Disney has bought Lucasfilm and pledged to release a new Star Wars trilogy and then “release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years” forever after.
Disney purchased Lucasfilm, the company George Lucas propelled to greatness with the Star Wars franchise, from George Lucas for $4 billion in cash and Disney stock.
Disney has said the acquisition is largely intended to allow it to indefinitely churn out new Star Wars films:
The last Star Wars movie release was 2005’s Revenge of the Sith – and we believe there’s substantial pent up demand.
In 2015, we’re planning to release Star Wars Episode 7 – the first feature film under the “Disney-Lucasfilm” brand.
That will be followed by Episodes 8 and 9 – and our long term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years.
Lucas himself welcomes the prospect of endless continuations of his “trilogy” by Disney:
“For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next,” said George Lucas, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lucasfilm.
“It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime.
I’m confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come.
Disney’s reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products.”
He will continue to be involved with the franchise as a “creative consultant,” with the current Lucasfilm co-chairman taking over.

All I see coming out of this are films about young Padawan's having sleepovers with Ewoks while they are chaperoned by Jar Jar Binks.
Face it, Disney is about profit and the money is in getting parents to take their young kids to the same movie five or six times plus the BluRay's and all the toys.
THERE'S PROFIT TO BE HAD!
Didn't they already produce such a movie? Could have sworn...
You may have meant that as a joke but regardless... there are several Ewok-themed movies out there. Just google for Ewok Adventure and Battle for Endor. There might be more, but I'm out of eye bleach.
Calling it now: Darth Vader Platinum + Match in KH3 Coliseum XD
I don't think that way, for I liked the Avengers, and they were made by Marvel, who is a subsidiary of Disney.
And now the sith shall explain their master plan through singing and dancing.
Let's not get started with the Jedi Academy, shall we? Oh god, the padawan musical.
Well, Star Wars can only be glorious again without Lucas.
Sorry to say but i think the old trilogy was only successful in spite of Lucas and not because of him. Episode 1-3 were horrible hack jobs because Lucas had completely free reign.
I can wait to see daffy duck, mickey mouse, elmer fuld, bugs bunny all wielding light sabers and the force. Yah I know some were warner brothers but every thing is one big package now..
Exactly as i thought when i did read these news!
Facts buddy~ the mouse had NO HAND in the making of 'The Avengers'. Which was planned YEARS before the takeover. The film itself was in pre-production before the takeover, Filmed before the takeover and Released before the takeovers' bloody claws sinked in. Proof? Watch the flipping end credits.

like pixar, you will see the results in a few years to come.. maybe earlier.
It. Will. Come.
Just like the movie The Avengers, you might've seen it. Big Disney movie that came out recently. Featuring the Disney owned Marvel characters Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Hawkeye, Captain America, Black Widdow, etc. etc.
Um,look at your facts, buddy. While the Avengers movie was announced in 2006 by Marvel president Avi Arad, pre-production didn't start until 2010, after Disney acquired Marvel in mid-2009. Whedon wasn't even announced as the director until July 2010 - almost a year after the acquisition announcement.
The only thing set before the Disney acquisition was the casting, which would use the already signed cast of characters, and the distribution rights which belonged to Paramount, and who announced in August 2010 that they would cooperate with Disney in producing and financing the film.
Filming then began in February 2011, already more than a full year after Disney's acquiring of Marvel.
So before you spout off and talk out of your ass again, check you facts and maybe you won't come off like a fucking moron.
It'll be like Kingdom Hearts only with Star Wars instead of Final Fantasy XD
bugs bunny isn't owned by warner? or does disney owns warner too?

Learn2Read before stating the obvious Reply. It's not like I want to make you stupid, OK?! @*#&
Do not want...
Can't be worse then the Prequels.
It can ALWAYS get worse.
With disney at the helm you can rest assured that IT WILL get worse
*looks at The Avengers* Well, I disagree with you, old chap.
Yeah, The Avengers sucked, right?
Think Jar-Jar meets Pirates of the Caribbean part 2/3.
Ya it could be really really bad.
@04:41 Those films were fucking horrible.
Pirates of the Caribbean part 2/3 were good movies though. Another great movie: The Avengers. Disney owns that too. So stop whining.
IDK that CG Clone Wars movie was shit. So much that I'm amazed the CG series has done as well as it has.
You would think so but it is Disney and they will be aiming at a new(young)market...to me that means more jarjar and ewoks, i would like to see them take inspiration from the multitude of books but i doubt they will

