Speculation as to the identity of Kyoto Animation’s upcoming mystery anime continues to rage, with ardent Photoshoppists having managed to convincingly ram the bodies of Full Metal Panic’s heroes into the provided silhouettes, convincing many that they may yet be spared a hot male high school swimming team anime.
Whether sexy swimmers or FMP, it seems at least some fans will be happy – as long as it is not another season of Tamako Market…
The full announcement is due on the 26th.

Oh yes. let it be FMP.
And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree
There will be an answer
Let it be
For though they may be parted
There is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer
Let it be
Better not.. FMP continuation suckz, because there isn't any "military freak in school"-comedy going on anymore.
It's K-On!
Bonta-kun ll be back! ~fumo!
"as long as it is not another season of Tamako Market"
That statement does not bode well for me.
I've heard of Tamako Market but never watched it, is it good?
Compared to KyoAni's recent animes (Hyouka, Chuunibyou), It's just plain boring.
The weakest "cutesy" KyoAni anime yet. I can boldly say it's even weaker than K-On.
... I don't think that's such a bold thing to say. Tamako Market was a genuinely bad series. I guess someone might think it's great if their only criteria for greatness in an anime is good animation and cute characters to appease their loli fetishes.
Let the man be bold
It's mainly because I thought that K-On is also sort of weak. The 1st season was okay, but by the 2nd it became a chore to me to finish.
Tamako Market is bad? In what way? It's just a cute and funny slice of life show, that's all it was trying to be, and it did that pretty damn decently in my opinion. Just because it's not your kind of humor doesn't mean the show is automatically a bad show.
Anyway, if this did indeed turn out to be more FMP (which it probably won't), that would be amazingly awesome.
@Anon 04:55 who says that I watch solely for the humor?
Being a Slice of Life doesn't excuse you from the story. I'm calling it bad, because it's not on par with KyoAni's standard. Compared to recent past KyoAni anime like Hyouka and Chuunibyou, Tamako Market IS bad. To be harsh it fails to be a good Slice of life.
Not like Hyouka, which was a detective type anime, and Chuunibyou which has great drama, Tamako can't even focus. It's not even random slice of life, like Lucky Star. It tries to have a plot but never seem to fully understand which plot to take. Remember where Dera chooses a Bride and then the Prince, introduced at the start and forgotten till the latest episodes.
According to MAL alone, it has the weakest rating from all other recent KyoAni animes
Going with Bluray/DVD sales at 18th-25th of March, the 1st volume only ranked 29th at 617 projected sales (DVD), while Chuunibyou the 4th Volume ranked at 8th with 10,933 (bluray) and 1522 (DVD)
tl;dr
TAMAKO MARKET is BAD by KyoAni's Standard.
I won't say Tamako Market was bad....but it seriously wasn't particulary good either. It has it's fans.
But, it has alot less fans than any Kyoani show in recent years.
It has quite a few people who down right dislike it (like me).
I watched 4 episodes before I gave up on it. I don't want those precious minutes of my life I spent watching it back.....but I seriously didn't want to waste anymore.
I am a little curious to see what the disc sales of it are, as compared to say, any of there previous 3 shows before it.
Whatever makes a yen for them is better chances of more Animation coming out on TV and Blu-ray.
Nope, it was bad.
It was utter shit, and alas it old a shiity as the moeshit it was FLOP
Episode 9. If you plan on watching any other episodes, watch this one. Well, you do need a little background info though.
And what if...
They're planning genderbent Tamako OVA?
there was one episode with a loli's peach way in the air, thats about the best it got.
Kashim, is that you?
I'd lose my shit if it's FMP, been wanting a sequel to TSR for years. Only thing I'm worried about is A Dancing Very Merry Christmas is pretty short, but I don' think they can go straight into Continuing On My Own.
they have got to make a fumoffu #2.
But the main heroine is a slut... we can't have sluts in the industry!
NO PUTITAS!!!
since this was only speculation why not imagine something crazier, like straight into the end of the storiy just because they have godliek mechas there.
Remake that goes to the very end, like Brotherhood.
Full Metal Panic - Orphanhood. It could happen :3
They should just finish it until Zutto Stand by me.
wait..what?
I too will aboslutely scream if it's FMP.
But I'm not holding my breath. it's probably the sausage swim fest.../sigh
If it is FMP!, my hope in the anime industry will be returned, and to this blog too.
You forget the chances of it being absolutely horrible, ruining FMP and anime for all eternity...at least for all the creepy otaku. Me, I hope it will be FMP but I don't really mind if it's not... If it was continuation of fumoffu however, then I'd cry manly tears...
sadly i think this is more likely...Even if they continued fumoffu i feel like they would probably just fuck it up at this point
If it is FMP, it would have meme that rivals gajin 4 komas.
As much ass I like it to be FMP, I must reply with this link, cause IMO it looks pretty good :D
http://tinyurl.com/cmawaoy
are you trying to imply that tamako isn't extremely popular and well loved?
yeah, it bombed in dvd/bd sales. kyoani is probably looking for a change of air to gain that money back.
they need to be hit harder so shitty kyoinai downlevel moeshit
IF ITS FMP ALL HAIL KYOANY!!!! !!!, been waiting for years for the sequel!
I watched black lagoon and FMP about 2 years ago and thought both those series were freakin awesome! what i don't understand is there's more than enough material to make another season of FMP not so much black lagoon, yet no studio takes up the mantel and produces a new season. also its the same for the Melancholy of haruhi suzumiya. they could make like 2 more seasons from the light novels that have been put out plus a couple more episodes like they did with "someday in the rain" for there last episode.
