Another Saturday where /a/ will be flooded with SAO threads, MAL will be flooded with haters and fanboys in the discussions and it's going to be the top topic until the next Monday.

I seriously can't get to a conclusion if this is a show making my dreams real or just hell itself.

I am kind of glad they actually did the LN Chronologically for the Anime.

The LNs are AMAZING, Following them and all I can say is I cannot wait for a Second Season GGO FTW!!

To all hates of SAO, you mad bro cause you ain't getting Asuna. Oh and those who keep saying this is .hack needs to go shoot themselves, the two are very different in multiple aspects.

    Comment by Anonymous

Agreed GGO is awesome lol. I really hope there is a second season that covers the phantom bullet volumes

the anime will cover the full Phantom Bullet Arc
but will stop before alicisation so my guess is some sidestories and then gungale
and hopefully a movie or OVA series to cover alicisation next year

One thing that I've noticed from the fandom of SAO is that they love pointing to people that are mad at the story that they won't get Asuna/because Asuna isn't virgin and other shit like these.

Come on, nobody like this projection of ideal woman from the author outside of the fandom, she is just too Mary Sue to be fun.

The fandom of SAO is quite big enough though, and your opinion is just that, your opinion, which at the end of the day means nothing to anybody but yourself.

Therefore despite your finding Asuna too perfect to your tastes, a lot of people find her a good character and their opinions weight far more than yours.

And to argue against your last point most people like the projection of ideal people. That is why there are so many epic heroes of demigod proportions in popular literature, so many male fans of harem comedies where lots of beautiful girls suddenly decide to get a crush on a common guy, and so many female fans of Shojos novels where legions of rich, handsome, and lovesick guys compete for a plain girl.

The mundane you see everyday, and therefore most people like to fantasize about the exceptional.

You don't seem to understand what a mary sue IS. See, a GOOD character is both someone that is both enjoyable to watch and maintains some realism. A Mary Sue is a perfect character, lacks flaws and the world just seems to revolve around her (OR HIM!!!!) They don't move the plot, the plot just moves for them.

And by all that is good and decent, does the WHOLE idea of SOA just throw realism out the window. And not in the over-the-top so-out-there-it's-awesome way, but in the how-in-the-holy-fuck-can-that-possibly-happen.

    Comment by Anonymous
    16:37 24/09/2012 # ! Neutral (0)

I do understand what a Mary Sue is. I just don't like the classification. It is a hate term like many others that has no meaning outside the hateful crowd (usually of feminazis) that likes to use it.

What YOU think is a good character is your personal opinion and other people are under no obligation to agree with you.

Talking about "realism" there is a hell lot more realism, despite your tastes, in a character that fits almost flawlessly in the idea of an ideal girl, accordingly to some people, because this idea is highly subjective anyway, than in a character that has the strength of 10 men, or the ability to fly or teleport on his own.

And realism is irrelevant in fiction anyways. I am quite capable of enjoying non realistic fiction and many times I even prefer it, as I am sure happens with many many people, rest assured.

Why limit yourself to what is real when fiction allows you so much more?

Because willing suspension of disbelief can only go so far before you have to point out that Kirito is far to 'uhmaaazzzing' and his character isn't a character so much as just a cutout for the plot to move for, as well as everyone taking all of this in stride when atleast some characters should be having a breakdown.

the only reason why this got too famous cos SAO have focus on romance genre while .hack series dont have it but in fighting sequence .hack still more better. SAO vs .hack PVP surely SAO is gonna lose TEAM SAO vs Kite and Haseo will wipe them out.

All of you guys comparing SAO to .hack (Especially .hack//sign) are forgetting one very important point.

.hack//sign was about the mystery surrounding Tsubasa. The .hack series as a whole are based on quirks and bugs within the game, but don't necessarily have to do with ONLY the game. Those of you who call .hack "boring" probably couldn't sit there and appreciate the flow of the story without any action going on. It's a mystery and a drama more than an action series.

