Hailstones “the size of chicken eggs” have fallen on southern China, killing 9 people and injuring a further 272 in unusually deadly weather even for China.
According to reports, southern coastal and inland regions experienced a convergence of cold winds from the north and warm winds from the south-west, resulting in gale force winds and intense rain storms.
A hail storm featuring unusually large hailstones and lasting some 10 to 20 minutes also ensued, smashing roofs and windows, and killing at least 9 people, with 272 reporting injuries of one kind or another.
Strong winds also took their toll, causing power outages and blowing over houses, killing a further 3.
Whilst gigantic hail is far from unheard of and has long been a staple for journals of Forteana, injuries – let alone deaths – are unusual and this probably marks the most severe such hail ever recorded.

They then exploded...
"Yes, they deserve to die! I hope they burn in hail!"
These were PM 2.5... But centimeters.
More like inches.

In Russia, it's raining meteorites, guy. Nothing unusual here.
lol really ?
Don't know why somebody downvoted this guy, he simply speaks the truth. :-/ To whoever downvoted him, didn't they cover the recent meteorite strike in Russia on the TV channels in your country? The damn thing landed smack in the middle of populated areas, and caused quite a bit of damage...
It so happens I'm from the city 100km away from the city that meteor fell on. Even from here I've seen meteor trail, a flash and a loud bang. Shit's scary man, I really thought it was nuclear missile from China or USA at first glance and got ready to die. Phew. Even now there's rumors it was really a missile, covered up as a meteor by media, but I know it's a bullshit.
And the U.S. admitted humanity is powerless against meteorites since all military radars are focused on surface-born threats (planes, missiles), while Russians already drafted plans involving recalibration of modern SAMs to install countermeasures against future meteorite threats of similar kind.

Feels like youtube.
No big deal. There are even raining man..
I'm surprised they didn't try to cook them like they did with that "mythical mushroom" awhile ago.
Who says they didn't?
Everything in China explodes, even the sky.
Once must wonder: Did they consider going indoors?
And then one must wonder: If they did go indoors, would that even do any good in China?
"...and blowing over houses, killing a further 3."
Three people tried going indoors to hide from the hail. That didn't seem to do much good though.
Nope, they were smashed by the houses..hiding behind.
I'm happy I was not the only one who thought this.
Maybe the ones who died went indoors, only to blow up with the building.
Considering the building standards there, I suspect people may have been running outside for safety. ;)
Judging by how much you guys bitch about Chinese building quality, you'd think one of you would start a civil engineering company over there promising non-collapsing high ways and non-toppling apartments, so that you can reap the benefits of capitalism.
by benefits of capitalism, do you mena going flat broke. Because that's what will happen in China. Are there even legitimate businesses from China in China?
Yeah and get beaten up and thrown into a ditch to bleed to death by some thugs hired by the local property mafia
What makes you think the contractors you hire or the concrete and other materials you buy are going to be what you think they are?
All were driving at high speeds. These are innocent ppl and somebody's loved ones. Go kill yourself.
Don't know why you were upvoted, but anyway.
Did you ever think a lot of people might not have expected stones the size of chicken eggs to fall out of the sky before it was too late to "consider going indoors" and someone already had a hole in their skull?
Especially if someone's out in a field or something like that. I'm not sure a mother whose child had its head perforated by a surprise ice stone rain would agree that it is so fucking easy for everyone to simply "consider going indoors".
And what about traffic? Something like that raining down on a crowded highway, breaking everyone's windshields, do you seriously think all the cars going at xx mph are just going to be able to neatly come to a stop without any accidents?
You're a fucking idiot.
A hail storm featuring unusually large hailstones and lasting some 10 to 20 minutes also ensued, smashing roofs and windows, and killing at least 9 people, with 272 reporting injuries of one kind or another.

and lasting some 10 to 20 minutes
10 to 20 minutes
You're a fucking idiot.
It can take less that one minute to get your heard cracked open by one of those stones.
You're a fucking idiot.
/facepalm
I agree with Didier, you are a fucking moron anon.
China + explodes comment. It's the front page.
Er did you forget where you are? China bashing is like an instant ticket to upvotes here in Sankaku.
Life in China seems to be all a crapshoot these days. Go outside and die from falling hail, go inside and die from a house falling on you, sit on the toilet to take a good healthy ad have the toilet explode under you.
It almost makes you feel sorry for them, doesn't it?
One must wonder: How did Keeper manage to survive being this stupid.
That poor poor car :(
Signs of God but the worst are the tadpoles on Japan!
Must be because of Easter
They stay outside because they have to work.
Consider how much money some of them are making they can't afford to take a day off.
Ye, and I suppose they'd afford it better when they're dead from being killed by the hail? Lol, massive fail logic. I think it's more likely they stayed outside because, you know, most people don't expect hail that huge to suddenly fall from the sky, and by the time they realized it was probably too late. It only takes on of those things to kill you if it lands smack in your head.
Not exactly "fail logic". It's pretty simple to say they weren't thinking when you have enough money to last you for a week, month, year, etc., but when you have just enough to last you for "today" and you can only get more by going to work and tiring yourself out until you are half-dead, you can't really afford to take a day off, especially since that would make you "less reliable" and in China employee protection (from being fired "because 'because'", for example) is nigh-inexistent so taking one day off might be equivalent to taking a year off.
Damn, I'd hate to be killed by hail.
Have to admit it's a bit of an interesting way to go out, no? A bit different and unusual. :P
Not terribly interesting. Sucks for the family. :/
like a dead person would care what method took their life, lol
Oh are they beta-testing the live version of Angry Birds?
That might explain the 4500 pigs recently dumped into and recovered from a river near Shanghai...
