i mean like...who doesnt want to see magical girls in cute frilly dresses being deceived and beating the crap out of one another right?
This list is just stupid, the majority of the animé listed tells a great story with likeable characters, that's what is needed to hook audiences up. This list is like saying you can't believe you were into a great movie for having an enthralling plot acted by good actors. The whole point lays there.
Something tells me that they don't remember the plot.
It's more that the initial expectations was not the same as the experience.
I mean Madoka as an example:
without knowing what happened in episode 3, most people I know just thought that it would be a another lame Mahou shoujo anime.
So, this list is for animes that most people that it was going to flunk but on the contrary it was grea.
Until episode 3 ? you need to rewatch this, seriously... the mandatory dream intro, madoka's house, the school and its "hamster cages" , the by-the-book mascot rescue in an overly creepy place, etc... Everything in conjunction just shouts : "this is NOT going to end well".
As if "late night airing" wasn't enough of a clue ;)
with the name Gen Urobuchi as the writer, everybody should have remembered by kikokugai and saya no uta what to expect.
"another lame Mahou shoujo anime?" Maybe because it looked bad, but being mahou shoujo doesn't automatically make it lame.
@caiooa: most of the people who laud Madoka don't know who Gen Urobuchi is and would laugh at the prospect of watching something from 2003, or playing a visual novel.
Your tune will change over time. Watch some more anime, and you'll see. You can't hide behind rose-colored glasses forever.
Can't say Im ashamed either, but Guilty Crown...after that horrible ending I can't believe I got into that series

Hah! I remember these kids. This is Megacon, at the Orlando Convention Center. At least 7 years ago. Kid in the middle still looks like that (Saw him at an Atlanta Convention last month), but girl on the right turned into a total hottie.
9. Ore no Imouto
Only thing I liked in the series was Kuroneko. Would've dropped it immediately otherwise. Only did the anime though.

I still like this one actually, but I'm only thinking of the anime.
Other than that, that list is mostly crap I've never bothered to watch in the first place. Only other ones I've even seen are:

Code Geass was good till the mechs started to fly. Then it turned to shit, and I wasn't a fan of the ending.

Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan is funny in its own way. I force myself into it, got past the gore side and I have few some laugh.

That's probably it. They where so caught up with cute characters that they never figured out what the plot was if there even was one. The second something cuter comes along they start acting like they're old girlfriends. "Oh honey, I don't know what I ever saw in her! Your the only one for me!" That kind of stupidity.

No problem.
I watched the entire series, and I can tell you that Lucky Star is sadly pretty shitty. Why did I watch it, you say? Because I was young and impressionable. With hindsight, it's quite shitty. But you'd never know that until you watch it, what with the opinion-proof safety bubble that it's in.

I don't know anybody who's ashamed that they were into Madoka. I've readily admitted that fact many times, in fact I'll do it again here. I liked Madoka Magica. A lot.
I am, now that I watched a few more anime and realized that it's quite shallow and derivative. I'm not willing to write it off, because it's still entertaining, but it's hardly the profound epic that I once thought it was. That's the power of popularity.
Now that the SHOCK has worn off people are starting to see it for what it really is, and I can see why it's on this list since so many people are sick of it now.
