I guess Yu-Gi-Oh is on 24 because noone even bothered to watch the first episode.
It doesn't help that Yu-Gi-Oh! is too difficult of an anime to decide if you should continue watching after the 1st episode of a new season.
Even with all the censors, I'd still rather watch To Love-Ru Darkness than the new Hayate.
They should change the name to Hayate no Gotoku! Oh My God I Can't My Eyes Off You, Someone Help Me!!

sir, i think the problem in Hayate is the graphic quality.
the season 2 quality is better than now.
And for the To Love-Ru Darkness, it has problem with its censorship. i think it makes the interest of this anime becomes lower than its manga.
"Hayate no Gotoku! Can't Take My Eyes Off You" is so bad that you might try singing it on how bad this anime is!

Very simple answer: clicks.
You see an article for a new figure, and say, "Neat!" or "Cute!", but really, how much do you need to click on the article itself? The main picture is all you need to see. The simple knowledge of its existance is enough for you to track it down if you want to buy it.
You see a depressing news story out of China, or the latest police incident from Japan, etc. That's a high-cost click for the user since it's usually a long (though interesting) story that is likely to be depressing and annoying. Plus the lead-in paragraph tells you most of what you need to know. Maybe you'll check out the details later, or maybe not.
A list, on the other hand, is a low-cost click (the list itself is a fairly minor effort to peruse) on an article that doesn't provide any detail from the main page (thus, no value from the headline, all value from the article itself; on the other end of the scale from the others mentioned above). Plus, the user comments are usually more amusing, and you have to click through for those.
Thus you have an article where the greatest amount of 'content' is after you click through, while at the same time being very low-cost, mentally, for the user reading, so obviously that type of story provides more click-throughs than most other types of story. Click-throughs are how the site measure the 'value' of the story, leading to more stories of the same type.
The user, of course, finds the greatest value in other things, but the list stories are like popcorn -- you can always munch on some while waiting for the stuff you're really interested in. Thus you have a high proportion of the readership clicking through on those stories simply because they don't have anything better to do.
Unfortunately for the reader, your click on the interesting, insightful story is worth exactly as much as your click on the popcorn fluff piece, while the cost to the site is significantly higher for the interesting story than the fluff piece, and there are fewer individuals interested in each such additional story. A site that follows the dollar like Reeces Pieces will therefore always trend towards the 'nothing' articles that are gradually putting the newspapers out of business.

I didn't even watch the first ep. Checked Sancon, saw all the censors, didn't bother.
When i seen the first ep of To Love Ru Darkness when it was leaked i told you all to drop it and DOWNLOAD the BDs in retaliation of there betrayal it seams like i was right to think that :P
