Square Enix’s efforts to resurrect Final Fantasy XIV with its Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn relaunch and PS3 port continue to secure it much praise, with many now willing to concede that the game – graphically at least – shows some rather impressive improvements.
The latest screens, showing impressive graphics and sundry improvements to the UI:
The changes are so drastic that Square Enix is actually wiping all servers (preserving existing characters only) and stopping new registrations until the game’s release (which will include yet another round of free subscriptions), so the “2.0” is probably not an overstatement, although whether it will be possible to recover the anticipation which followed the original remains to be seen.
Concept art reveals some interesting locations, and the fact that the horsebirds now get interesting hats:

Failing game? Give things hats!
Touhou agrees, hats are awesome.
Team Fortress 2 agrees too.
Fabulous is not necessarily gay.

That skeleton pirate was classy as fuck man.
Did anyone notice the Gay skeleton pirate?
put a chocobo on it

Chocobos have armor and job classes too!
You all got it wrong, all characters will be Chocobos.
Does it make you or your Chocobo a scrub if it fails to heal? I want to know who to blame when I die from lack of a good healer.
You can teach your Chocobo skills too!

Or Horsebirds! >.>

Looks like the influence of Valve is already infiltrating Japan.
That wouldn't be a bad thing.
It would be strange if no Japanese game ever manages to get their 3rd version again.
I seriously hope this game is free-to-play.
after how much they fucked up the last time, they really need to make a huge gesture to bring people back
No they wont ever and if the games fail they would just shut it down
The game was free to play for a year.
The game has been good enough since late 2010 to start paying for. It's been well worth my money.
lol ff14 good lolololol good joke
TERA looked awesome as well, but at the end of the day the game sucked.
What TERA needs is more content.
Once you hit 60 there's not a lot of stuff to do.
Thank your publishers who keep yanking content out the game every-time something new comes in and not fixing things that should have been fixed months ago.
yeah leveling in tera was fun the first time through but once i hit level cap redueing dungeons over and over again to upgrade stuff was a yawn. Also the crafting in it was a complete joke and doing another character was repetative despite the different combat style. I like the bam content and all but, because of how often you get the quests dealing with em, they somehow lose their appeal and its a pain to find people to do em with but even more of a pain to solo em unless your a zerker.
The combat, visuals and lolis are its strong point but their appeal eventually goes away because of the repeatative design, poor end game, and unengaging story. well the elin appeal still remains but im not about to pay monthly for em.
Guild Wars 2 wins.
GW2 has the same problem, once you hit 80 there's nothing to do.
maybe you should explore more in gw2. gw2 is not created for 5 years only for dungeons and risen. 1st of all personal story, dungeon story, explorable dungeons for armors, weapons, etc. killing the dragon champions, structured pvp, world vs world(3 servers pvp), 30+ kinds of jumping puzzles, crafting food etc. for legendary items and killing zhaitan.. and 4 more elder dragons to go. and world completion i love to explore the world because the art of gw2 were outstanding than other mmorpg even though theyre still using dx9.
for me gw2 is the best and the most kick ass mmorpg right now
kirito(SAO)
Levels are just numbers. In this world, strength is just an illusion. There are more important things.
You can go anywhere you want in this world with a single blade. This may be a virtual world, but I feel more alive here than in the real world.
GW2's a great exploration game but a terrible RPG.
Hitting the same two attacks over and over and calling it a rotation doesn't make combat very compelling. And the "dynamic" events are more repetitive than classic quest systems ever were.
Would've liked it more if I didn't need to grind just to reach the next place to explore or start the next jump puzzle.
thing that supposed to be the new-gen mmo always fail to keep people playing after hitting level cap.
as for GW 2 i'm tired of killing risen, i do like killing zombies but this is too much. Exploring dungeons also somewhat pointless it doesn't have any huge impact in character development.
I'm certain FF IV will hit the same obstacle
That sounds an awful lot like every new MMO to hit the market in the past... what is it now, six years?
I wonder when MMOs will stop trying to simply chase that mythical "good endgame" and give us more things to do on top of mere "raiding and PvP"?
Like what? Hosting a radio show? Organising a public school? Running a maid cafe?
Even though MMO's have improved over the years even the latest MMO's still run into the same problems as they did 10+ years ago.
Guild Wars 2 is a great example and shows us how MMO's have improved over the years. It's no longer one big grind fest and there is a lot to do in the game. But - like any other mmo - once you hit the level cap and explored everything you're pretty much done.
All that is left then are two 3 things:
1) PvP
2) Social interaction (clan / alliance)
3) Collecting good gear
Those three points are linked.
The best gear can usually only be found in the hardest dungeons and from raidbosses.
In order to do those effectively (or even at all) you need an good clan.
And a lot of people enjoy being in a clan but at the same time everyone will want to just step back and enjoy playing solo.
But at that point you usually already done most of the exploring and solo quests in the game so at this point most people will start making alt characters and that will keep them entertained for a bit but even so most of them will never reach the same level as their mains.
In my opinion that is where the problem is with all mmo's right now and I believe the solution is in improving the imersion of the game.
Many MMO's look amazing but don't immerse you to the point you just want to be in the game for the sake of its beauty.
But I believe we are on the edge of breaking trough this barrier and once the Oculus Rift becomes available to the public we will see a very long awaited change in the way games are played.
If you're not yet aware of the Oculus Rift you should check out:
http://oculusvr.com/
Once technologie like that becomes widely available and afordeble (early developers version is only 300$!) we finally be able to experience gaming on a completely new level.
Nah, Tera is actually pretty good. The combat system is obviously the best part, though.
It just could have been better, since it lacks story narrative and end-game.
Still, the ride to level 60 is pretty fun when you play for the combat.
It lacks story and narrative because things keep getting censored and change for the "best interests of the west".
In other words TERA will always hold itself back, because you have people holding back the game.
for example, they changed the pora elinu plot to a frivillus dispute over what animal to put on a flag. Originally, it was a dispute over leadership between the two princesses. The one trying to userp the other kinda deal.
Just wait for Blade and Soul to come out. Then Tera won't be the "newest action MMO" on the market anymore.
Blade and Soul will probably play just like Guild Wars 2. And once you hit level cap, you'll be complaining about the same thing again. It'll be the same with all other MMORPGs that'll come out in the future.
Yeah, a NC Soft developed game. That'll end well, like it always does.
TERA is pretty good although only PvE wise because the combat system is broken in PvP.
Tera needs major improvement to its servers and more end game contents that do not involve grinding for weeks for measly gear. I too enjoyed the ride to 60 and then quit right away.
Yeah, we know Japanese can do great graphics. What about the game? The graphics were never the problem.
The graphics were one of the problems. Not in terms of quality but in terms of quantity. The landscape repeated itself forever. A single scenery looked great, but the same scenery repeated a hundred of times bores to death.
I'm more curious if the gameplay equals the looks.
'best looking' is not enough
gameplay, monsters and story-lore that's more important
Graphics....were never the problem...
Just like a woman.....................it can look pretty but it can still be a raving b**tch on the inside.
if this is be best looking mmorpg then blade and soul is what? god like?
Blade and Soul doesn't look better than this....