There's a lot of extra stuff in the light novels for FMP so tons more content. I'm hoping it might move forward enough for us to see the leviathan - ARX8 after the arbalest.
Why is there even speculation about what this will be?
FMP? Definitely not. Source is too old = no sales promotion for novels. Sure there are new FMP LNs, but a continuation would adapt old volumes, which most fans already own. Animating new volumes = skipping content = only fans and readers watch, otherwise new people would have to buy all LNs of the original novel to follow the story, which is 'unprofitable' (in a sense)/unrealistic.
K-On won't get another season, Nichijou didn't sell enough (IIRC), Tamako just finished, Chuunibyou will get a second season in the future.
This leaves only completely new shows. The swimsuit thing and 'Kyoukai no Kanata' are options. As has been said before, the swimsuit thing was fanservice for women / gag / commercial for something(?). Most likely only women would watch this, if it turns out to be about 'cute/hot bishounen doing cute things' = bad sales + reviews -> unlikely
Also... the picture depicts TWO people, not a group of guys. AND by looking at the outlines, one can see them wearing clothes (Sure, the swimmers won't be in pantsu all the time)
Sooo... summed up, I am absolutely confident this will be either 'Kyoukai no Kanata' or something completely new. As the cover features a guy and girl and seems to be a more serious show, the best bet is 'Kyoukai no Kanata', which already has a teaser and fits the bill.
You neglected to explain why it won't be Haruhi.
Yep, I noticed that after posting my comment.
About Haruhi: it would promote sales for the novels, though most Japanese fans already own the novels. BD sales would be great, though (as long as KyoAni don't repeat Endless 8, which is unlikely). What negates the possibility of a third season is the cover.
The person on the right has a similar haircut to Koizumi, the left one resembles Kyon. But, would they have a cover featuring Koizumi? And no Haruhi on it?
The right person also looks too slim for Koizumi; left one appears to wear a collared jacket or muffler... not sure. Though I am certain neither of them wears the Haruhi school uniform^^
This time I shouldn't have forgotten anything. Still saying: Kyoukai no Kanata OR completely new project ;)
Ah, now all my comments showed up.. doesn't matter anymore.
Sooo.... it truly will be the swimming bishounen. The moment I saw the news I burst into laughing. This is absolutely hilarious! Not only does this shatter the hopes of FMP fans... this is.. I can't find the words, so I won't say more.
I truly believed that if this weren't a redundant 'Kyoukai no Kanata' announcement (posed as a secret project, meant to surprise those who haven't heard of the planned adaption), at least it would be a completely new anime, but the yaoi swimmers... just wow
Because Aya Hirano.
indeed, dirty filthy slut
Pretty sure no one outside of Sankaku Complex and the deepest, darkest sewers of 2chan cares about Aya Hirano's sex life.
My reply to this hasn't been posted for some reason, so I'll try to repost.
The silhouette on the left could be Kyon (similar hair), but my only guess for the person on the right would be Koizumi (no one else has a similar haircut). I haven't read the novels, but I doubt Koizumi would get that much attention to be THAT important in a sequel. Also, why should Koizumi be on a promotional artwork/cover, whereas the titular heroine HARUHI is not?
Aya Hirano doesn't matter in this discussion, because either they'd hire her again or simply change to a different seiyuu, not that big a deal... (Otaku hate those changes, but if it's a scandalous actress, they'd be happy).
Finally, sales... as long as they don't repeat something like Endless 8, it will be a hit. On the other hand LN sales won't get much of a boost, as there haven't been new Haruhi releases for quite some time and most fans already own the existing material. Boosting sales of the source material is what adaptions are made for (in most cases).
-A rumor in August 2012 said KyoAni was working on FMP.
-A new FMP manga started serializing in December 2012
-The host of the announcement program is Hisanori Yoshida, an announcer for Nippon Broadcasting which is part of the same company as Fuji TV.
-Fuji TV was the main TV sponsor/primary broadcaster for Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu
-Fumoffu aired August 26, 2003 as KyoAni's first self TV production.
source? search it yourself.
Do you remember Munto? it was a project that had "on-hold" too yet after few successful shows they made Munto reboot. They didn't expected it to be hit, didnt expected to earn lots of money. Now that they had some successful projects again, it is a perfect time for FMP.
This unlikely will be Kyoukai no Kanata. there is no reason to make such a hype over anime that is already known to be worked on. This will be _announcement_, Kyoukai no Kanata already announced!
This is whatever FMP or something we never heard before.
Though it had many faults, I actually liked Munto. I don't know how it sold (most likely rather bad), but most people who have seen it were either disappointed or 'only liked' Munto. Despite KyoAni being well known and praised, Munto is an anime many have never even heard of.
Back to the topic... it's not that I don't like the idea of a FMP project, I'm just realistic :(
Also, the art-style of those silhouettes is absolutely unlike FMP (unless they drop their old style) AND who should it portray? Neither of those two look like Sousuke and DEFINITELY NOT Tessa or Chidori... other characters wouldn't make sense.
[Some people want it to be FMP and desperately cling to their wish. In the end they end up disappointed. Hoping is not a bad thing, but that's not how the world and this particular industry work. Should this truly turn out to be FMP, I'd accept that the anime industry might get out of its slump]
Realistically speaking, from the cover alone I'd rather say it's the yaoi swimmers than FMP... which is truly saddening
IN short more moecrapshit for te moeatards, sounds about right.
