Final Fantasy XIV’s ending has seen the ominous in-game events capped off with a snazzy cut scene, whilst anticipation for its rebirth as A Realm Reborn is growing with the release of alpha gameplay footage which is markedly more impressive than the original (though this is admittedly not saying much, else it would not need to be remade in the first place).

now to wait for the alpha to end... singed up for the ps3 beta @ GC
The alpha will never end...
Pretty, but that's the only thing that I can say about Square Enix games nowadays (except for Bravely Default that is also pretty AND good).
Anyway I'm really willing to give FFXIV:ARR a try.
BDFF's system was great, reverting back to the old FF job changing system and the social features are quite refreshing...
But I don't think I am the only one who feels the story is rather cookie cutter...
All ff stories since like ff6(ff3 us) have been cookie cutter pretty much.
That's the point... If Square Enix wants a second chance at the JRPG market, they need to do to their stories what they have done with BDFF's system, which is to take a leaf from their earlier works, and improve from there.
Well mostly cookie cutter. The FFXI stories were interesting with CoP being pretty damn good.
It's a shame they went just a touch too hardcore with it and were not forward thinking enough to build it for the PC and mod it for the PS2.
Pretty much all RPGs are cookie cutter. They follow the simple formula that something bad is happening in the world(examples someone is going to destroy it, a cataclysm is about to happen, simply war is tear apart the world, etc.) and a group of friends are forced into action to save the world. That is the general over arching story for most RPGs.
Its what happens on the way to saving the world that decides whether or not a RPG is good.
Don't care for the social features, but what where the last few RPGs that didn't have cookie cutter stories again?
The Kiseki series may use the same few main themes as most JRPGs, but they demonstrate good use of variations by playing around with those main themes.
@07:02 Have you played anything from the MegaTen series? If not, you're missing out.
Speaking of Megami Tensei, let's not forget Persona as well!
A few years ago Square-Enix produced NieR, which had an absolutely amazing story and nobody bought it.
lol at the date on the tombstone!
Looks like it was taken down within 24 hours after launch.
as usual graphis wise spare enix is one of the best. let's hope for a good gameplay
PFFF the game will suck anyway
Thats a freaking epic way to finish a game
So far i am already liking the bgm
Square should just make cut scenes/movies, which they are epic in doing.
That five minute finale was more than I ever hoped for from the game.
I have to admit, the video was surprisingly quite good with a lot of effort put into it.
Even kind of funny for the "Yay, the day is saved everything is.................oh fuck....." ending.
I just hope they learned their lesson and lesson well.
They can make an MMORPG that's fine but they are designing the game with a party in mind.
What Square-Enix should do is make you have a party too.
Similar of their games like FFXIII and such they should make you have a party like much. 1-5 extra characters is fine however in an dungeon or raid a party of one is fine.
Even by this song it's about the journey and characters you pick up yet Square ingores it, if they can't design a MMORPG for a solo game then they should quit WOW has really set up a new benchmark.
Dear Epic Old man, I shed manly tears for you!
YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!!!
Fly you fools! (Teleports the shit out of the survivors)
Nicolas Cage can be anyone, so he become an epic old man!
His name is (was) Louisoix D:
I loved the cut scene. Really epic and I must say Square is good in doing cut scenes.
Now they just need to relearn how to make games.
It's been a while since I've seen a cutscene with so much impact. Lately their cutscenes have been so flashy but never really had any substance.
That trailer is REALLY good.
Agreed, they'd totally obliterate the "animated movies are for kids" stereotype.
They already tried that with "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" a while ago, it didn't really work out for them...
Then they did Advent Children and it was good.
~~FUCK THAT WAS AWESOME ~~~~
Too bad we know what comes nexxt :(
triti
MMORPG sucks anyway.
FF14 sucks, DQ10 sucks and if namco bandai make a tales of MMORPG, will sucks too!
RPG >>>>>>>>>>>>> MMORPG
Still rpg whichever way you slice it. You're just so anti-social that you're afraid to find out that your elitism is misplaced and yes, you really aren't as good and smart a video game player as you believe yourself to be.
