Yuru Yuri > Marimite? I honestly don't get it.
Says the guy who likes both.
I am a hardcore yuri fanboy and I have enjoyed those two different yuri anime.
Honestly, how come this list miss some of the recent shows like Black Rock Shooter, Symphogear, Natsuiro Kiseki, Mouretsu Pirates, and Lagrange?
Black rock shooter should've been there, all the characters were too much yuri towards every other
Ika Musume definitely should, I haven't seen Pretty Cure so I dunno.
Smile PreCure, the latest PreCure, is sadly not as yurilicious as either Suite or Heartcatch. I am currently watching those three right now. And yes, Bee Train's "Girls With Guns" trilogy has truckloads of yuri subtext. Noir, Madlax, and El Cazador are definitely worth trying.
Yep, Black Rock shooter, there is only one girl who doesn't have a crush on another girl.
I think the latest Pretty Cure might qualify. I'm gonna watch it.
And if subtext is good enough for you I'll recommend. Kaleidostar, Read or Die OVA/TV, Noir, El Cazador de la Bruja.
I wonder if Pretty Cure and Ika Musume can be considered as yuri-texty titles. Not full yuri titles, just two anime with yuri-texts all over the place.
Just because a female character expresses love to another female character in an anime, it doesn't make it a yuri anime...
How was BRS yuri?
Symphogear? Huh?
He's talking about the main heroine and her "best friend" :P
no this is correct. yuru yuri is the best.
Yuru Yuri is more blatant. Subtlety is under-appreciated.
Subtlety =/= actual lesbians...
as far as i remember, there was only one lesbian character in the show, and a few side characters. none of the main cast.
Not seeing it doesn't mean it isn't there.
@ Aneko
...do I have to quote Samuel L Jackson for this one?
That's actually what I thought made Yuru Yuri so fun and excellent, that there was a very wonderful blend of over-the-top obsession and fascination that could be interpreted as lesbianism, but never really felt like it. It was more like an exaggerated version of those scenes in anime where the school superstar walks down the path and all the girls are going "Oh it's her!" "She's so cool!"
Some of these make me question whether I've come to misunderstand the definition of Yuri though if some these are considered. I didn't consider Madoka really yuri at all in terms of the relationship. Their relationship is much, MUCH more like a unit of soldiers in the front lines that have formed a 'brotherhood' (sisterhood just sounded foolish in that context). You fight for those who have fought for you as if your life depends on it, especially if you saw what Homura saw. In fact I think it would have soured the entire relationship and story if it had gone into full yuri elements.
Sakurako x Himawari singeghandedly overpowers anything Marimite can dish out.
Nothing can overpower the power of Marimite.
long live prower of "gokigenyo"
ごきげんよう
I was expecting REAL yuri animes, not a list of animes with shoujo-ai hints...
Let us know when you find some. Not counting hentai.
Strawberry panic is one
Rokudaime, I wasn't clear. The poster didn't count anything on this list, so I'd like to know what he would consider "real yuri".
@Aneko
Ah, right. In that case, good point.
As is Kannazuki no Miko and Sasameki Koto. Aneko, your Yuri knowledge is lacking if you don't know of any real Yuri shows that aren't hentai. ;-)
Yeah, but if the 26 eps only 13 count, that was the point when the studio ended without money and everything became stills.
What do you mean? All the girls where quite obviously gay for the whole time. And 50% of the complete show would still be a lot, enough to qualify.
Kuttsukiboshi. 2-episode OVA series. Awesome stuff. Go watch it now people!
Bump for Kuttsukiboshi.
Baka Test? So it must have at least one lesbian character to qualify?
Hideyoshi is Hideyoshi.
That qualifies.
Well, there is 1 girl that likes Minami, but it's one sided, and treated as a joke.
Not exactly what you'd call "quality yuri anime"
As usual, this list is a mixture of currently popular moe stuff and things that are actually relevant. Simoun, Kannazuki no Miko, Utena, Strawberry Panic, Aoi Hana, and Sasameki Koto are yuri classics with real female/female romance. Then there are "trick" shows like Kashimashi and Maria Holic, where although it presents a facade of yuri, you can't really take it seriously. Then there are the moe fluff shows
As for Marimite, it does have one lesbian character, and the anime blatantly and intentionally played up the yuri angle. I'm not surprised it scored so high here; in its time, Marimite managed to cement itself in Japanese minds as the quintessential yuri anime.
The real question is, where's Sailor Moon? Haruka/Michiru forever.
nope even the writer of marimite claim she didnt write yuri/shoujo ai light novel.
basicaly most of series up there are award winning with good plot. with the poll of normal otaku. not some freak hardcore yuri fansboy
A little surprised not to see My-Hime or My-Otome in here. I'd say Shizuru X Natsuki is far more fleshed out than say Madoka X Homura, heck I'd even put Yukino X Haruka over Madoka X Homura.
Well, in my oppinion Yuri-subtext stuff shouldn't even be on this list, and so Mai-HiME, like several of the shows that are actually on this list, shouldn't be there, but as far as Yuri-subtext goes, Mai-HiME is defenitely better than some of the other "Not real Yuri" shows on this list.
kannazuki no miko top 1!!!!
No Nanoha. Those amnesiac otakus are allredy befriended!
More like Japanese fans aren't deluding themselves like the Western ones are.
And no one mentions Kuttsukiboshi... I think I'll log out now.
^This. Pretty major fail indeed. Kuttsukiboshi should defenitely be on this list!
Yuru Yuri first one the list? List redeemed.
Though 1-15 should just be "Yuru Yuri"
WTFFFFFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHERE IS CANDY BOY ???????????????????
I'm just glad Kannazuki no Miko and Simoun are still remembered at all.
the most 2 legend anime. even they forgot the sad touching EXACTLY yuri "I.C.E" world where only women lives.
look like OAV or OVA didnt get count. like candy boy ikkutsusi maybe long forgotten anime without big impact on it.
and no one remember "yami to boshi no tabibito"
Strawberry Panic! <3
Many good candidates on this list, but also many that should not even be there, as they aren't actual Yuri shows, but Yuri-subtext. Also, I'm shocked at the lack of Kuttsukiboshi..In addition, two hentai-yuri shows (which obviously don't belong on this list since they're hentai) that I find really good, and which I feel needs honorable mention, are "Shoujo Sect" (3 OVA's), and "Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o" (Best ever! 1 OVA). Go watch those in addition to the ones on this list people! :D Sono Hanabira and Kuttsukiboshi are the cream of all Yuri out there imo! :D
>Kuttsukiboshi
The show where one of the supposed lesbians is fucking her brother? Yeah no.
Did you actually watch the show? -_-
