They are horrible because there is no license to use those figures. If they got permission to use them the owners would have enforced minimum quality standards, or even supplied their own.
The event organisers probably drew straws to see who does what, and none of them had any *good* art/model construction experience between them.
They don't make fun of them. They just... do not have the skill to make them "look good". They are chinese after all. They do not care how good the quality is.