disneys' cancer is slow, but inevitable. Pixar always said that their projects took 3~4 year before release except for cash grabs like toy story 2, so expect the mouses talons in less then two years from this posting to be felt. The Goofy movie (first one) was done far from the mouse so it came out pretty well.. but the sequel~ urgh. When the "Seven" died, there was no person with the talent or want to make better animation shows or movies and the drought of the '60s~'80s was a sad point. pixar now will fall b/c of the speed of the interlube and society and the mouses' inability to change. Remember how apple fell apart to ruin when they booted out Jobs? They smipered backed to him and found great success and MONEY because of JUST HIM. Now he's Dead and the deterioration of that company is assured too. Read the synopsis of the book "Atlas Shrugged" & you'll get where it's all going.
All of mentioned movies above where planned YEARS before the mouse rolled in.
Disney also owns a porn studio - not everything they do is aimed at the "young" market. What gives me hope here is that Lucas won't be the one in total control of things. The first three movies were better than the prequels specifically because on the first three, there were people in place who were allowed to tell Lucas "No."
Mustic force i will admit is a guilty pleasure. Dino Thunder was nice if only because Jason David Frank came back and i liked SPD by and large. But the others? Not so much.
Much of the expanded universe is complete and utter crap contradicting itself. Star Wars should've stayed at 3 movies.
@20:32 Seriously?! I've always though that Marvel appealed to man-children...
Disney has a good track record:
Disney acquired Miramax, went on to make Pulp Fiction.
Disney acquired Pixar, went on to make Wall-E and Up.
Disney acquired Marvell, went on to make The Avengers.
And none of those movies were aimed at a young(er) audience due to Disney's influence.
Compare the Disney-era Power Ranger series(other than RPM) to the Saban-era ones.
That's just generalization because "Disney is a kid friendly company". Hey, But look at Marvel Entertainment. Disney didn't instantly make it a kid pandering company.
What about "between-quels"
"Splinter in the Minds Eye" would make a GREAT return to form classic story featuring Han, Leia, Vader, Chewie and um, ah, you know that other bloke.
Completely, with in the episode IV and V pre-WTF envelope.
The technical term for "between-quel" is "interquel". Though I wouldn't blame anyone for not knowing this because they're practically nonexistent.
I want it so much. Honestly I hate old people like you, still living in the past and refusing to accept change/something new.
It's not that we don't accept something new, it's that we've seen what happens when people use creative license to justify a movie. The Star Wars prequels were dull nonsensical rubbish. They somehow managed to turn the epithany of bad-assery (Darth Vader) into a whiney snot-nosed brat who's basically evil for the sake of being evil, yet presented it in a way that's supposed to somehow make you feel sorry for him.
Yoda with a lightsaber was it's only saving grace, and it was short-lived.
agreed, vader's character planning sucked. he should be like jack bauer in 24 except evil. anyone who lived and survived through the hard knocks life wouldn't turn out to be an emo whiner, but cold, and very very calculating. that's because they simply wont survive being a whiner. to build a character like vader, you need to basically drag him through hell and then back, via the king maker process. show that every time he upholds the ideals of a jedi, he ends up take physical and emotional damage. that somehow, even though he wields enormous power, he was literally trying to go against fate while battling inner demons. the setting needs to be a whole lot darker. because it needs to show living up to the expectation of being a hero is not all fun and games, but a tragic and spiraling downward dive into the darkness of a personal hell.
Sorry that Plinkett went over your head, Anon 21:54. I've heard those that enjoyed Jar Jar stepping in feces and lil' orphan Annie are a bit "special".
Cartoon network clone wars was a pretty good example of what should've been in the 3rd movie, instead of shorts bridging the gap, either way the darkness of that didn't seem to carry forward into the 3rd movie, hence it completely destroys the buildup of the first two movies aka ep 1 and 2
19:52: Errrr... check out the reviews by RedLetterMedia. He explains it in excruciating detail for morons like you.
I never read any Star Wars comic or novel. Mind to explain how should Darth Vader be in your opinion? For a non-hardcore fan, I'm just curious.
Lucas should never have Vader be made into some mythic figure. He was not written as one in either of the first two (IV, V) movies.
Also from start to finish the whole Anikan -> Vader story in the first 3 movies made absolutely no sense.
Really Episode IV and V were great, VI lost it because of Lucas selling out with the Ewoks, and the prequels were just poorly written and directed.
a) RLM could have done just the same thing with the other films. Or with just about any film; it's easy. Just take a few clips, and whine some complaints without ever going in-depth or doing any real literary criticism.
b) Anyone who cites RLM for anything, whether it be to try to make a point, as a guide to taste or sense, or anything else, is on a whole new level of stupid which the word ‘moron’ would understate by a six thousand fathoms.
@9:13 With a comment like that, it's obvious you didn't get the first film because you weren't paying attention.
Anyway, I've recently watched all six over a two-evening sort-of marathon and there is no objective reason why the new ones would be worse than old ones. Just maybe we were younger when we watched the old ones and hence not as critical. But even now I still think that the series' boons outweigh its flaws.
Hence I welcome the idea of more instalments. And there is so much more material to work with, like expanded universe stuff, that it need not suffer from sequelitis.
Oh~... No~...
Help us Leon!!!!
`Whatever you do, don't let the Jews get the place. `
You guys do know walt really did say that.
Walt like Henry Ford and Thomas Watson founder of I
BM really thought Hitler was the cats ass back in the day. He especially liked how he crushed unions and "Jewish Communist" agitators.
So basically, they're going to retcon away the entire Extended Universe? Godammit, I wanted to see Mara Jade T_T
And Jaina Solo...
Dream on suckers! They aint be doing no throw away paper backs! They be ARTissTS who don't wallow in the dung troughs of those wet dream cash grabs! Retcons?! REmakes?!!?! F-bomb you all1!!!!
itllbee NUUUUU freshess works of them tru drem makers!!!
....
the remakes will be after the new trilogy is done and will be retcons on those ONLY!
Everybody thinks of the Thrawn series as episodes 7-9 anyways. They're going to have to pull a Star Trek and make some weird alternate timeline shit if they don't want to infringe on the Thrawn story.
Or they could just keep expanding the Old Republic universe backwards, or by making some particular length of time more detailed...imagine the number line with the integers clearly separated from one another... if you can divide the space between them infinitely, then is the space between 0 and 1 "more infinite", i.e. bigger than the length of the whole line(that is infinite too)? A dude called Cantor went insane thinking about this not too long ago. Star Wars fans will follow suit.
Well, that's exactly what they're planning to do though:

God I hope they do. The EU is for the most part a badly written fanfic.
Only really got bad when the New Jedi Order came along. Before that all the books were pretty self-contained, so you could sort the good from the bad...
