Chinese Mobs “Mistakenly Burn Down” Samsung Factory

chinese-mobs-attack-foreign-things-001.jpg

China’s rampaging anti-Japanese mobs have further humiliated their nation in the eyes of the civilised world by “mistakenly” burning down a Samsung factory located in China, apparently having confused South Korea’s leading electronics company for a Japanese one.

The incident joins a variety of similar attacks where rioters have been confused by property bearing logos which are similar to those of major Japanese brands, or in some cases where it apparently simply looked enticingly valuable.

The similarities between the insignia of Mitsubishi and that of Mercedes-Benz proved too much for one such eager Chinese patriot, who ended up unintentionally stealing the wrong hood ornament from an evil foreign car and showing off the spoils online:

chinese-mobs-attack-foreign-things-002.jpg

However, there has also been some doubt as to whether the mobs may simply have hated Korea as well as Japan (some surveys have indicated Korea is as least as unpopular in China as Japan), or whether they are indeed simply compromised of mindless xenophobes who hate all that is not Chinese.

Chinese mobs did at least get one industrial target right – a Panasonic factory has had to close after suffering extensive arson at the hands of Chinese attackers, putting plenty of unpatriotic Chinese workers out of work for the immediate future.

Regarding all the harm caused by anti-Japanese rioters, the Chinese foreign minister has just issued a statement, unsurprisingly blaming the victims: “Japan must take full responsibility for all the damage.”

With further diplomatic mastery of the sort only China can muster, their commerce minister had just finished telling a Guangdong trade expo that he is concerned about crucial foreign investment in China dropping off due to poor economic conditions, and that only Japanese companies have been continuing to invest heavily.

He stressed the need to encourage further foreign investment, presumably hoping to at least replace that which his countrymen have just burned down.

Really? But he's right. They WILL repair their own factories with their own money. The alternative is constructing a completely new one in Japan (or S. Korea in that case), paying japanese wages etc. China's market is too big to pull out and the wages too low to produce elsewhere (not to mention all the difficulties trying to get stuff INTO China).

If it's about money the chinese will always find a way to screw you.

There are other cheap countries with plenty of labour available, especially in Asia. Cheap labour and minimal legal restrictions only go so far in attracting business if there's always the danger of a sudden shutdown hanging in the background. A manufacturing plant is expensive and it needs to be running precisely as scheduled to generate profit.

That's true, but China is the most populace country in the world with 1.3 billion people in it which makes it an excellent market even with all the shitty conditions. Additionally for a country as close as Japan the proximity makes it far more ideal than attempting to set up in the South Americas or Africa, especially since the infrastructure is already there in China.

If you look at the numbers, loss of Japanese investors/Chinese consumers are a large net loss for Japan, not China, which enjoyed a boon to domestic brands.

Japanese tourism sector was hit especially hard, 25% of their tourism revenue comes from Chinese (although far fewer than 25% visitors, Chinese tourists seem to be spending more than westerners or domestic Japanese on vacation), and it dried up overnight. The tourism sector losses alone made any mob damage a drop in an ocean in comparison of monetary value.

Tourism sector is just an example, it's insignificant in dollar value compared to many other sectors such as consumer electronics and auto.

More money is lost every second by Japan on the floors of the stock exchange than all of the mob damage in China. The Japanese business community is already putting pressure on Japanese government. But you won't know if your only source of news is Artefact.

rather then spending on potential future losses, it would be better to bail out and set somewhere. This is because future losses wont stop at a fix amount but will grow in the future while a setup cost is a one time cost and the rest are manufacturing overheads and operation cost.

I am praying that my desired potential future has at least some reality to it, and that this will cause a massive push in Japan to bring factories and such home and cause them to revamp their perceptions necessarily to recognize the need for a strong foundation at home, much like us in the US are slowly doing at a steady pace.

This could be a major incidental push that's necessary to get the Japanese to reboot their economy. An action won't do anything, but a unilateral change in perception can change everything almost over night. Causing their country to pull together and decide that they need to be something more than what they've been is a powerful push. It happened on 9/11 for us, if the Chinese do enough damage to Japanese interests in their country in their wondrous stupidity, it could be very interesting.

Although in that irony, if the Chinese keep 'missing' their targets, it'll end up merely being a general facepalm with some prices going up and the Chinese fucking themselves over.

Where was this profit cut? Seriously, I would like you to show me where we benefitted in terms of oil.

Because we didn't. You assume we did, right? But it never happened. The majority of Iraqi oil still goes to Europe and Asia--we're actually getting about the same from them now as we did before.

They went out to war and brought back shit and nothing, and that sums up American foreign policy nicely. It doesn't matter if they bring war or billions in economic aid, all they get is the status-quo.

