Every time I see these comparisons, you say "Blu-ray is shown on the left" but the RIGHT PIC is always the sexier cleaner stronger looking one in terms of colors and booty?
You clearly don't understand what quality means
Yeah, the right pic may look brighter and more colorful, while the left looks so dull. But watch carefully these:

The details on the brighter (darker) areas are all washed out (burnt out) and therefore indistinguishable. This means the dynamic range of the TV images are all fucked up, even though they may look better. Didn't bother to measure, but this seems the result of an incorrect RGB (full 0-255 range) YUV (limited 16-235 range) conversion on the TV side. Wonder if it was intentional to push BD sales, or someone is too idiot to do his job correctly...
It could also be the TV ripper is at fault here, but this would mean the broadcast is done with a YUV full range, which is highly unlikely.

looking at the color histogram, the left image has a bigger diffirentiation between colours in the light and dark ranges. in 28 for example the peak of dark colours is in [0,15] on the right, and [15,46] on the left. so even though it has twice the dynamic range, some retard fucked up the encoding and cut off the blacks and whites (although most screens cant display colurs with gray level below 10-20 or so because of the backlighting anyway, so it might be to reduce the filesize)
Anyway, i still agree with you, the right image is cleaner. I dont care about dynamic range if it is washed out.

it clearly looks closer to the left side picture, which lets me conclude that the left side is the TV Version and the author of this article is right-out lying
