't have to like the titles to consider them epoch making anime.
But if you don't put Dragonball, Speed Racer, Ghost in the Shell, Naruto (yes, Naruto), Full Metal Alchemist, Ranma, One Piece, Love Hina, Azumanga Daioh, etc - and instead put titles from last year or so, the list is quite obviously full of crap.
For the record, I like all titles on the list. This does not make them "epoch making" though.
Dude, Railgun is on the list only because the new season was released a few weeks ago, people don't even have enough memory to recognize that Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei did stuff somewhat similar to Bakemonogatari with the same SHAFT style, at least in the parts that made both shows famous.
im a fan of railgun gun, but i gotta say it shouldnt even be on the list.
Dude, Shinbo already used the same style in Soul Taker and Tsukiyomi
he even used it in the Hentai "Seijun Kango Gakuin"
add Initial D
a lot of street racers all over the world are inspired by that.
Also, Captain Tsubasa
Many star football players are inspired by him
epoch making~~~
+
How about a little show called...
Sazae-san
It started in 1969..
NINETEEN-SIXTY-NINE!!!!!
And still airs Today! It changed children AND adults in small subtle ways that to This day still resonates.
+
I know how everyones be all into current and decades past shows, but asks yourselves this: How did it effect you outside of the place you stay in? Outside of online rantings, how does it change your outlook on life? Personally, I've been watching anime since the mid '80s. And have seen "epoch style" changes in Anime, but really they weren't really "epoch" in any way.
+
It was just boredom in one style of art work that shifted to another. Boredom and technological changes is as "epoch" as it gets. It also helps when the governmente "adults" aren't looking to allow deeper depths only seen on print to make it unto the boob-tube too~~~~~
Couldn't agree more, these youngsters wanna believe the anime they watch is close to being as inspired and infliuetial as works that were truly original or at least the pinnacle of their archetypes and were more of an artistic endeavor than a commercial one.
If you ask me these titles have no reason to habitate that list:
A Certain Scientific Railgun
Clannad After Story
Strike Witches
Sword Art Online
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Mushishi
Gurren Lagann
Ano Hana
Natsume’s Book of Friends
Clannad
Accel World
Angel Beats
Bakemnonogatari
That is not to say I dislike then, epoch making is not necessarily good, I think it's more indicative of influence on the industry, uniqueness and popularity.
So Naruto, Dragon Ball, GITS, Love Hina, Ranma, Azumanga Daioh, Rurouni Kenshin, Ninja Scroll, and probably some oldies like LOGH, Utena, Rose of Versailles should definitely be there...
Not having .hack//anything in this before SAO makes absolutely no sense, as the entire plot is basically a rehash.
As much as I like Railgun, I see it on the list and I'm all "lol no"
No Sailor Moon? WTF?
Sailor Moon
Dragon Ball
Nadia
Kino's Journey
Ninja Scroll
Ghost In The Shell
Vampire Hunter D
Grave of the Fireflies
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
Tenchi Muyo
Monster
Azumanga Daioh
FLCL
To be frank, I'm not even a fan of all of those that I listed, but most of them have had a much greater impact on the industry or are more worthy of remembering than at least half of what is on the list above.
Those are all good anime.
Not sure I agree that "Kino's Journey" was influential though. It seems more like a one-off.
Ghibli movies are interesting. They are incredibly good and popular, and make lots of money, but they don't seem to influence the industry very much beyond a couple other filmmakers like Mamoru Hosoda.
But mostly this list seems reasonable.
They seem to act as markers for what ideas are popular at the time.
They cause small shifts in what people seem to look for but not much in game changers.
Things like Evangelion that popularized a weak hero and heavy story lines and themes seem to be game changers.
Things like Gundam that define a genera or Sailor Moon that left a clear mark on their respective genres deserve to be on the list.
slam dunk, captain tsubasa maybe
You did miss
A K I R A
I didn't list Akira because it was already listed in the original list.
I was just mentioning some of the more painfully obvious absentees.
Chupale Pls...