SAO is definitely a drama, but it's got a lot more action than .hack//sign ever did. .hack//roots had a lot of action, but the story wasn't nearly as good as sign, imo. SAO seems to encompass a lot than "just action" or "just mystery" and has a lot more to do with human psychology than many of you can probably understand. While it's not the most accurate in regards to psychology (And to be quite frank, I believe .hack nails the psychology aspect better in general than SAO), it deals with parts of it that most people, author included, probably haven't experienced; true life-or-death scenarios. Those of us who have been in these situations can at least appreciate the effort put in.

Now, I must say I love both the .hack franchise and I now love SAO as well. Both SAO and .hack//sign are in my personal top 5 anime of all time list (And I use the term "anime" loosely here, since I have read the novels of SAO, and am basing my decision on those in hopes the anime delivers) and while I can understand all of the comparison between the two franchises, the blatant ignorance portrayed by a good number of you would be shocking were this any place but SanCom.

SAO and .hack are completely different entities even though they share a similar setting, that being an MMORPG, so before you start comparing the two keep that in mind.

And if anyone actually reads this, I think i'd be more shocked at that than I was at the aforementioned blatant ignorance.

In no way was it a good idea to keep all the side stories. It just disturbs the flow of the story and gives it a harem appearance when it really isn't. The Yui story was kinda unavoidable as she is a plot device in the next arc, but all the others? Useless. We could have been at this point of the story 5 weeks ago.

Then when will you actually slip in Lizbeth and Silica before the 2nd Arc?

    -OVA? Ridiculous
-After the main story of the first Arc? Non LN readers will scream, "wheres my main story".
-Right in the middle chronologically correct? on LN readers will scream, "wheres my main story".
    See what I did there?
-Finally, Ignore their side stories. Non LN readers will scream "Who the fuck is she?"

    Got any bright ideas?

You don't put them in in the first place. I liked the first novel especially because it didn't degrade itself into a boring harem that the following novels did. If they simply didn't put in Lisbeth, Silica...and even Lyfa who is going to pop up eventually, I feel like they would be able to flesh out Asuna and Kirito's character more, far past what was shown in the Light novels.

Characterization is the weakest point of the author of SAO and accel world. The anime would have been better had they tried to fix this part by slicing out the unnecessary characters rather than introduce girls that don't last more than 1 or 2 episodes.

Honestly, Lisbeth and Silica don't even show up in the elf arc. They're totally pointless.

Of course, given how things are going, they're probably aiming to extend the SAO anime into Gun Gale Alicization, etc and honestly the later Light Novels are really quite bad compared to the first 4.

No Lyfa? Are you retarded? What the hell is wrong with you? She's the second most important individual in the 2nd arc, without her, there might as well BE no second arc.

You've just destroyed your entire credibility by saying that, how can someone who thinks they know so much about how SAO should honestly believe Lyfa isn't needed?

Without Lizbeth & Silica, SAO would be dull with only Kirito, Asuna & Klein :( Those two gives you different feelings and color when they show up.

The anime gives me a different feeling. As of episode 12, I'm positive the light novels give off more details, but then again this happens with most anime. I think the side stories destroyed part of the amazing feeling it gave off. The anime adaption just doesn't do it justice in my opinion.

There's plenty of light novels that are better than all the generic crap published in the world.

    Comment by Anonymous

No, they are actually the same as those romance novels written by hambeasts and published just cause, or worse yet, self-help books.

Come back when LNs have a well-written classic worth reading instead of generic anime crap with vapid storytelling and shallow characters, which sums up all of them.

And no, the fact they have animu drawings doesn't make them good, unlike these authors (and apparently their target demographic) believe.

Literature is overrated anyway. Given the choice between a fantasy story and some shitty literature about a boring guy in a midlife crisis who whines at everything and then dies, I know what I pick. Art is defined by a bunch of senile old men who love everything that is melodramatically angsty anyway, so who are they to tell us what is good and what isn't?

That said, SAO is still rather meh. Do they really expect me to care about the death of some girl that we met one episode ago? Pacing, dudes, pacing! It's important.
