The newly revealed ensemble Lightning will be sporting for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (or what might otherwise be Final Fantasy XIII-3) has quickly become the subject of ridicule amongst Final Fantasy fans, and despair amongst Lightning lovers.
The new trailer accompanying it:
Online there has been a less than appreciative response to Lightning’s new look:
“Why can you see her pantsu?”
“This is awful… They should have kept the look from the first one.”
“What is she wearing…”
“How can she even move dressed like that?”
“I like Lightning but this is awful!”
“Even in fiction and fantasy a certain sense of reality is required…”
“Either make it easy to move or hard to move, just make up your mind.”
“And she looked so cool in her regular get up.”

Nice Sarcasm, especially from someone that names themselves after one of the most joke characters to grace Anime.
XIII/XIII-2 is probably a lot better than any RPG you consider not to be a joke.

There's nothing silly about disliking a bad game.
If you haven't played it, I really suggest you give it a shot rather than take on other peoples' perspectives. If you have, well... sorry it's not FF7? You can play that anytime you want.

I like it. It's nice looking and a good callback to her old design with the collar and such. This is tame compared to previous designs in FF though.
Anyways, I look forward to the game. 2013 is looking good.

Yeah. At first, I wasn't so sure, but over the past week it just kinda grew on me. It looks good in-game.
Maybe its just the breastplate for me, it just seems rather...out of place? Or maybe its all the black around the centre of the outfit. I'm not sure, it just feels strange.
I say, the corset look simply does not mesh with the Evil-Overlord Spaulders.
Probably because it looks empty? I can see what you mean. The problem is she looks more covered than before which makes it seem over-designed. There's also a body suit under, but it looks like the color of her skin.
Nomura shouldn't have tried to add different styles to the mix, but oh well.
It sort of looks like armor, but really is just the next worst thing to a plate bikini, a plate one-piece. Thighs, back, sides, under the arms, neck and face are all vulnerable. And what's that stuff holding on to the coverings for her legs? Basically clothespins, right?
From the back it looks like a trench coat, and lightning could pull off a trench coat. It was the height of fashion in the 20's, but I guess Lightning is an exhibitionist :3

I like it, too. Nothing to complain, except that she appeared and will appear again in bad games only.
I didn't play the first two, more than likely won't pick this up either.
They choose that outfit to have a visual more spectacular with parts of "flying clothes" (don't know if it's the good term in english) so it explains the look and that's pretty interesting to see her moving in game but the whole look is atrocious, what's with this part of aircraft on her, just pantsu no armor neither shorty. Like if they thought : "Hey let's take 2 rectangular pieces of cloth and fix it with 3 ring at the top of her leg it'll be ok".
The quicker square is bought by a serious company the better. Their leaders are messed up to keep a team who disappoint continuously their (now ex)fans.
Why do they keep trying to shove lightning down our throats. Every game she's ever been in has bombed. He needs to get this into his head that the public doesn't want to see FFXIII or lightning anymore. He needs to start with a new main character and not this played out one.
They aren't. The games she's been in outside of her own are ones you'd expect her to be in considering she's part of the Final Fantasy series; Dissidia, for example. And neither are you forced to buy the XIII games.
But I don't think you represent the public.
I'm so damn sick of Lightening. Thank god this will be the end of her stupid saga.

JRPGs need to stop with those overly exagerating clothing and weapons that looks like toys, the old jrpg classics were way more clean.

Ive played a lot, like ever since chronno trigger, FF6, phantasy star etc and its quite obvious that the overly exagerated clothing its something more recent.
From the recent jrpgs games, the ones i could say that have excelent character design are valkyria chronicles, shin megami tensei and xenoblade the rest is quite poor, I would mention that dark/demon souls have excelent design as well but its not exactly the classic style of jrpg.
I respectfully disagree, but I won't get into it since it's too long and I'll just say that, lol.
tl;dr: I don't really mind, it sets them apart from the norm. I thought VC had a very boring design, but it fit the setting.
Oh yeah I would also add the amazing Radiant Historia for the DS, one of the best recent jrpgs, fortunately Atlus know how to delivery good games of the genre.

@WEL: Me? Not exactly. I can pull out some images and tell you again and possibly look at what you played, but there's no point.
Radiant Historia was good but it could have been more... flexible. When a game uses time travel as its main plot device, one would think that a less linear story line would have been more suitable. Play time line A until you can't go further, ok time line B until I learn ability X, then back to A until I learn Y... that was used far too often. Perhaps I expect too much from a DS game :)
And WJPRGs need to stop of being star wars or LotR clones.

I dont mind this. She always was clothed, so this doesn't mean to much. Does it look better? She alwayss had a mystical feeling to the way she looks that makes her mysterous. In fact, kinda makes her look better, but she doesn't loiok much different from before.
But in all honesty, if we are complaining about the amount of cloths the girls have in this series, its kinda a waste. The girls have always been well clothed in this series, so its not to much a of a surprise.
