Hi there. Series with music by any one of: Yoko Kanno, Yuki Kajiura, or JAM Project would like to disagree with you. Because Macross 7 has NONE of them.
It clearly says background music - by the looks of it I'd say it generally excludes anything with lyrics. Frontier (and Macross in general) has an absolutely epic soundtrack, but I reckon most of it counts as insert songs.
Probably the same reason K-ON wasn't on the list. I wouldn't consider it tops anyway, but I reckon its huge fanbase would've put it on the list if it weren't excluded automatically.
