I've been to Texas many times. If you aren't carrying a gun in Texas, you're underdressed. And likely also 300lbs, wearing spandex. Because there is no such thing as a 'happy medium' in Texas.
In Texas, you can keep a gun in your car without a license, so long as it's out of sight--can't leave it in the seat or on a rack in the rear window. Otherwise you can get a concealed carry license so you can take a weapon to places that do not specifically prohibit it, such as schools. Open carry is restricted as far as I am aware.
