GDC 2013 sees Kojima and company announcing the next full title in the Metal Gear series – Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, for PS3 and Xbox 360.
So far only a trailer and not much else has been released, Kojima being almost as good as tantalising release shenanigans as he is as designing hit games:
A new engine is promised as a major feature – although with both platforms now being hopelessly obsolete the developer’s promises of “photorealism” ring more than a little hollow.

The new engine is not a *feature*.. it is what runs the game..
It's like saying air is a feature of being alive, it is there regardless.
I'd argue that having a new engine as opposed to the same engine that ran the previous game counts as a "feature." A car requires an engine to be functional so it's "there regardless," but there are different car engines with different capabilities. Same thing.
You're pointing out basic common sense on a site what has consistently godawful "journalism".
Not meaning to insult you or anything as you're clearly right, but just saying.
You're definitely right about the godawful "journalism".
"Feature: a prominent or conspicuous part or characteristic."

I'd say the new engine is definitely a feature, as MGSV basically exists to advertise it for future development use.
A fish would like to have a word with you, sir.
i can die happy after i play this game
Could be intresting
Dem polygons.
We'll never get another David Hayter performance though... feels kind of bad.
Maybe Big Boss will be voiced by the guy who did him in Guns of the Patriots. Richard Doyle.
The Phantom Pain looks like it sets up events that happened in the original Metal Gear games; this could mean that David will be voicing a young Solid Snake.
If so, you still shouldn't expect him to confirm it; voice actors(and all the other employees/contractors) for big-franchises often have to sign non-disclosure agreements to keep them from spoiling the game.
"A new engine is promised as a major feature – although with both platforms now being hopelessly obsolete the developer’s promises of “photorealism” ring more than a little hollow."
Kojima did mention awhile back that the Fox engine is able to scale up to the newer consoles. The demo being played on at today's GDC event was on the PC. So in technical terms it wouldn't be that hard to port for people who did get the PS4 or the Xbox next-gen system.
I agree. But anons are forgetting that the best way to prove your engine's capabilities is to release a game on a constrained environment (last gen consoles) while keeping the graphics, particles, etc, competitive with new consoles (PS4 and it's launch games).
Then, release another game using the same engine on the new consoles that whoop the established perceptions of it's capabilities, creating hype.
I'll just get it on PC: Since Ground Zeroes is confirmed to be a sort of prequel to The Phantom Pain, we can assume they'll both be on PC, and that's where the Fox engine will really shine.
So you buy it again for replay 5 years from now. Genius.
This looks very interesting. I am looking forward to playing it.
Is it going to be better than previous one?
Hopefully, this time it is not a 50 hour movie.
Hopefully this time it's a 60 hour movie.
hahahaha gg, I agree
OMG stop using the One Piece name cuz you clearly don't get it
MGS IS all about the story same as One Piece
A retarded comment coming from a name like that really is a disgrace to both One Piece and MGS
One Piece sucks
I FUCKING AGREE!!! XD
One Piece just you go die
Saw "A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME"...
Already hyped without seen anything else.
Kidding me? I thought it was missing the letters U and S. "A HIDEOUS KOJIMA GAME"
kojima is your god
Yet another game I'll never play. Not that I care.
Then why even comment?
Someone has to, why not them?
He's just tsundere about the game. He'll be playing it...
I-it's not like I want to play it or anything. B-baka!
I RIKE IT!
I don't know what to say this may be the first game I wanted in a long time yet Its also like escaping a hospital feels OLD :) Well I do look forward to this
ME RIKEY!!!
XD
Don't get your hype too high, the game is announced for the lowly 360, set the graphics aside, the game now is limited to 8 gigabytes of DATA.
So goo graphics means less features, no audio options and lame-short game, beating a 60$ game on less than 10 hours is crap.
So could you please tell me again how long the actual 'playing' part of MGS4 was?
A little less than 20 hours, less if not counting cinemas and even less if you already know the game.
I smelled PS3 fanboy. GTFO Castian!
Multiple disk games are possible, see: FFXIII, Forza 3's install disk.
They WERE possible, not anymore, companies don't want to spend more coin than necessary to publish and sell their crappy, underdeveloped games.
Last time I checked, this isn't crappy or underdeveloped. This is Metal Gear Solid V, give it some credit.
Right, because 10cent disk is too expensive to produce. You're an idiot.
Because Gaming DVDs, printing, coding, watermarking, packing and box art overall, costs more tan 10 cents.
Or do they sell you a blank disc, no box, no manual and on a "Somy" disc?
Idiot people are idiot.
Yes, but in this case, we are talking about the marginal cost of putting in one or two more disc, which only mean that the box needs to be the type that holds more than one disc, those are made of plastic so the cost isn't that much, the DVD, plus the sticker, all of which should cost that much more. Of all the things they would consider, that would probably be the least costly.
What is this fake snake? Snake's beginging? Reject snake? Two Phantoms? Is this talking about the two Snakes?
So you're saying MGS1 2 and 3 were garbage because they were on inferior systems? I guess your have no faith in Kojima, Shame. I for one will be looking forward to buying this one for the 360 because i missed out on 4.
Sooo you mean graphics is everything? Its a MGS game!!! The story !! the charcater!!!!!
I beat MGS1 in less than 3 hours, MGS4 in less than 5 hours (The Boss Extreme difficulty, Big Boss emblem achieved :P) ...expect this to be finished in 8 - 10 hours (or less) for the fastest player
(I forgot how much time needed for me to finish MGS 2 and 3)
