With the hugely popular art of Naruko Hanaharu and the storytelling skill of Butch Gen, mecha anime Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet has a lot of promise to live up to – fortunately it would seem it is having no trouble in doing just that, as the 1st episode has been exceptionally well received.

you try beating a moon sized, constantly regenerating plant with plasma roots that destroy everything in one shot.

The matter for that regeneration has to come from somewhere. Considering the flower didn't have a notable gravity field, it's safe to say there wasn't that much mass to it. Assuming somewhat realistic physics apply, enough explosive solutions should eventually wear it down as it runs out of the resources it needs to regenerate.

I once saw a duck turn into an accordion from having an anvil dropped on it. That means all American artists can't tell apart biology from musical instruments.

Yeah, I know you were joking. But then so were the animators.

    @10:37
You can't generate the energy of the sun, unless you have 2 metric tons of anti matter to burn. Per second. And if you had that much compact fuel, you can just make it into bombs and utterly obliterate entire regions of space where the enemy army used to be.

Breast physics? Breasts powered by the sun? Wait.. what???

    10:37 09/04/2013 # ! Neutral (0)

I think the energy source is what they were trying to attack. With the size of it and it's regenerating ability it probably has a source of power equivalent to a sun or more so in order to make it run out of energy they would probably need at least equivalent resources which would be a massive undertaking and unlikely to happen. That is why they were trying to break through to attack the power source which would have ended the war or at least the battle.

If you can get a tractor beam close enough to that thing without wasting half of our population of Earth (Current at 7B) and the resources to match...

I would call you a tactical master.
Remember, that thing is also acting as a shield from destructive radiation from that sun, so you can only attack it from the front (in the 'shadow' so to speak.

    Good luck.

That's why once you are space fairing you're supposed to spread out as far and to as many worlds as possible because if your population mostly remains on a single planet you're just asking to get exterminated.
Killer space flowers are not needed just a big rock on a collision course would do and if large enough would be every bit as durable if not more so.

In some ways space colonies collectively would be a few orders of power more secure then Earth even though each individual colony is less secure then a planet.

    1) its in teh future, but the army's tatics are very primitive
    2) we have wormhole technology, but we only use it to teleport
    3) why didn't we just use the wormholes to drop a sun ontop of that planet sized flower? i'm sure nukes at that stage would be sufficient to become individual suns.
    4) anime intergalatic battles = epic fail as always
    5) GUNDAM STOP SUCKING SO HARD @ SPACE WARFARE!
    6) hitch hiker's guide to the galaxy is awesome.

Yah that would be one way or just feed it some antimatter or a really big nuke and watch it explode.
They're always kinda dumb in these shows and miss the obvious.

Another way to kill it get some small asteroids put engines on them or use a ship and a tractor beam and accelerate them towards it to a good fraction of the speed of light.
Doesn't matter if it blows up the asteroids the incoming high speed plasma would still be very destructive to it.

"really big nuke" They tried. They also had some dimensional warping, instant death attack. You think throwing rocks at it would work? How would they accelerate them to the speed of light? Humanity here seems to be somewhat short of energy (at least in ships and mechs). They need to pull an Exelion.

@Rya a 300 meter asteroid traveling at a fraction of c even just 1% will make the lasers seen here look like an air rifle compared to the main guns of an Iowa class battle ship.
We're talking millions of megatons here.

As for energy why not put solar power satellites around that conveniently located star and then attach lasers and mass drivers the size of skyscrapers to them and solve two problems at once.
No more energy woes and get a defense gird that can rip something to shreds from over an astronomical unit away.

I guess I read too many Western scifi books like those by Larry Niven.

It's neat how an artist in japan who has drawings of lolis drenched in cum can get a job being an animator on a tv series and people are looking forward to his excellent art style. If someone here in the west tried that there'd be public outcry and the series would probably be canned.

I'm not complaining about his art. It's just funny the cultural difference.