    Comment by Anonymous

lol actually before invading Iraq we got oil for less because a sanctioned Iraq could only trade goods for oil and smuggle outside of the country, then sell it on the gray market.

Now the price for crude has gone up significantly because the UN sanctioning is no longer in effect. So the fact that you think Americans benefited from "liberating" Iraq proves that you're an idiot.

No, I wasn't making 9/11 into something glorious, but the shallow and stupid among our population needed something to galvanize them into doing something. Anything.

Few people do anything greater than themselves unless they have a great leader or a great tragedy that affects them in some way, and affects ENOUGH people in some way that they do something. 9/11 was also very nicely wrapped up for us in a target we could understand, which of course backfired when all the XBOX-trained military went over. Thankfully they adapted relatively quickly, but basically large single events can turn the tide of a culture, but I didn't say it'd reverse it. I'm talking a small percentage of perception that has influence in the long run, like the 'health movement' which idiots thought was a fad, and smart people realized was a revolution in getting the shit out of our western diets through science. It's still changing how we think about food and the fast food restaurants have actually done the free-market reaction and added menu items to accommodate. When the big ones react so permanently, it's a large shift.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Japan
    Population aged 0–14: 13.2
    Population aged 15–64: 63.7
    Population aged 65+ (%): 23.1

So right now, 23% of their population has gone into the retire age! As more and more of the 50+ people get retire in the next 10-20 years, they are going to have a hard time filling that and support their economy.

With their declining birth rate, the large percentage of retired people and their xenophobic attitude towards foreign immigrants, their are going to be in trouble.

unfortunately this is the older generation of chinese people. They cant even stand people in their own country that doesn't speak their language. My dad is part of that generation and he hates anyone that doesn't speak his language.

    >I love every nation in the world,
Dude... the world doesn't need more hippies like you.

    >but it seems like they just can't get along
    Oh... DUH!
Of course they don't simply 'get along'. Because every freaking country has it's own interest in mind, you fool! That is why Europeans fought for thousands of years against each other. Most of the time about territories. That's just how things are. It is part of evolution in it's own sense.
Globalization has intertwined our interests in many ways though. But economy and wealth is not everything. Wealth has made the Europeans lazy and decadent. THEY will pay dearly for this in the near future, believe me.

Yes. It may seem like both Japanese and Chinese will get hurt through this conflict. And you hear newspapers all the time blabbering about it. These riots may be way too much, but the basic idea behind it will be healthy for both societies.

In the long run, either China will win, or a third party will handle the ressources and share them between all parties.

Nothing healthy comes from petty squabbles and racism based stupidity or I should say nothing productive or progressive. These two countries have so much bad blood between them that they are never going to get over it.

The only healthy thing that could ever come from it is if the world gets so fed up with the ignorant asses that they round them all up and gas them (this includes all politicians and public officials in both countries). then we could put the younger generation in charge and not have to worry about this crap.

    Their government's just confused.

Look back at last year when the Arab Spring was in full force. Everywhere you could look in China at the time, there were secret police everywhere, and many foreign journalists got their equipment confiscated. My point?

YOU CAN'T START A RIOT IN CHINA UNLESS THE GOVERNMENT WILLS IT. We're talking about a bunch of people who have no problem watching someone getting run over by a tank if it means it can stop a change in government.

Undoubtedly they're trying to send a message to Japan by letting this happen. All I'm seeing though is just a bunch of maniacs losing sight of their goals and just giving in to lust for carnage.

@22:51 Lol there are tons of American/local made products that are even more fragile and cheaply made. In the end it depends on the quality the manufacturer wants/decides to give you.

Very many 'High Quality' American made Motors, Bushings and Bearings we install end up defective/lemons. For example we get very many USA made pump motors than are complete lemons or just shatter from the inside within a month if not right when the warranty expires. In other words almost NOTHING is made the way it used to be. And why would they, they make money from you buying another of their product(s) so why in the hell would they want to give you something that can last a proper life cycle. (Ex. Almost all Older brand/model pumps we've installed made from around the 1980s have lasted 30 years and rising while anything we've installed made from 2000-Present is pretty much rated to last you 2-5 years; if not by warranty expiration.

It would be a problem if western brands are targeted. Japanese investments in China are actually already minimal.

    - even if they haven't, others have (and you know, with XXI century's plurality, the better cassus belli you have, the more allies you have)
    - americans are quite pacifist (they need some time to prepare good cassus belli, maybe next WTC?)
    - china is industrial power
    - china have too many people (it would be hard to kill them all)
    - there are may countries which would like to stab USA in back once it's involved in serious conflict
