Butch Gen & Hanaharu’s Gargantia The Next Big Thing?

Newly unveiled anime project Gargantia: On The Verdurous Planet has been attracting plenty of attention, boasting as it does the writing talents of Nitroplus writer and Madoka creator Butch Gen, the sexy designs of celebrated ero-mangaka Naruko Hanaharu, and the obscure directorial talents of Kazuya Murata (whose admittedly rather less impressive portfolio includes directing an FMA movie).
Its official site just opened, helpfully showcasing its sexy character designs, and comments from Gen himself indicate it “was planned even before Psycho-Pass” and that it should see the light of day in the spring:
The action takes place on “Gargantia” – city ships:
Opinions online are divided as to whether it looks capable of turning into a latter day Gurren Lagann, or merely another generic mecha anime – or worse yet, another Fractale…

Good designs....although it doesn't seem like "the next big thing" but this wouldn't be the first time I was wrong. Anyway, since I loved Madoka I will give this a shot!

ill reserve judgement until a trailer is released but looking forward to w.e they make.

Trust me. It's script writter Gen Urobochi. HE did fate/zero and he did madoka. You know the plot is going to end up exceedingly dark and awesome.

You know what, The art of the characters doesn't mean SHIT to Urobuchi Gen. He will still give his signature story telling.
Naruko Hanaharu won't have anything to do with the story itself.
It's the director that we have to keep an eye out, although he has done plenty of "non fan-service" mechas, like Eureka, Code Geass, and Gundam Unicorn.
All I hear is:
"Omg poeple spend money for something I don't like, don't the hundreds of games and anime I pirated mean anything? They should produce things I want to steal and not something people actually spend their hard earned cash for!!"

Saya no Uta is some serious shit most people would avoid; although, despite the gorey story/setting it has a strange feeling of moe :D

Don't be fooled by the outside appearence. If Gen Urobuchi handle the story, that means it will blow your mind with his dark story-telling style.
Madoka is not necessarily a good example. A lot of people find it to be shit.

Really, though, most of the people that would bother to voice that 'opinion' only bother to because it's popular *and* quite well received by the vast majority of critics for its artistic and storytelling merits.
I don't know what you call "a lot" but a few dozen people certainly isn't any of the sort compared to the hundreds thousands if not millions who loved it.
Yeah right..... A lot of people (including you) find it to be shit, but much more than a lot of people like you find it this is good and revolutionary mahou shoujou style anime. (look at all anime rating website / forum)
Maybe you are some kids who expect Madoka become typical fluffy and cute loli mahou shoujou anime, but you disappointed when Mami is beheaded.

Yeah, sure. Typically magical girl animes show brutal death, people being tainted by emotional suffering so much they become magically infused berserkers that their former friends have to put down like a rabid animal. Then finish off by having the main character game the system of becoming a magical girl so hard she rewrites the laws of reality.

because they have 0 creativity, and they are no more than copycats, all thanks to the wonders of photoshop that has taught japanese artists the wanders of stealing other works instead of creating something original.
I like this. Somewhat similar to something I'm working on. Flooded Earth with floating mega cities. The ocean seems a bit empty. I wonder if they're doing anything special with the laws and government in the cities. Seems to be focusing more on logistics.
The way they make the main character arrive in the world "swallowed up into a distortion of time and space" sounds a bit too much like the easy way out to get the plot going, though...
