Chihayafuru an elegant display of industry, friendship, platonic love, and a touch of ancient Japanese history and culture. I can understand why it's not popular with the demographic SanCon attracts.

I liked the anime 'Hyouka' and the first season of Haruhi... past that K-ON had a nice ED(?) and that's how much I really watched of it.

Watching the show for economics
you might as well. The character designs are total fail compared to the (many) manga adaptions, and even the light novels. I doubt even Maou's ample cleavage will save this show in the visuals department, but thankfully, the concept of "Spice & Wolf as a classic RPG" proves interesting enough to get me watching.
Aside from sequels, I can't say many of the titles here that I've read synopses for sound terribly interesting...
If you watched, say, Bakemonogatari, try reading a synopsis for it.
