A recent middle school class photo circulating on Twitter has been causing a stir in Japan – though whether their faux outrage is due to concerns about their precocious antics or sheer envy is another matter…

Class picture? I bet they weren't all in the same class and they just got together for a picture. I refuse to believe there's a class of only 16 kids with a perfect ratio of male to female in Japan of all places.

Indeed. In Japan the classes are usually 30+ and even most of the Aomori and Hokkaido hillbillies commute to larger schools with at least 20 students or so per class. This is a 'school couples' picture' or some crazy such shit.
Coincidentally, my middle school class had 8 girls and 8 boys. We at best had two couples at a time, though, and i can't imagine having everyone conveniently coupled like that. I can't exclude it could happen in asia, however. They do seem like they enter their permanent heat season at an early age, especially nowadays.
