Toyota has announced they will actually launch their previously shown “Char Aznable” Gundam-themed Auris as a commercial vehicle in Japan, with general sales to commence in 2013.
Previously unveiled at CharaHobby as a novelty, Toyota says the car proved so popular with Gundam fans it decided to make a commercial product of it – and whether Gundam fans or not, few could deny it is a strikingly designed vehicle:
Given the record of Evangelion when it comes to cars, an Eva-themed vehicle seems more than a remote possibility.

i like the matte finish... its a bit different...
Stop fucking around and make a Zaku already.
I see.
Nissan make Gundam GT-Rs.
Toyota make Zaku Auris.
A bright future for Japan indeed.
They see me rollin'....they hatin'....
for god sake it's just stickers !
so you want a car that blows up whenever you hit the curb o.O
Build it to scale. The curb won't stand a chance.
But it would look more Badass. Not as Badass as a Gouf though! ;p
Last time I check, this was Japan and not China, therefore it won't blow up hitting the curb.
Dude, it's not a Leo Auris.
The Chinese'd buy 500k.
3x faster.
Normal Auris's top speed is around 200 km/h. 600 km/h in red one. Painting it red was surely the easiest way to make a fastest production car. I wonder why Bugatti haven't thought about it before.
3x more drivers caught for overspeeding.
Red is zippiest than dakka.
red wunz go fasta!!!
Cheap supercar.
Maybe not twice as fast but they could put the 2.4l engine in it and make it much faster then the one with the crappy 1.6 engine.
They should also make the model turbo charged.
Yes it might not be three times faster but with a turbo 2.4 it could literally be over twice as fast as the base 1.3l model.
Toyota has the right gimmicks but it's too big for the target audience: a young jap in the metro.
A car sized like that are unbelievably taxed and expensive to keep around. A proper size class for a young jap would be the Kei-class. Clear benefit of Kei-class cars is they're affordable and exempted from limits of owning regular sized cars.
It's not that big. I own a Corolla, which is the predecessor to the Auris and it's reasonably sized for young people. Maybe a little on the big side, but not unreasonably so.
Do you by any chance live in Japan? If you don't, have you seen the cars in here? They are TINY. "Regular size" cars are a rarity.
That said, I'm no sure if the target audience of this is by any means "young jap in the metro". I'd figure it's more of bit older generation, and probably at least away from Tokyo where a car is more like burden than convenience...
Just because cars in the U.S. are very big doesn't mean everything else is tiny. Well, by comparison, it is.
But by European standards, U.S. cars are oversized, and Japanese cars... probably a bit on the small side. But not tiny.
My first car was much larger and had a 5.7l V8.
And still is slower than any hot hatch with tiny 1.8l highrev 4-banger on the track :P
Sound it was only fast to crash in the first corner.
Kei class cars are expensive and in very high demand just because of there low fuel consumption and lower overall maintenance/tax's. you can buy a new-ish R34 for cheaper.
Its a 500 plate car. The taxes, tolls and fees are very reasonable. 300 plates on the other hand are expensive.
Well the car is bad-ass, but whats with the sloppy Char cosplay; his hat's not even on straight.
lol, thats the best costume and char they could find!?
shut up and take my money!!!!
ship it to europe. i want one
Why? In europe there's already VW Golf (in whatever generation) and Seat Leon/Ibiza.
You'd be better off tweaking/modding them a little...
its just not the same. i actually meant it to be a joke as nazi like words like zeon are not very appreciated here
Nice Matrix
It gets three times as many traffic tickets as a normal car.
Does it come with re-entry systems?
Can I drive 3 times as fast on the highway?
I'm a feddie... But I support this Car!
SIEG ZEON for whoever is able to buy this one~!
make a toyota GT-86 turbo char aznable edition. tht'll give you some street cred with otaku tuners
If it doesnt travel 3x faster than the regular brand then its just a fake mock up.
I wants!
I wanna this car *_*
Why, Japan, why do you hate America? Sell us a Gundam-themed car too!
GT-R nuff said. Still on waiting list here - AMS it to oblivion later.
where the laser beam come from?
Char's counterattack seems somewhat more... underwhelming than expected. Probably has good efficiency, though — and is easier to park. ( — ω —)
Red is 3 times better, everybody knows it. So, if normal Auris is "bigger inside than outside", this Auris will be like TARDIS?
that better be 3 times faster than the normal version.
Will it cost 3 times more?
This car will pick up lolis 3x faster than the normal Auris...
