GDC 2013 sees Kojima and company announcing the next full title in the Metal Gear series – Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, for PS3 and Xbox 360.
So far only a trailer and not much else has been released, Kojima being almost as good as tantalising release shenanigans as he is as designing hit games:
A new engine is promised as a major feature – although with both platforms now being hopelessly obsolete the developer’s promises of “photorealism” ring more than a little hollow.

I RIKE IT!
Don't get your hype too high, the game is announced for the lowly 360, set the graphics aside, the game now is limited to 8 gigabytes of DATA.
So goo graphics means less features, no audio options and lame-short game, beating a 60$ game on less than 10 hours is crap.
I beat MGS1 in less than 3 hours, MGS4 in less than 5 hours (The Boss Extreme difficulty, Big Boss emblem achieved :P) ...expect this to be finished in 8 - 10 hours (or less) for the fastest player
(I forgot how much time needed for me to finish MGS 2 and 3)
Multiple disk games are possible, see: FFXIII, Forza 3's install disk.
They WERE possible, not anymore, companies don't want to spend more coin than necessary to publish and sell their crappy, underdeveloped games.
Last time I checked, this isn't crappy or underdeveloped. This is Metal Gear Solid V, give it some credit.
So could you please tell me again how long the actual 'playing' part of MGS4 was?
A little less than 20 hours, less if not counting cinemas and even less if you already know the game.
I smelled PS3 fanboy. GTFO Castian!
So you're saying MGS1 2 and 3 were garbage because they were on inferior systems? I guess your have no faith in Kojima, Shame. I for one will be looking forward to buying this one for the 360 because i missed out on 4.
Sooo you mean graphics is everything? Its a MGS game!!! The story !! the charcater!!!!!
Right, because 10cent disk is too expensive to produce. You're an idiot.
Because Gaming DVDs, printing, coding, watermarking, packing and box art overall, costs more tan 10 cents.
Or do they sell you a blank disc, no box, no manual and on a "Somy" disc?
Idiot people are idiot.
Yes, but in this case, we are talking about the marginal cost of putting in one or two more disc, which only mean that the box needs to be the type that holds more than one disc, those are made of plastic so the cost isn't that much, the DVD, plus the sticker, all of which should cost that much more. Of all the things they would consider, that would probably be the least costly.
What is this fake snake? Snake's beginging? Reject snake? Two Phantoms? Is this talking about the two Snakes?
ME RIKEY!!!
XD
I don't know what to say this may be the first game I wanted in a long time yet Its also like escaping a hospital feels OLD :) Well I do look forward to this
"A new engine is promised as a major feature – although with both platforms now being hopelessly obsolete the developer’s promises of “photorealism” ring more than a little hollow."
Kojima did mention awhile back that the Fox engine is able to scale up to the newer consoles. The demo being played on at today's GDC event was on the PC. So in technical terms it wouldn't be that hard to port for people who did get the PS4 or the Xbox next-gen system.
I'll just get it on PC: Since Ground Zeroes is confirmed to be a sort of prequel to The Phantom Pain, we can assume they'll both be on PC, and that's where the Fox engine will really shine.
So you buy it again for replay 5 years from now. Genius.
I agree. But anons are forgetting that the best way to prove your engine's capabilities is to release a game on a constrained environment (last gen consoles) while keeping the graphics, particles, etc, competitive with new consoles (PS4 and it's launch games).
Then, release another game using the same engine on the new consoles that whoop the established perceptions of it's capabilities, creating hype.
All that eye-candy and visual improvement becomes an eye-sore, considering it's currently only being released for the 360 and PS3 (even tho, supposedly all that was being rendered in real-time on a PC). If they really wanted to show off the Fox Engine, they should've *also* release it for the PC.
IT actually IS conformed for the PC.
Remember the FOX Engine is designed so they can make multi-platform releases. It should look good no matter what system it's on.
Spent all your cash so you can boast about your bigger e-dick which is your PC, now butt hurt cuz you still get no games (the girls) LOL
Pathetic sad little pecker LOL
..... or ,y'know, cuz they might like to play games on their pc
The target demographic excludes the PC.
This makes any pro-PC argument moot.
Well, the fact is PCs are more powerful. Feels like a waste that nobody's interested in using that power.
Money and ease of access. That's why social and mobile gaming is huge.
Sure they are. They're using the power of obsolete 7 years old PCs, aka, consoles.
What.. what the fuck did you try to say?
What... what the fuck did you try to troll??
I spend 1000€ on my pc 300€ on my audio system and over 700€ on my wacom, screen, keyboard, mouse. 2000€ isn't bad at all compared to what i can do with my pc.
2000€ is easy enough to save. 4 months of work and save 500€ every month.
hes a rich japanese otaku wannabe living with his parents, rich get rich by being frugal :)
wtf is a wacom?
Some people work for less than 500$ a month you stupid brat.
What... what the fuck did you try to say?
What... what the fuck did you try to troll?
Does it matter ?
no thanks (directed to pc version)
Dem polygons.
you guys and your grafic jibber jabber... seriously, since when is METAL GEAR SOLID about grafic? games are about having fun and/or experiencing all the emotions, up and downs, literally living every moment of the game! if you want super grafic go and watch Tv you will get the most realistic grafic of all :D I still cant forget the moment when I put bullet through Wolfs head after sniper match or how I had to plug joystick in slot 2 in oder to see Mantis.. I mean, come on! its not the stupid grafic that makes MGS so amazing :)
You are mostly dealing with PC fans... You know, the first ones to jump in and say "graphics are not important" AND THEN brag about how PC is "superior to every other platform in every sense".
Yes, ...
looks boring kojima should retire like that ceo from square enix =D
The last I heard (and many times before the last, in fact), Kojima wanted to stop working on the MGS series, but they sort of didn't let him. Which is why the series becomes more bizarre as it continues - he is literally trying to spite them enough for them to stop "encouraging" him to continue working on it.
You don't have to play it you f'ing retard.
Why don't YOU retire your life?
The fuck is wrong with you that you can't understand a joke and suggest, rather rudely, that he should commit suicide?
This looks very interesting. I am looking forward to playing it.
i can die happy after i play this game
We'll never get another David Hayter performance though... feels kind of bad.
Maybe Big Boss will be voiced by the guy who did him in Guns of the Patriots. Richard Doyle.
The Phantom Pain looks like it sets up events that happened in the original Metal Gear games; this could mean that David will be voicing a young Solid Snake.
If so, you still shouldn't expect him to confirm it; voice actors(and all the other employees/contractors) for big-franchises often have to sign non-disclosure agreements to keep them from spoiling the game.
