Minami-ke Tadaima: “Finally, A 2nd Season!”

Whether they disagree as to the vexed question of whether baka-yarou anime Minami-ke is now in its 2nd or 4th season, few have disagreed with the general opinion that the latest series finally does the franchise justice again – some even going so far as to comment that “it’s so funny we don’t even need the ero!”

Okawari was garbage (black shaded background characters, Chiaki's weird gradient hair thing, and that annoying little neighbor kid (Fuyuki)). Okaeri was an improvement but quality and the feeling wasn't the same as the first. Tadaima is so refreshing, it feels like I'm watching the 1st season all over again with better character designs and the chibi segment. Tadaima is definitely the true second season.
I actually liked the faceless background character concept and thought it had the right ambience, too. And Fuyuki's got nothing on Chiaki in being annoying. There are much worse things to mention, but I understand this is the canon.
Chiaki's been looking cuter since Omatase, and in fact the fair-haired characters aren't prone to receiving that stunned-aging-anorexic-viewed-through-a-webcam face type anymore. It's a recent plague, the new Hayate and SeiNoIchi had it as well, despite being made by different studios.
With Minami-ke it originated much earlier and was probably a mistake (the manga itself can be quite shoddy at times), but it stuck, so Omatase Haruka still had it. Some of the brunettes retain it in a few shots, but at least the squints or walleyes are gone.

For me, the thing about the black/faceless background characters is that even though they are suppose to be background characters, by darkening them makes them more noticeable than the main characters, which defeats the purpose of a background character. I agree though that some scenes with blackened out bg characters help with the ambience, but the problem with that is mostly consistency. During night/dark scenes it works great, but what if it were a morning scene or bright afternoon scene? They would stick out like a sore thumb which goes back to my previous thought.
But I agree with you 100%, thank goodness that the squints or walleyes are gone.
fuyuki was never a manga character. my guess is the studio thought they should finish off the seasonal names so they threw in winter. hence half the second season was in wintertime.
MINAMI-KE already had "Winter". Touma Minami 南冬馬 is winter 冬. Anyway, "yuki" is snow, not the season.

It's not like Minami-ke never had the so-called ero, either.
Season 1 had that incredibly hot Haruka undressing scene and cleavage showing during Natsuki's visit. And Akira putting his face between Haruka's sweet titties. Also Haruka's breasts-centric beach episode.
Season 2 had the infamous onsen episode.
Don't remember anything ero from season 3.
Nothing can touch the old school Bible Black faces.

I enjoyed the first episode, but I'm not ready to rank it with the other seasons based on a single episode.
I was most amused by the fact that the opening theme song is almost a remake of the original theme song. The music during the M-I-N-A-M-I-K-E spelling portions of the song is practically identical. I can hear a difference, but only just. It's like comparing David Letterman's NBC theme to his CBS one. The third season theme was also trying to ape the original season theme, but MINAMI-KE TADAIMA's theme is much more blatant than even that. Not that I mind seeing the chibi versions of the classmates show up to shout exclamations between song lines just like in the first season OP.
I also liked Chiaki flat-out reciting the "please don't expect too much" disclaimer from the beginning of first season episodes right at the end of the new episode.

Opening is supposed to be inspired by season 1's, it looks like.
I really liked the part about glasses.
Overall, this season seems to be inferior to the first somewhat. 2nd and 3rd go out the window – the sisters weren't even different age there. Tadaima's do look different age, but not quite the family.

Based on what im hearing, i can finally get back into this show again.
I finished the 2nd seaon but at times it felt like such a chore to do.
Season 3... i stopped after the 3rd episode... It just didnt feel like Minami-ke.
Looking so forward to this show, can't wait to be reacquainted with the characters again.

In my honest opinion, season 3 was the best.
I know, blasphemy, but I liked it the most. I don't want to insult anyone, but it seems to me all those season 3 haters have based their opinions on whatever was posted on SanCon/2ch at the time.
I do agree that Season 2 was pretty awful, though.
I still like the first season the best, but I did enjoy MINAMI-KE OKAERI and thought it was a relative return-to-form. The Curry Fairy segment was right up there with the best moments of the first season (i.e. Chiaki the rain negotiator). MINAMI-KE OKAERI was hampered by the most uneven animation quality I think I've ever seen in an anime, but scenes animated by Asread's "A" team looked gorgeous, making the bad animation segments look even worse by comparison.

Its second because the animation is better than 2nd + 3rd season. And beacause of that they don't exist to some people.
Actually animation is worse in this one. I just dont get why people didnt like 2nd and 3rd seasons. This one is actually pretty medicore so far.
