Freeter dark lord anime Hataraku Maou-sama looks to be the surprise hit of the season – despite hardly being noticed, let alone anticipated, prior to its airing, its first episode has attracted much praise (and also some criticism for “raping” the original novel)…
Testament to the fact nobody hitherto expected anything from a show about burger-flippers, next to no art has so far surfaced:

I was pleasantly surprised by this show.
I went into this show expecting nothing. I came out of it laughing my ass off.
Same here, I downloaded it for the heck of it, but I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did.
i like the manga but the anime had me rolling :)
I Concur.
One of the best animes this season!
you can't say "the best this season" since they haven't aired all the shows for this season yet. the only thing you can say is "one of the better one's this season."
And it's first ep.
Quality drop by ep 3 at latest.
stop that
Honestly, I find the fat purple-haired woman to be better than any of those useless male characters.
The pretty girls and that fat woman are definitely better than those bland, boring, generic dudes.
It's actually refreshing to see a character that isn't trying to be cute and/or attractive.
then why dont you just kill her... i mean onanate to her?
The landlord looks like a Ghibli character.
Yeah that's what I thought as well and to be exact, The Witch of The Waste from Howl's Moving Castle.
Damn, can't wait for the next episode.
Its really damn good.
It wasnt that it was surprisingly good its pv lead it on to be less story and more comedy than one would expect. It being good was quite obvious!
Wow i just picked up the manga today, This must be fate.
I always knew Satan read manga.
I liked it, but it seems to be moving much too fast in my opinion already. Adjusting to a new world isn't as short as it was. Would of liked a scene of them trying to learn Japanese as well.
I liked it. Made me laugh a few times.
KATSUDUUN !
such a strong word ...
lol @Ashiya glomping the mighty katsuduun in the interrogation room
I liked it. Hope it gets good reviews and alot of viewers.
At the moment they are a bit terse and unspecific, though.
Katsu-DUM!!!
A favorite of the Uruk-Hai.
Looks good, but I could swear I've seen those characters in other animes.
main char looks almost exactly like saito from Zero no tsukaima, and Kirito from sao.
The MC reminds me of Rin Okumura from Blue Exorcist. I immediately thought of him.
I never found out what language they were trying to emulate in it(for the demon lord). Anyone that got an idea?
Sounds like they made it up on the spot. When they spoke similar words at different times, it sounded very different.
They learnt from Vlad from Magicka. Expect magical mishap soon.
threat level exceeds anticipation.
restarting system......
restarting system....
your system has been restarted.
happy now
They're starting to sound like Hollywood. They think raping the original story is an improvement.
How exactly does this raep the source material ?
I would also like to know this. I opened the full entry hoping for an elaboration of the summary, but instead just screenshot after screenshot of the episode I've already seen... hmm.
If the original work has left-out or different parts which are even better, I'd definitely like to know.
Mainly, though, I'm hoping that this gets further than the manga and shows something significant happening other than 'Working!, but they're all from a different world! No, really!'. The behaviour gap may be a source of humour, but it is also frustrating. Very pleasing if, for example, they eventually /do/ find a way of using magic (at least to some replenishable extent) in that world... *hope*
Yeah, well, welcome to Sankaku :/
nice, maou reaction when he got pay rise for 100 yen make me laugh, well such amount pay rise actually able to make someone happy
The manga was good, if the anime sucked I'd be surprised... They haven't made another "tsukihime" mistake for a while
Aku no hana
finally a good anime that doesnt rely on fan service to make it popular
But if it did have fanservice, I bet you wouldn't be calling the fanservice "a cherry on top", but rather you'd be saying that the anime relys on fanservice and that it isn't good to begin with. Such is the true case with most "anime fans" and ecchi anime, smh.