Influential and good are different things.
i'll put sailor moon #1 just for chibiusa
Without Sailor Moon we wouldn't have magical girls these days.
Actually, there were shows like Minky Momo and Mahoutsukai Sally long, long before Sailor Moon. Even if we just considered the more action-oriented mahou shoujo series, as Anon 4:05 already stated, that was preceded by Cutey Honey.
If we didn't have Cutey Honey we wouldnt have Sailor Moon.
Without Sailor Moon we wouldn't have sentai style magical girls like Precure series. Before Sailor Moon a magical girl series usually consisted of only one girl and many of them didn't fight physically (Cutie Honey being the exception of course) but with magic. Sailor Moon established the formula of sentai mixed with mahou shoujo which forever changed the genre.
And without Sally the Witch we wouldn't have Cutey Honey, lol.
if we didn't have fanboys we wouldn't have problems
Sailor Moon is only popular in the US and some European countries. I think it's one of the few japanese shows that got so many episodes only because it did so well outside Japan. No one in Japan even remembers it, lol.
And Majokko Meg-chan
Magical girls were around before Sailor Moon. A more accurate way to describe it would be "Without Sailor Moon we wouldn't have magical warrior girls.
Without Sailor Moon, we'd have been stuck with some shitty yaoi (swimming) animes.
Where is Sailor Moon?
Fuck yeah Neon Genesis Evangelion 1#
Best-MotherFuck-day ever!!!!!
I love K-ON!. A lot. But epic is not a word I would use about anything "slice of life" story. I would replace it with Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040.
I absolutely agree with you bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 and add GITS = Ghost in the Shell movie and tv series SAC
Railgun? K-ON? No, just NO!!!
K-On!'s ok with me, but Railgun is just an Index-Spin-off consisting of nothing but filler.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakout_character
That's because series 1's manga ran out of manga material at episode 14, and then the rest were filler episodes and original stories.
The Railgun S that's airing now is what should had been season 2. Just pretend the original season 2 (episode 15-26) never happened.
As much as I don't like K-ON you'll have to admit this anime kind of marked the "rise to power" of "Moe-Blob" type of anime...
No, it didn't. It just was the pinnacle of moeblob (until now). Others paved the path for K-On.
Agreed. It was "Air" in Jan 2005 that paved the way for Kyoto's run of high-cost, high-production-value bishoujo anime. It should be higher, and "K-on" lower.
Who the hell down-voted you? I thought you were making a great point. While it's true that K-ON! did spark a huge following, it hardly started the rise in moe marketing. Did everyone just forget shows like Haruhi and Nanoha existing a good few years prior to K-ON!'s existence? Though, if any one show could be credited for it all, that would probably be AIR.
after bishoujo, now is bishounen era
Azumanga did moe blob before K-ON.
K-On is really an epoch making anime, it started the era of moe.
Personally, I didn't mind railgun because it was entertaining. That said, I thought K-ON was the worst piece of crap that the anime industry could handle. No actual story or plot development. As a character driven story, they were all flat characters and even the humor wasn't that great. For me it only lasted 4 episodes before I couldn't take it anymore.
Actually, I would agree that Railgun doesn't belong on there. It's still fairly recent and, at least so far as I know, doesn't seem to have sparked some massive, industry-shifting standards in the time it has been around.
Mind you, I liked Railgun.... though, I didn't think it matched up to Index (the first season, anyway). And in case anyone asks, my opinion on K-ON! is rather mixed: don't hate it, have a guilty pleasure for cuteness, but do think it's been over-hyped a tad much (especially in that it was flaunting the KyoAni name).
You must be God tier because I turned that shit off about a minute into the first episode and never looked back!
wheres Aku no Hana on the list ?
It hasn't even gotten halfway through the series yet, there is no way it can be called a masterpiece when it's 4 episodes in. Just because you like something doesn't mean that it's worthy of something before everything else so please keep your head out of you're ass.
Internet:
A) Sarcasm doesn't come through.
B) It is as stupid as you think it is.
Pick one.
Or maybe you can't read sarcasm? There's a thought.