Neckbeard.

Neckbeard...
So a smart person like you reposted. Was the need for ".." so great?
For gameplay footage, there wasn't any gameplay, only a sightseeing tour.
omg.... that cg made wet.. awesome..
HNNNNGGGG!!! The feels... I played this game in Beta and at launch, it was gorgeous. I think I will play FF14 a Realm Reborn.
that theme song on character creation is
crushing my soul...
Sounds a lot like music from FFX
Someone want to explain what the story is meant to be behind that ending cinematic?
The long version:
The White Raven, one of the head honchos Garlean Empire's (the primary enemy that lives to the north of the people of the continent Eorzea) military was manipulated into calling down Dalamud, the second moon of Hydaelyn (the planet that XIV takes place on) in an effort to destroy the land, and he used his resources as a military leader to pull it off.
In response the players were forced to help encourage and reassemble the three "Grand Companies" of Eorzea - Eorzea's own military force - and get these groups to cooperate with each other in an effort to stop the Empire before it was too late to stop the "meteor". After a series of quests the Grand Companies form the Eorzean Alliance, and help the player defeat The White Raven, however their efforts were in vain as Dalamud is still plummeting toward the planet.
In a last ditch effort Loisoux (an archon, or physical manifestation of one The Twelve, the gods that Eorzenas pray to, and the old man in the cinematic) suggests that the player make a pilgrimage and pray to the 12 stones that represent The Twelve. Should the prayers be answered, then the archons will be able to use the power of The Twelve to stop Dalamud, the meteor.
Basically the last cinematic is showing the final confrontation between the Garlean Empire and the Eorzean Alliance. The three people on chocobos are the leaders of the Eorzean Alliance, and the old Elezen man is Loisoux, the archon. The meteor falls and Bahamut breaks out of it (and so it is revealed that the White Raven was manipulated by Bahamut into summining him back to Hydaelyn), Loisoux and the other archons attempt to use the power of the gods to reseal him, but he breaks free and fucks everything up. Once the seal fails, Loisoux teleports everyone away from harm, presumably to the future, however there are theories that we were returned to "The Mother Crystal" so that it can dream up a new Eorzea, however since we know that Bahamut is prsent in ARR, we can assume that we were sent to the future.
TLDR - Evil guy summons Bahamut, the good guys try to use the power of their gods to stop him, he fucks shit up anyway and they're sent 5 years into the future so that they won't die.
One bad guy in the game called the big meteor looking thing, that is actually a prison for Bahamut, after kicking the shit out of the bad guy the summon did not stop and the big prison meteor thing and shit got real, all the animals and mobs fled the place and higher level monsters took their place, things got so messed up, chocobo's were being summoned in towns.
The main protagonists of the game were off doing their own thing praying to gods and stuff and the armies were out for blood (because why not). Once everyone was organized for the final battle the main characters were their to reseal Bahamut but he cast, lv5 fuck yo' shit up, aka megaflare.
Old epic guy realized things were done so he teleported everyone to the future as a final resort.
TL;DR: 1.21 gigawats
Bahamut got pissed for paying for this game.
its what it appears on the tin: 'The end of the world" a failed last stand in which the only solution was to abandon that destined-to-die world and start anew, quite the analogy.
(on ARR)
i hope that square doesnt mess this chance, if anything they seem to have realized that they need to change, accepting that the merger was a failure and whatnot, but on HOW they change... only time will tell
DONT FAIL ME THIS TIME! LOOKS GOOD BRO!
Oh, nice looking cutscene, I just hope there won't be any singi... oh son of a bitch.
If only they would do the same with FFXI the world would be a better place.
...well except the "rebirth" part. FFXI needs to die. Permanently.
No. FFXI is superb. If the game isn't hurting you,why you would you want a fun game to cease to exist.Live and let live >.>
ffxi is 10 years old! TEN YEARS OLD! and theres still people playing this PS2-Graphics game MMORG, why? maybe its the story, maybe the gameplay, maybe they just like sufering...
[cerberus server ftw!]
Or....maybe you're retard.
Oh sorry damn autocorrect...
*retarded
