Hm, I'm not sure about that. I've had massive overdoses of both kinds of anime so bad that I had to take breaks from watching more of it. Yes, it's possible to grow tired of the hardcore stuff. It goes all the way immediately and you've quickly seen everything there is. In this case the only possibility to raise the level are more extreme fetishes and you might end up with really freakish stuff that's not pretty to look at anymore.
If you're at this point, an anime which is suggestive, shows a lot of skin, but never gets really explicit can be very appealing.

Well, the difference between "ecchi" and "hentai" is only something that western anime fans made up.
Hentai is actually called ero anime in Japan, while ecchi is often used when people don't want to say the h-word. "Ecchi" can also be said instead of "sex", e.g. "Issho ni ecchi shiyo" means "Let's do it together" (But it's also the title of a very hot anime I can recommend. Especially the Akina episodes.)
