Microsoft @ Comiket 83 – “Now They Really Are Desperate!”

As if enough doubts had not already been raised in response to the profusion of moe mascots for Windows 8, now Microsoft is attending Comiket 83, begging attendees to drop by their booth with the enticing prospect of “being able to photograph a beautiful cosplayer,” along with the rather less enticing prospect of being able to paw a Windows 8 touch PC loaded with a moe theme.
Various other limited edition character goods (which for their sake hopefully includes more of the Claudia figures they promised) are expected besides, so Microsoft can at least expect to sell something at the booth.
As is so often the case with Microsoft, they actually appear to be copying Google – who were themselves at the summer Comiket desperately trying to push their also-ran social network onto otaku with the aid of pretty girls in nekomimi and spectacles, having apparently not grasped the fact they still lack an appealing 2D mascot:

We all know the golden rule to Windows versions. Every second one sucks. 7 was good, so 8 will be horrible.
They can actually update to perfection any OS, it's just that they want a way to sell those updates.
Don't give them any ideas. They'd love to sell you subscriptions in the World of Warcraft format.
Windows 7 Millennium Edition.
Wait, wasn't the golden rule that every version sucks?
98SE, ME, XP,7 are ok once you get to know them, vista,8,W2000 were/are devil spawn.
did you seriously just put ME into the "good windows" list?
ME was definitely good for a crash everyday.
ME was horrible in my memories. XP was far far far better.
you forgot the "zionist": Apple.
Problem with windows: You are playing for the beta. Wait till service pack 1 or something before considering buying.
@anon 09:19 "did you seriously just put ME into the "good windows" list?"
lol yes i used ME untill microsoft shutdown all updates for it THEN i moved to XP
personally i RARLY had problems with the ME system maybe a BSOD once every 6months, plus its better over xp dos support for older games was another best feature for me.
The "perfect": Every Ubuntu version after the LTS version
The "good": 3.11, 98, xp, 7.
The "average": 95, 2k
The "ugly": Vista
The "evil": ME
At least after my opinion. ^^
Funny how I preferred ME over 98 back then
I thought 8 was 7... just without the start menu. It's working out like that so far. Boot time is way faster, that's about it for me.
they suck for 3 or so years until most of the big errors been fixed
What are the odds of that?! 8D
Correct but not entirely... The first release always sucked then the Service Packs salvages what market share the initial OS has...
Every second or every first version? Win 2000-xp, win vista-win seven
And why is it that I find windows 8 good, then? I've heard a lot from haters about W8, but none of them actually used it.
imma wait for windows 9
same here...
it's going to be TEH STRONGEST WINDOWS EVER!!!
If you seriously believe ins something that unscientific you should rather believe in God...
Its awesome. Faster that windows 7 and who gives a f... about start menu ... I havent use it in vista and 7.
I care. I use it all the time
20:46 that is exactly how I use the start menu. Now I don't know how the run box or whatever appears if you press the windows key works, but the start menu enabled the closest matches to appear in a very Fitts and Steering law friendly way above the search box. Does the Win8 desktop have something like this?
Guess what, you're doing it the wrong way. The startmenu is deprecated starting with the introduction of search in the Vista startmenu. That's why the developers removed it, cause the average user does not use it anymore.
Goddamnit, hit the windows button and start typing your app, is that so hard?
I don't use shortcuts. Gets in the way of my sexy Miku wallpaper so yeah, I use the start menu.
Doesn't the start menu cover more...?
That's why you use keyboard shortcuts to launch apps...
Do you know about toolbars?
Put all your shortcuts in a folder then rightclick on your taskbar->toolbars->new toolbar. Chose the folder you put your shortcuts into. Congratulations, you have all your shortcuts just one click away from your taskbar.
That's what I do, cause I want to keep my desktop clean and I'm too lazy to type the name of the app in startmenu/startscreen
Wait... You never used the Start Menu?
How can it exactly be faster?
faster boot time, faster wake up time, faster load time etc, and handles lower quality hardware better than 7.
I agree, you only need the startmenu to quickly enter control panel and search.
You can search as quickly in the startscreen. Actually it's even wuicker, cause you just need to start typing no matter the focus.
All the administrative quicklinks are there when you rightclick the left bottom corner. No need to go to control panel for programs and features for example. So in this regard Win 8 is clearly better than Win7. And in most other things too. You just need to change your habit of having to click a startbutton.
But hey, things change and sometimes you just need to adapt to reap the benefits.
Why in the 21st century do we have to search for apps by typing in their names on our own machines?
There are also several apps to install a start menu. Do a quick search on Google and you'll see what I mean.
because start button + typing 3 or so letters + enter will instantly find and launch what your after without taking as long as manually searching through program list its faster than using voice control as well for 2 reasons 1 voice control has to "figure out" what you said then do it 2 saying start windows media player isn't as fast as typing start key + med then enter.
actually if you had tested Windows 8, and know some in depth info, it's better than 7, faster, uses less ram memory.
your right, but it still sucks. I cant help but feel its clearly designed for tablets. And I don't like it for desktop PCs.
I agree that the problem with Windows 8 for the PC is that obnoxious start window. Wish they would allow the option to turn that one off.
If the nay-sayers gave a spit of their attention span to read past the first paragraph of any Windows 8's online/ mag overviews (or just looked at the pictures), they'd -maybe- clock that the Tile layout is optional... it can look exactly like windows 7, Hell, Windows XP if you were that nostalgically stuck in your ways desktop-wise. The amount of people that whine on that 'Windows is always gonna be Windows', but in the same vein yelp 'Windows 8 is stupid because it's too different' is astounding.
If giant colourful grids of icons layed out like a big baby calculator is the best way for you to operate so's your head doesn't melt due to the complexity of right-clicking a mouse and being presented with... Christ be damned... OPTIONS, then you're a probably a Mac. And a probably a F*****g chimp.
It's also designed for desktop.
(the problem is that you're forced to view the Start Screen everytime you turn on the computer and the start screen you know before isn't like today)
Power is on the charm bar not on the start (weird huh? but you can download free start replacement aside from 5$ start 8 from star dock)
I have really warmed up to it.
it reeks of future DRM implementation...
That is a legit fear about it.
DRM is but a small part of it... the real problem is signed execution, meaning MSFT will have full control over what you can run on the hardware you own! emulation? gone! homebrew? gone! oh you want to make mods to your games? gone! fuck everything about windows 8
DRM,signed code, and a walled garden are things I will not tolerate on a general purpose computer because it would no longer be a general purpose computer it'll be just a media device.
I can barely stand having that shit on a phone and even find it annoying on video game consoles.
No, you are just an idiot who gives the rest of us Linux desktop users a bad image. Linux is not a valid migration platform for Windows users. There are tons of things which just cannot be done without Windows thanks to decades of near monopoly. Telling people to move when you don't know what they use their computers for makes you a major douche.
The fact that I got downvoted means you guys are just whiny tsundere bitches. Complaining but too afraid to make the big jump.
The software world is big. You always have a choice. If you have time to whine, use it to look for an alternative that fits you better.
lol guys just migrate to Linux instead of complaining. If you don't like it, why don't you just get the fuck out of the whole Microsoft Ecosystem? Problem solved, right?
Actually I have tested it and found it lacking.
The free test of the windows7 beta was fantastic, but after it went retail and using the bought retail soon as you go to windows update the windows7 was crap. Too many things to list in restrictions.
