The latest object to menace China with an unexpected propensity to explode is the humble automatic condom dispensary.
Chinese media reports that a Jiangsu province condom vending machine installed outside a public lavatory suddenly exploded violently, sending fragments of metal and condoms flying.
A car’s windscreen was smashed by the shrapnel, but fortunately nobody was injured. The vending machine was completely destroyed.
The machine was operated by the local government, and their technical specialists have reassuringly explained that “there is no way a vending machine can explode.”
They are reassuring the condom buying public that this is the first time one of their 60 machines has exploded.

I can’t really see how a common vending machine can explode. Sounds like sabotage.
What?! Why?! Why do so many things explode in China!? Do they produce products with explosive materials?? What’s going on???
The only device that came close to exploding while I lived there was a circuit breaker that had an astringent, burning smell from the plastic that melted from the inside overheating…… *sigh* and I guess… my friend’s apartment almost burnt down because an outlet decided that, instead of providing electricity, it would be fun to burn the building down. He threw loads of salt on the fire and it was over. Which is a plus because if he hadn’t put out the fire the building would’ve probably burnt down with me in it (living on the other side). That building was the most poorly made building I’ve lived in yet.
In other news – Go China!!!! For constantly making me wonder how I ever lived 1 1/2yrs while everything around me rapidly crumbled and burnt down around me.
