Shining Ark “Tony’s Best Looking Game To Date”

Recently released PSP RPG Shining Ark has been attracting praise for the excessively high quality of its character designs and art (gameplay being another matter), with what look to be some of Tony’s most accomplished artwork to date – even if the PSP’s now pathetic hardware hardly seems to do them justice.
Interestingly, the game also looks to be one of the (if not the) first titles to be credited to Tony’s new design studio, Albion Works.
The game itself boasts the Shining series staples of Tony art and elaborate baking simulation, and so seems unlikely to disappoint existing fans at least:

That's his style. All the female character share very similar face structure, so it looks like he's just using one model, change up the hair, eyes, nose, lips, and skin tone. Then there you have it, a completely new character! Very similar to how MMORPG character creation design approaches as well.
what makes his style distinct is how he colours and shades; no one else does it quite like him. absent of those, i.e. with just a template body, it would be very hard to tell that it's his work.
same with characters from Navel as well.

Why would an American care if it gets licensed in eastern Slobania, or southern Armpitistan?

People are going to care if a game gets licensed to their region, not to every country on the planet. I'm not American, but this same stupid vitriolic response that comes up every time the US is mentioned is pathetic.

PSP is regionfree, you idiot. So releasing the game in the US means anyone can import an English copy and not worry about modchips, adapters, custom firmware, etc.
Also more obscure titles are licensed in the US than any other foreign market because the US has a larger number of English speaking gamers than other foreign markets. Gaming is a business & businesses only go where there is money to be made.
Anyway, this won't get licensed anywhere. With the next generation of handhelds in the wild, companies like xseed are already moving onto the next generation, because they need to see returns on their investment too.

We still need all the Shining series brought over. It fucking tanked because they brought it over and removed every bit of voice acting and never really advertised. I bought and played it and it was fun, just nobody knew what the fuck it was.

Suddenly i have this urge to look at shining force cover...
His style seems to be diversifying a bit; not that many cut&paste faces anymore. That is definitely a plus. So even someone at his level can still get better.
On another note, pathetic as the PSP's hardware might be by today's standards, those outline-less cell shaders look great. Low poly count aside, I doubt the shading itself could look much better even on a Quadro 6000.
I know that its his style, but I honestly don't really like how white and lightly coloured his characters are.
And I don't mean that they look like white people, I mean that the colour palette used for the characters are just so light. Sickeningly light.
Even the pirate girl in black has so much light colours on her. Its just not my thing, no matter how sexy she is or how magnificent their hats are...

The PSPs only real faults are the low resolution & motion blur. Beyond that, the PSP still looks good for it's age.
It's funny how the PSP graphically nips at the 3DSs heels after all these years..
